Am I at risk? (cunnilingus and rubbing with my condition)
« on: February 01, 2010, 10:37:48 pm »
Dear Andy and Ann,

I performed oral sex (cunnilingus) on a woman (HIV status unknown sex worker). Before the performing, I was asked to wash my mouth with gargle/mouthwash to sterilize germs, flu, etc. Will the gargle kill the good protein and whatever the effective protection you mention in saliva from HIV transmission? I have few cavity.

I performed fingering inside her. I also rubbed my penis on her private area so top and side of the penis were touching her private (some juice). Before the rubbing we washed our private areas and bodies with soap. My concern is that by washing, destroyed the healthy bacteria in the mucosal lining of the vagina and penis and eliminated natural lubrication. I am also uncircumcised.  I performed fingering inside her private.

I did not have any intercourse.

After 11 days, I had night cough (for a week) and white tongue (about 3 days).

Please advise the risk of HIV transmission.

Thank you,

Haru,

Nothing you did or had done to you was a risk for hiv infection.

Going down on a woman is not a risk for hiv infection, regardless of the use of mouthwash.

Frottage (rubbing genitals together without penetration) is not a risk for hiv infection no matter if you washed or not.

Fingering is not a risk for hiv infection.

If you feel unwell, see a doctor. Whatever is going on has nothing to do with hiv.

Ann,

I appreciate for your quick response. Even I am uncircumcised (skin peels when erected), I do not have any risk, uncircumcised person is riskier than circumcised person?

This act was happened oversea (Japan). The sex workers are required to wash mouth and private areas (on her and customers) with antibacterial soap and mouthwash/gargle.

My understanding is that as long as I use condom (correct way) for intercourse/penetration, other oral sex and frottage are considered as no risk acts and no need for HIV test. Am I directing myself in correct way?

Thank you,

As long as you always use a condom for vaginal and anal intercourse it won't matter that you are not circumcised. Condoms provide very effective protection.

Neither cunnilingus nor frottage are risks for HIV transmission. So yes, you are correct and there is no need for HIV testing in relation to those activities.

haru,

Being uncircumcised will only put you at greater risk for hiv if you are the insertive partner in unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse. It makes no difference when getting a blowjob, or during frottage or protected intercourse.

And yes, all you need to do to protect yourself against hiv infection is to make sure condoms are being used correctly and consistently during anal or vaginal intercourse. Read through all three condoms and lube links in my signature line so you can use them with confidence. It really is that simple!

Andy, Ann,

My apologies. One more question.

Is it safe to say that I can have unprotected sex with my wife since this incident was only mistake act that I made in my 10 years of marriage? We have tested before our marriage and are negative.

The antibacterial soap and gargle/mouthwash that they use contain Povidone-iodine. For mouthwash, they mix it with water and gargle.

Thank you,

Yes, based on what you have reported of your concerns, you can have unprotected intercourse with your wife without fear of HIV being a risk.

Get on with your life. Period.

Haru,

Twice now you have applied for additional accounts here. Not only have you agreed to NOT do that three times when you agreed to our Terms of Membership, but it is also listed as one of our posting guidelines:

When you created an account with the AIDSmeds Forums, you agreed to have only one account. Starting multiple accounts is against the rules of the Forum and will cause you to be banned from our forums.

To add to that, I also sent you a rejection email when you tried for a new account the first time yesterday. I would have thought you'd take the hint, but no, you decided to try again last night. You have had enough chances to read the Terms of Membership before you agreed to them and also to read our posting guidelines.

We take the creation of additional accounts very seriously here, so I'm permanently banning you for not abiding by our rules.
