Messed up on Marketplace - No insurance for meds...now what?
« on: March 08, 2018, 09:16:49 pm »
Hi all...Brand new here but hoping to find some answers for my significant other.  Until mid-2017, he was unemployed and on Medicaid.  He received medical care and meds from a local Infectious Disease office and loved the practice.  He was on Triumeq and his viral load was undetectable.  In June, he started a new job and Medicaid went away.  No insurance offered under the new employer.  By September he was self-employed.  His supply of Triumeq ran out around the same time.  When the Marketplace opened for enrollment, he enrolled and found insurance that would cover the Triumeq.  Unfortunately, he missed the first payment and was promptly denied coverage.  It was a misunderstanding and oversight on his part but now here we are in March and he is still without insurance, doesn't qualify for Medicaid and he's been without care and meds for months.  He cannot afford out of pocket cost (who can?) but aren't sure what other options are available.  Any thoughts?  (Side note...his previous Dr retired in November and since then, the office hasn't provided any help or direction for us)

Thank you in advance!

y'all should try to contact a local ASO (aids service org) with case managers or a FHQC (federally qualified health center). A case manager should be able to help connect your partner connect to care and meds. A FHQC should be able to connect you also, or offer services on a sliding fee scale

what state do y'all live in? That might help someone give you more local, appropriate info

Thank you leatherman...We are in Michigan.  I appreciate your comment and the links and will look into both.

Thanks again!
