Question about CD-4 and VL

Hi everyone, 

I tested HIV+ on February 27th of this year.  I had gotten tested just 6 months prior and was negative, so the infection was definitely recent.  I went to the doctor a few days after finding out and by blood tests revealed a CD-4 count of 584 and a very high VL of 146k.    My hope is to hold off on starting meds as long as possible (until i hit 500).   My questions are the following:

1.  The CD-4 count is so close to 500 so soon after infection.  Is this a sign that my CD-4 count is going to go down very fast?
2.  Does the VL being so high also mean the CD-4 number will go faster?

Thanks for any help!  Just a little nervous here.  I know there is no exact science answer and everyone is different, but just looking for some guidance.

The relationship between CD4 and VL is not very straightforward. And every person is different.
When I was first diagnosed (like you, only a few months after seroconversion) my VL was below 100. Despite of that my CD4 was only 370. 3 Months later the CD4 recovered to 650 and the VL was still very low, around 300.

It's normal for the values to jump. You need more data points to get an idea about the long term trend. Anything else is just speculation...

I m in a similar situation, diagnosticked very soon after infection I think, in may 2011...

My first VL was 170k and cd4 were 505, 6 months after that my CDs were 714 and VL 80K...

For sure high VL generate me fear and makes me a little worried...  Anyway, soon or late you ll have to go on med, so being worried for that is not so justified...

There is no rule definitively, every one reacts different.

The most important is you cd4 are great, by the way you have to get another blood result in a few month because a single set is very little to know exactly how you are...

also keep in mind that new treatment guidlines just came out that reccomend treatment for all HIV infected people, regarless of cd4 count.
