Sex with a stranger, help.
« on: September 24, 2020, 08:45:25 pm »
I am concerned and worried about my situation. I am on prep, I’ve been taking descovy for two weeks and I was having protected sex with a man, but at the end of the intercourse I wrongly inserted my penis three or four times without a condom. I don’t know why I did that, I always use condoms no matter what. I guess it was the heat of the moment, but now I am paranoid and stressed out. Can you help me figure out my risk? Thank you.

Hiya,

Read your post, in was a short short possible exposure and as you were the insertive partner it would be less risky than being the receiving partner as an example.

You are also taking discover PrEP, it's highly effective at preventing HIV, after a week it would start to provide protection, although, optimum levels can take slightly longer.

Given the PrEP, if this incident was your only risk, I see no great reason for concern. As part of the PrEP routine, you should ideally be testing ever 3 months, continue to test when due.

Here's what you need to know to avoid HIV infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions. Contuine taking PrEP as an additional layer of HIV protection.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also, note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

Kind regards

Jim
