Title: Expired Condom (Just To Make Sure!)
Post by: Rhino on October 09, 2008, 09:29:08 pm
Hello Again

I've read through some of the archived questions regards this but I just wanted to be very certain. After having vaginal intercourse with my lady friend I noticed that the condom was expired. It didn't not break or come off at any time. I did use lube (not sure if that's important).

You guys strongly advise against using expired condoms, but I take that's because they carry a high risk of breakage and not because HIV can bypass them in some way. HIV would only be a concern IF breakage occurs, which is not a subtle even. Am I correct? Would you advise me to get tested?

Thanks

The condom didn't fail so you lucked out. You didn't have a risk. Next time look before you use.

Just as a ps, you would have known if the condom had failed. When a condom fails, people worry that it might have had a teensy weensie hole or something like that. That's not how it happens. When it fails the condom ends up looking like a fringed hula hoop on your penis. So believe me, you would have known it.

As Rod suggested, check beforehand that it's within the time limit for use.
Title: Blood Exposure - Just To Confirm.
Post by: Rhino on May 30, 2010, 04:51:09 pm
Hey guys.

I noticed quite a bit of blood on the end of my condom, the young lady said she had just finished having her period but was still "spotting" a bit. ( Would have been great if she had told me that beforehand. )

I used a condom correctly throughout and it did not break or slip off at any point. The blood does not change the fact that I had not exposure right?

I know its not what you guys are focused on here, but does blood exposure increase risk for other STDs? Herpes specifically?

Thanks
Rhino

Please follow our rule and keep all AM I INFECTED questions in this same thread where I have your latest and previous.

The condom did the job. You were not at risk for HIV because she was menstruating. Condoms provide very effective protection.

Any opinion on the last part of my question?

The likelihood is you were protected overall. But we advise anyone who is sexually active to regularly have a full STD panel done. That means at least annually and every six months is even better. Other STDs are much easier to acquire than HIV.
