Title: Ladies Thread Part 51..Ditching the Old and Bringing in the New....
Post by: Queen Tokelove on December 17, 2008, 02:55:12 am
It's not quite New Year's yet but I dread Christmas so no mushy Christmas title.... :D Also, the last thread has gotten quite long so I took it upon myself to start another. I did wait for someone to jump in though.

I ended up breaking it off with Sexy, not going to rehash the details but you can check out my blog if you're interested. I feel like it was the right thing to do though my heart once again feels broken. I feel like I have this big stamp on my forehead that says "rebound girl" or "standby". It sucks but then this too shall pass. Not to worry, I am not on the verge of a breakdown, just confused and hurt.

Damn, I forgot, I did mention the details in the last thread. Well, it saves you from having to read my blog, this time.... ;D

My sweet ladies,

It's been a long time and I have missed you all very much.  I have been reading and keeping up with everyone.  I won't begin to address everyone personally for fear that this post will get excessively long and I'm sure to miss someone unintentionally.

Suffice it to say that we've been very busy.  Yesterday was our #2's 9th birthday - hitting double digits next year and I'm just not ready for it.

Last week Mini was at the doctor's office 3 times.  On Monday she was diagnosed with pneumonia and strep.  Her O2 saturation was 84%, her respirations were high, and her temp was 104.9.  Her body was struggling to get the oxygen she needed.  She was put on zythromax, phenegren, and breathing treatments 6x/day.  We went back on Wednesday for a follow-up.  Her saturation was up to 98% and her respirations were down to nearly normal.  On Thursday afternoon, she was in tears saying that her ears hurt.  We thought that it was from sinus pressure so we put sweet oil in her ear and gave her ibuprofin.  Friday, after being up all night with her crying, we went back in.  She was then diagnosed with a bulging ear infection, and another strep.  She's now on 3200mg of amoxil / day, lots of yogurt, and breathing treatments 2x/day for 2wks (1wk left).

Weather here has been fierce.  Monday it was 64 (way above normal) and raining, yesterday it was 32 and snowing, and today it's 47 and raining.  My sinuses have been killing me and little noses have run through 11 boxes of kleenex in less than a week.

The natives are getting restless - a sure sign that it's time for breakfast.  I can't promise when I'll post again, but know that I have not missed, nor will I miss,  one word that anyone has posted.  I wish you all much peace this holiday season.  I know that for some it's a very rough time.

Thank you, Ann, for reasons that you know. :-*

I love each of you dearly.

Mum
*edited because BT reminded me that I used a name I shouldn't have.

Morning ladies,

Camms! (she's in the last thread toward the end)  I can't believe it!  How the hell are you?  And what's been up with you?  Please keep us in the loop about what's going on with you.  I used to love to read your posts. (BTW, my screenname changed.  But it's me, Betty)

Queen, I'm sorry about Sexy.  I don't like getting involved with people who carry baggage.  That's one reason I didn't stay involved with you know who (the herpes man).  He was just getting out of a marriage and I didn't want to hear all about it.

Tendai, good luck with Mr. Out of town.  Women can have babies today, but of course I'm sure you know that.

Mum, so good to hear from you! Please tell Mini I'll be keeping her in my thoughts.  I hope she feels better soon and gets over her infection.

Today I have a lot of things to do.  I need to send off the package of fudge to my daughter, go shopping and I need to see my caseworker this afternoon (my welfare caseworker).  I missed a deadline for filing another application, and I don't want to lose my Medicaid, since they pay for the premiums for Medicare.  And we got a ton of snow last night.  I'm sure the roads are bad right now, so that will take extra time.

Nothing other than that, except for class tonight.  This is my last forensic psych class for the semester.  Unbelievable.  Anyway, you ladies have a good day.

Today is a sucky day. I have been in bed all day. Like I don't have enough going on, my sister has been getting on my last nerve. It's like since she has been here 3 years, she thinks she has the right to dictate or bark orders to me about shoveling snow among other things. Then she leaves these little fucked up messages on my phone. So, I have blocked her number so she can't call me. When I was sitting here a few weeks ago with nothing to eat and she knew this, she didn't bother asking me if I needed anything. Which is something she use to do when the car was running and I would take her ass to the grocery store. With me being diabetic and nothing to eat, anything could've happened to me. So in my eyes, she is now dead to me because basically that's how she left me. And with all the nitpicking she has been doing, I am on the verge of snapping on her ass. SO, I am not in a very good state of mind right now, I am very hurt because of Sexy and also very angry because of her.

Hey Mum----It's so good to hear from you. Sorry that Mini is not feeling good, I hope she gets better soon.

Tendai- I wish men weren't so ridiculous. Make up your mind already...right?  :)

Mum- It is SO nice to hear from you. I hope Mini feels better. You have been and definitely are in my thoughts. I miss your posts...take care of yourself. Hope to hear from you again soon.

Betty- Is fudge difficult to make? I have never made it, probably because I don't really care for it, but I've always wanted to. So do you have a break until January?

Well the week is ticking away...we are finishing up many projects at school and now that Friday is looming, I am getting stressed about finishing everything. Tomorrow night is the Holiday Chorus Program. Every year the 5th grade puts on a winter and spring show. They had a dress rehearsal for the primary grades and tomorrow for the 3rd and 4th grade and then again in the evening for the families. They were cute today. At one point Mr. and Mrs. Santa were talking and I guess Mr. Santa didn't finish his line so Mrs. Santa "whispered" (with the microphone on) to the teacher, "He didn't finish his line!" LOL! I hope they do well tomorrow night.

It has been raining here for the last couple of days and it has been so cold! Of course, I'm not talking about 12 degrees...more like 50-60...I know, I know... ;)

That's all...talk to you all later!

Morning ladies,

Queen, I'm sorry things are not working out there, especially when you were so happy to be moving there.  It sucks when things don't work out like we'd hoped.  Your sister must think she's the boss there.  And I can't believe she didn't check on you when you didn't have any food.  That's awful.

Andrea, I hope the Christmas programs go alright.  I haven't been to one in years.  What ever happened to that guy you used to see-wasn't he a cop or fireman?  I don't know why I just thought of that.  You  haven't talked about him in a long time.  Which is good, from what I remember.

It's another cold day (12F).  Starting tonight, it's supposed to sleet/snow and by tomorrow we're supposed to have up to 8 inches (and I'm not talking about 8 inches of anything good).  I don't understand why we're getting all this crap so soon in the year.  I thought the polar ice caps were melting?

Today my therapist comes over.  Then one more class tonight and that's it for the semester.  I have a break until Jan. 5th.  I wish we had a break until the 2nd week in January, but at least we get out at the end of April (I believe).  Next semester will be cram time.  I have to take a class online (the 2nd 8 weeks), which makes me a bit nervous, because I've never done that before and I'm worried I'll screw it up.  Anyway, there will be a couple new teachers (new to me), and that's always interesting.  I'm going to be taking two classes the 1st 8 weeks and three the 2nd 8 weeks.  Now I'm really jumping ahead of myself.

I don't know how much I'll be on next week, since I'll be at my sister's in AZ.  She has a computer, but I don't know what all she has planned to do.  I'll try to get on at least once to let you all know what I'm doing.    You all have a nice day.

Edited to add:  Andrea, fudge isn't that difficult to make.  I like it, but I usually only eat a couple pieces at a time 'cause it's so sweet.  This year I made 3 different kinds.

Mum - so good to hear from you. I hope Mini heals quickly and has no more troubles. I know how much it hurts to see your children feeling bad. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas.

Andrea - I make fudge every year. The hardest part is all the stirring.  ;D

I just finished making some butterscotch candy.

Good afternoon my honies :-*

Wendy, how in the world do you get your candy so evenly shaped?  When I make mine, it's all odd shaped and folks have to be careful not to cut their mouths on the sharp edges.  I've been baking mini loaves of cinnamon pecan bread, puppy chow (for humans..lol), home made truffles (mint, chocolate, and cherry), sugar cookie men (don't like gingerbread), chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies, and I forget what else.  Our last venture to Walmart earlier in the week, they were out of baker's chocolate and evaporated milk >:(....so no fudge yet for us.  We're taking the kids to the movies tomorrow morning and I'll check again.

Netta, hun, I sent you a PM.  Thanks for the prayers, they are certainly appreciated and coveted.

Vyv, BT, and Queen, thank you for the welcome back.  BT, I'll certainly have you in my prayers as you travel to AZ.  Before this last Sept, I hadn't flown in 11 years.  I was a nervous wreck, but all went well -no thanks to the fellow passengers.  Take lots of Dramamine, make sure you have snacks and a drink to take on the plane with you (some airlines make you pay for a pitiful cup of ice water), and register as a passenger who needs special boarding accomodations.  That way, you'll be able to board first, and let them know if you'll need transportation from one gate to the other if you have a layover.  They'll have a cool little golf cart thingy pick you up at the gate and take you to your connection.  It's really handy if you don't have a long layover.

And about the liquids - no one container can be more than 2oz and they all have to fit in a 1-quart bag.  I traveled with 2 pairs of scissors, 2 pairs of fingernail clippers, crochet hooks, and a sewing needle.  Guess what they took issue with: that I left my 1.6oz tube of toothpaste in the box when I put it in the zip lock bag.  I did it so it wouldn't moosh all over everything.  Toothpaste...in a box - such a dangerous weapon :-\   Oh, and to avoid checking luggage, use a carry-on size and then a big ol' purse thing.  Purses don't count as carry-on.  I packed Mim and I for 6 days in carry-ons.  Roll your clothes - they take up less room.  I didn't believe it, but it was true.

Mini is getting better everyday and her appetite is back in full swing - no more leftovers ;)  Lots of plans for the rest of the week / weekend and all I feel like doing is crawling under my covers and taking a nap.

My brother is flying in from Louisiana today.  We haven't seen him for a few months, and the kids especially miss him.  He's single, never had kids, and owns a business...so if anyone is interested...LOL - but you'll have to be a good auntie to my kids.

Have a great evening and a terrific Friday.
Kristina

Mum after I pour it in the pan to cool I start scoring it with a pizza cutter. Over and over and over until the score holds then they just break into pieces. I'm not making bon bons or truffles this year. Its too much work.

I started getting everything prepared to make fudge and my feet suggested maybe I'd like to sit down for a little while. Then my brain chimed in maybe someone out there would like your fudge recipe.
So here I am and here is my fudge recipe.

Never Fail Fudge
1 12 oz can evaporated milk
5 c sugar
2 sticks butter <not margarine>
1 16 oz pkg. chocolate chips or 2 1/2 cups
4 squares unsweetened bakers chocolate
1 (1lb) bag marshmallows <the little ones are easier to work with but it doesnt matter>
2 c nuts <usually pecans, you can choose whatever you prefer, it doesnt matter>

1. Mix sugar, butter and evaporated milk together and bring to a rolling boil over medium heat.
2. Once the mixture is boiling set a timer for 6 minutes and stir consistently<if you dont it will burn>
3. Remove pan from heat. Add chocolate squares and chips stir until melted then add the bag of marshmallows and stir constantly until it all melts.
4. Add the nuts and stir vigorously for 1 minute.
5. Pour onto large buttered pan and cool. Cut into pieces and enjoy.

This recipe makes 5 lbs of fudge. You can use what ever size pan you want. Thickness is a preference thing.

LOL dirty mind

Wendy- I would really love to try to make those candies. Would it be possible to get the recipe?

Mum- I like the idea of a sugarcookie man. I never thought about that. It's nice to hear Mini is getting better.

Betty- My ex is a firefighter and I still talk to him every once in a while. It really is not a good thing but I'm working on it. Believe me, the relationship has been the topic of many therapy sessions. I hope you really enjoy yourself.

Well, the program went REALLY well. The little boy that plays Santa went home sick today in order to rest for tonight. All of the actors were supposed to be at the school by 5:30pm. The program was scheduled to start at 6:00pm. At a quarter till Santa was still missing. They asked another boy to take the part and he very courageously accepted, even though he did not know the lines. The other kids were very concerned and I had to explain to them that Eric (Santa #1) was very sick and if he wasn't there, then he had to be feeling bad. Well...when they were introducing the program Eric ran in...Santa #2 was visibly relieved as were the rest of the kids.  :) After that things went smoothly. I was so proud of them! Tomorrow is our "party" and then 2 weeks of rest.

Morning ladies,

Netta, I'm glad you're back on schedule with your meds.

Wendy, that candy looks really good.  I've never made candy, other than fudge.  And I made three different kinds of that, so I'm burnt out right now.

Mum, glad to hear Mini's feeling better.  Please give her a big hug for me.  I'll remember the 2oz rule.  My sister (the one in AZ) told me 4oz (and she flies a lot).  Must be different airlines have different rules.  I'll check the airline's website.  My sister called them to tell them I was handicapped (because of my knees), so they're supposed to be making seating arrangements accordingly, and having a wheelchair ready when I land in Detroit to get me on the other plane.  She did that because there's only 40 minutes between flights when I land in Detroit, so that way the other plane won't take off without me.

Andrea, it's so hard to completely break off things with an ex isn't it.  Especially one that meant a lot.  I'm glad today's your last day before a two-week break.  I'm sure you'll need it.

Well, we're getting a horrible winter storm.  Tons of snow, and there's an ice coating on top of it.  I heard thunder this morning due to freezing rain; and we got the rain after all the snow.  There's power outages all over and they're telling us to let a trickle run out of our faucets so the water doesn't freeze.  I'm going out in a bit to see if I can clear off my car, so whatever else we're going to get doesn't leave too big a pile on the car (this is not supposed to clear out until after noon).  I hope the weather clears by Sunday so I won't be delayed in my flights.

School is over for another semester.  I won't know my grades in my classes until probably tomorrow or Monday.  If they're not on the website by Sunday morning, I'll be checking from my sister's computer for sure.  I only have two free days when I get back from AZ until school starts again.  That's alright.

Today, I'm going to stay home all day.  The weather isn't conducive at all for going anywhere.  My best friend is working in town today and is supposed to come over around noon, because her son is at work, and he works not too far from me.  She lives in a town about 30-40 minutes northeast of here and doesn't want to have to go home and come all the way back to pick up her son.  So, as long as she was able to make it to work, I'm sure she'll be here later.  I was also going to color my hair, but I might wait on that until tomorrow.  I usually color it at the end of the month, but I won't be here, and I don't want to walk around Phoenix with dark roots. :)   Anyway, you ladies have a good day.  Since I have to find something to do to occupy my time, I'm sure I'll be around here later.

Mum- It is so nice to hear from but I am sorry to hear that Mini hasn't been feeling well.  How the hell do you have time to make all those cookies?  I made 100 cupcakes for my kids classes one night and I thought I would die.

BT- We are supposed to be getting a big storm here too.  Supposedly, it was going to start snowing around 9, then it was 11, it is a little past 12 and nothing yet.  I am kind of nervous, if we loose power, it will be a huge mess.  I tried to go to the store and get enough food that wouldnt have to be cooked ,just in case.  My mother still hasn't gotten her power back, it was a week yesterday she lost it.  My father loves penuche fudge.  I am not sure what penuche is though?

Viv- The play sounds really cute, but a ton of work.  Do the kids give your presents?  I am going to have to pick your brain on what is good to give the teachers, I had 13 teachers to get something for this year and was pulling out my hair.  I ended up giving a lot of them  Christmas book bags that I had got in a clearance section last year.

Win- That butterscotch looks yummy!  Thickness is a preference thing. .....You are too funny!!

Queen- I am sorry to hear about Sexy and your sister.  I don't blame you for wanting to get away from her, if she lives right above you, she should be bringing you plates of food, never mind taking you to the grocery store, especially if you are not feeling well.  That always makes me really sad to hear when brothers and sisters aren't nice to each other, growing up an only child ,I always wanted someone to play or talk with.  It is almost worse now that I am older.

Ten- Hopefully, dude will come to his senses, if not, it is his loss.

I hope everyone has a good weekend!

Snow

Hard candy

a candy thermometer
2 c. sugar
2/3 c. light corn syrup
3/4 c. water
up to 1 tsp Oil flavoring <or amount to taste> they have candy oil flavoring at most hobby shops
Color <I used a teeny bit of icing paste coloring you can use food coloring>

Combine sugar, corn syrup and water in saucepan. Cook over medium heat. Do not stir until candy reaches hard crack stage @ 300 degrees. You will stir it before you cook it but as tempting as it is don't stir it while it is heating up otherwise the sugar might crystallise.

When the syrup reaches 260 degrees drop in the coloring. You dont need to stir it the bubbles will do that for you. Be careful of not to get any of the syrup on you.

When it reaches 300 to 302 degrees on the thermometer remove the pan from the heat, add your flavoring and stir. Too much stirring will cause syrup to solidify into a hard sugary lump.
Quickly pour your liquid candy into a Pam-sprayed sheet pan.
While it is cooling you can score lines in the syrup with a pizza cutter. Just do it over and over until it holds the lines. When it gets cool enough to handle you can break it into pieces easily with the score lines you made.
Too keep the pieces from sticking together you can sprinkle them with confectioners sugar.

I forgot to mention. Use a metal spoon for stiring. The candy may melt anything else.

Wendy, the first time I made candy, I used cinnamon flavoring.  No one warned me that after I put in the flavoring, that I should NOT under ANY circumstances, lean my head close to the pot and breath in. My eyes and nose burned!  I thought I'd burnt them off.  It wasn't the heat, but the intensity of the flavoring.

I wrote down the fudge recipe.  It's almost the same one I have, but mine calls for the entire package of baking chocolate and no chocolate chips.  With your recipe, i can substitute sugar-free chips and slenda for sugar.  I'm going to try that...it sounds so good.

Netta, I make greens for hubby and 3 of my kids (other 3 won't touch them).  I grew up in south Louisiana - home of seafood gumbo, red beans, rice, and collard greens.  I had minced onion and garlic to it.  LOL at the vitamens.  Actually, I take a B-6, C, Chroium, Zertec, and a multi-vitamen with Zinc.  As for the baking, I'm cheap - I have more time than money.  I take a weekend a month and bake goodies like crazy.  I freeze them so when we want a snack, I just have to pull them out and let them thaw.  Cookies, cakes (sliced and unfrosted), and dessert breads (banana, apple, and cinnamon) freeze well whole or sliced.

Betty, have a great time with your sister.  You certainly deserve a vacation.  Who's keeping Poppy while you're away?  Here's to an uneventful, on-time flight.

We took the kiddies to see Despereaux today.  It was us and about 20 senior citizens.  There weren't a lot of funny, laugh out loud, parts (but it didn't stop the seniors).  It had some wonderful messages.  Some were subtle, but most were spoken out loud.  The most memorable one was that some people think that grief is the strongest emotion, but it's not, forgiveness is.  Because a single act of forgiveness can dissolve all of one's grief.  I wouldn't recommend it for small kids.  It's actually a very deep movie mixed with "darker" scenes and mature story lines.

Here's to a wonderful weekend for all of you.  I wish you only the very best in whatever you do - even if you are like me and boycotting every store that might just so happen to have something that the crazed crowd may think they want to buy on this, the last weekend before Christmas and Hanukkah.  Honestly, I don't plan on getting out of my pajamas. (How's that for energized, Netta ;D)

Much love to you all,
Mum

Here's my Holiday recipe :)
Bread Dip
Get 2 round loaves of round pumpernickel or whatever kind of bread you like, I guess.

3 cups of sour cream
3 cups mayo
4 tablespoons onion cut to small pieces
4 tablespoons dried parsley
4 teaspoon beau monde( it is in the spice section, sometimes hard to find)
4 teaspoon dill weed

Mix all in the list together and let sit in fridge over night.

Make a bowl out of one of the loaves, cut the piece you took out and the other loave into a 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch chunks. Just not too big, don't want any double dipping :)

Put the mixture into the bread bowl and serve with chunks for an appetizer.

Mini- Think my 5 yr olds would be too small for that movie?  I was thinking of taking the gang during the holiday.

Has anyone seen that new movie with Will Smith?  Seven Pounds.  I read the review and it wasn't too good, the previews looked interesting though?

This is the pan of fudge I made yesterday.

Today I screwed up on the fudge I got distracted an so I wound up with 5 pounds of chocolate caramel with pecans in it. So I decided I will make bonbons after all. LOL
They taste pretty darn good too.  ;D

one of those when you got lemons make lemonaid moments. Bonbons take forever to make but I'm sure everyone will love them.

Hello Hello GFs~

Goodness, I haven't posted in over a month.  Hello to Camms and Mum, good to see you back here.  :)  I have been kicking some serious butt at work and just got a bonus last night at the holiday party.  I put the check in my purse and forgot about it when I got home later.  I still hadn't opened the envelope, but cried to Ice when I finally looked at the amount.  It had a comma in it and I was overwhelmed.  I earned every damn cent of it this year, too.  Work in the coming year will be rewarded on a merit-based system, so I am looking forward to it.  The new Controller is a nice guy, and he has a CPA, so I have been going into his office and picking his brain every day, lol.

I have been at Ice's except for maybe two or three nights in the past two months.  He doesn't want me to leave.  We put up the tree and combined both sets of ornaments.  Its really nice.  Tonight his youngest is here and I am staying overnight with a kid here for the first time.  She gets to sleep with Dad and I get the little bed, lol.  Its OK, I end up in there every night cause Ice snores.  We are becoming an old couple together, hee hee!

My parents are going to Hawaii tomorrow for the holiday, my brother got sent back over to the war two weeks ago, and I am spending the holidays with Iceman.  Thanksgiving was 28 people at a sit down dinner at his sister's husband's sister's house, if you can get that straight.  He hadn't spent Thanksgiving with his sis in 15 years cause his ex always had him on a leash during the holidays.  This year I am with him and he is getting back to his family, where he should be.

My dog Cheech is well, almost 15, with lots of doggie goodies under the tree for him, too.  I am going to try to post a pic of him with the tree.

I am exhausted these days, but content.  I think I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.  I finally go see my hand doc about my trigger finger on Monday after waiting a month for an appointment.  Whew!

So good to see you all.  :)

Love,

Cindy

Morning ladies,

Snow, I don't really know for sure what penuche is.  I've heard of it, but obviously have never made it.
That recipe for bread dip looks good.

Netta, those greens sound good.  I'm going to try them after I get back.

Mum, one of my very dear friends will be looking after Poppy.  He's an animal lover (has 3 dogs and 1 kitty), and Poppy loves him.  I bought my granddaughter the Despereaux book.  I wanted to give it to her before I leave, but it looks like it will have to wait until I get back.

Wendy, you sure like to cook!  I wish you lived closer. :)

Cindy, so good to hear from you.  I thought we might sooner or later.  I'm so glad things are going so well for you and Ice.  Will his girls be with you guys for Christmas?  Good going on the job also!  Oh, and Cheech looks so cute and content.

Yeah, I'm up early this morning.  Actually in a little while, I have to go pick up some food I ordered through a program called Angel Food Ministries.  It's available in different parts of the country, so if anyone is interested, go to angelfoodministries.com (http://angelfoodministries.com). (I think it's .com, and not .org, not sure).  Anyway, you get a big box of food, that's quality (not outdated or dented etc.) for $30.  And they take food stamps.  They have pickups at local churches.  I found out about it from a local newspaper and of course ordered it; I would have been a fool not to.  I'm going to be picking up one of my friends who ordered their meals (a person gets a 10-day supply of the main meal for $28).  I didn't get the main meal box, I got the box with meat etc. in it.  I'll let you ladies know what it looks like later.

Other than that, I don't really have any other plans.  I've got my clothes, the presents I'm taking, shoes etc. packed.  I can't believe tomorrow I'm going to be in the air!  I'd appreciate prayers and thoughts.    You ladies have a good day.  I'll probably be back later.

Cindy, so good to hear from you, hun!  Either Cheech has shrunk, or you have one mighty big tree.  He looks so teeny in the picture.  Take your bonus and spend it like a crazy woman on yourself: day at the spa, a massage, facial, pedicure, manicure, clothes, and a nice dinner. You worked hard for every cent and you deserve it.

This year we got the kids trees for their rooms - a purple tree for the girls and a 5-ft alpine for the boys. They were cheap (boys' was free).  We took them to AC Moore to pick out ornaments and then I crocheted them some mini stockings.  I did the boys' in the colors of football teams that they like (they had to tell me because I'm clueless) and the girls' are pink, purple, yellow, and some traditional red.  Our family tree isn't fancy, but it is very much us.

Snow, my 5yr old liked it pretty well.  The beginning was a bit slow for the 11 1/2yr old and some parts had him shutting his eyes until it was over.  Our 6 1/2yr old liked it, but said it had some scarey parts.  The story line is intense and they do show people dying and talk about the overwhelming grief associated with death. There's also a side-story about a dad giving up his daughter who then plots to kill the princess.  I wish we were more fore-warned before we went because I would've rented it and had hubby and I watch it first. Had we done that, honestly, my kids would've never seen it. The messages were wonderful and universal, it just isn't a kid movie.

A better movie, if it's playing where you are is "Bolt".  Hubby took the kids to watch it on Black Friday while I was shopping with my mom.  He said it was one of the best kids' movies he's seen in a long time.  Our kids STILL talk about it.

I was sitting here trying to think of a really cool Christmas recipe and all I could come up with was the recipes for part of what we had for dinner last night (my brain is slow this morning)

Really cool (and very easy) BBQ chicken:

Whatever cut of chicken you like.  I use thighs and pull all the skin off.
Whatever BBQ sauce you like.  I use KC Masterpiece Brown Sugar sauce.
Crockpot.

Put a layer of sauce in the bottom of the crockpot.  Layer in the chicken.  If you need to put more than one layer of chicken, then put sauce between the layers.  End with a layer of sauce.

Cover and cook on low for 9 hrs or on high for about 4 - 5 hours (depending on the amount of chicken you have.  The chicken is amazing and will fall off of the bone.  If we have leftovers, I pull the meat, add some of the sauce, and freeze it for BBQ sandwiches.  If you don't have a crockpot or want to eat faster, you can put the chicken in a baking pan and cook it for 1hr in a 350 degree oven.  If you do it this way, don't layer the chicken or it won't cook right.

Yummy, yummy, yummy flavored carrots. (my kids who HATE veggies BEG for me to make this)
1 or 2lbs of baby carrots
1 or 2 TBS of margarine (I use 1TBS for 1 lb and 2TBS for 2lbs of carrots)
dry ranch dressing seasoning mix (I find it in the salad dressing section)

Boil carrots in a tiny bit of water until crunchy-tender.  Drain well.  Add margarine to the carrots and stir until melted.  Add 1/2 of the package to 1lb of carrots or the whole package to 2lbs of carrots.  Stir until blended.  Continue to cook for 2 or 3 minutes to blend the flavors.

The left over mix is really good on grilled cheese or grilled ham sandwiches.  I butter the bread, sprinkle on the mix, and then run the knife back over the butter to distribute the seasoning.  It gives that extra something to turn a boring sandwich not so boring.  It's also good to add in boiled or mashed potatoes. Or, you can throw it in with your BBQ chicken.

I'm sure I can come up with something better once the cobwebs have cleared out.  Have a great pajama Saturday.

Mum

Hey Cindy! Nice to hear from you. Glad things are going well!  :) All this baking has inspired me. I think I'm going to make some cookies and treats this weekend. As far as recipes go...I'm just going to put the one I used yesterday with the kids.

Royal Icing
4 cups powdered sugar
3 tbls meringue powder
6 tbls warm water (has to be warm!)

Blend together at high speed until it starts to get thick and firm. About 3-5 minutes

We used this yesterday as the "glue" for our gingerbread houses. The kids made a mess but had a good time!

OK, here's one of the fudge recipes I made this year:

Candy Bar Fudge

1/2 c butter
1/3 c baking cocoa
1/4 c packed brown sugar
1/4 c milk
3 & 1/2 c confectioner's sugar
1 tsp vanilla
30 caramels, unwrapped
1 tbsp water
1/2 c semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 c milk chocolate chips

In a microwave safe bowl, combine the butter, cocoa, brown sugar and milk.  Microwave on high until mixture boils, about 3 minutes.  Stir in confectioner's sugar and vanilla.  Pour into greased 8-inch square pan.  In another microwave safe bowl, heat caramels and water on high for 2 minutes, or until melted.  Spread over chocolate layer.  Microwave chocolate chips on high for 1 minute, or until melted.  Spread over caramel layer.  Chill until firm.  Note: when you got to cut the fudge, you have to set it out at room temperature for about 2 hours; otherwise it's almost impossible to cut.

Cindy sent me a pm with the funniest cute gift. She will post the links later for you all to see. You'll get a kick out of it. I laughed so hard my tummy was in knots. LOL

Thanks again Cindy. I loved it.  ;D

OK, most of us are web-savvy, so you may have heard of this already.  This is the thing I sent Wendy in a PM and she said it was OK to post.  I spent last night reading threads 49 and 50 to catch up, and so many have been facing rough times.

Take a look at this and have a good chuckle.  I almost peed myself the first time I used this website!  LMAO!  Wendy, I think I'll post it in the Sooper Dooper Funny Thread, too!  :)

Just popped in to say.....Have a safe trip, Betty....Good to see you again, Cindy. I thought you eloped and married Ice, you been gone so long. Nice recipes ladies, I don't make sweets but I wouldn't mind trying the greens recipe Netta put up. I don't know how to cook greens, believe it or not but I can cook chitlins..hehe

Not much really going on with me, just chillin and playing Warcraft as usual. Yesterday was my Mom's bday who has since passed and today is my baby sister's bday. I also have another sister who's bday is on Xmas. I'll just be glad when it's over to be honest. I know you ladies are busy putting on the final touches for your holiday...I am just counting the days til New Year's Eve...Though 2008 wasn't really all that bad for me but am going to make 2009 better.

Hey My Ladies,

Just dropping in to say Hello. Nothing much going on with me. I had an doctors appointment on last Wedsenday. I had to go in and get labs done. Lately I have been dealing with this watery feeling in my ear when I lay down at night. The doctor said it was my  sinus. It is really aggravating (sp?) I have also been dealing with a bout of tiredness. I can't sleep at night. Oh well, besides that all is good. I am basically through Christmas shopping. It seems like a ton of presents under my tree. I just love this time of year even though it was the day after Christmas that I got my results. Our last day of work is tomorrow and i'm off until Monday.  ;D. I just love the recipes you ladies have put up. I think I will try to make some fudge for the first time in my life. I might make it tonight for my children at the center.

Betty- I hope you have a fun and safe trip.

To all my other Ladies, Love you all and hopefully I will get to check back in later.

Morning Ladies---

I am up at this ungodly hour because I had a late night visitor and I have an appointment this morning with Section 8. My visitor left around 4:30am and I just couldn't go to sleep afterwards. And if I were to go to sleep to catch a nap, I would not wake up. Best believe, I will be crawling into my bed after and will prolly sleep the rest of the day away.

We are on a lake effect snow watch that has been in effect since 4 pm yesterday and is suppose to last until 4 pm today. I did make an attempt to shovel earlier last night but there wasn't much out there. But when my company left, it looked kinda deep. I am thinking if I want to shovel before I go to my appointment or wait.

Just thought I would check in since I am up, though I feel like a freaking zombie.... :o

Hey ladies,

Queen, you posted the same time I was going to, and I looked to see who had and couldn't believe my eyes that it was you. :D  I hope your appointment goes well at section 8.  I really don't care much for those appointments, or the recert appointments with welfare, but I guess I have to have them to keep getting anything.  I hope you get some sleep today.  I would be majorly dragging ass if I didn't get any sleep.

Wendy, thanks.  I'm sure I would enjoy your poz friends.  Here there are no hetero poz groups.  Well, being that I'm bisexual, I suppose that's not such a big deal, but dammit, no available people at the regular HIV support group either.  And I'm unable to go right now anyway, due to school.

Andrea, what's going on?  Are you sleeping in?

Cin, I will check out those links you posted as soon as I post this.

Keeping, did you make some fudge?  I'm curious how you liked it.

Well, you all probably didn't expect to see me this morning.  My flight was cancelled yesterday due to the weather.  We've been getting blasted.  The temp right now is -2F.  Yesterday, when I was at the airport, the windchill was -23F.  And it was blowing snow like crazy and the roads were ice covered.  When I got up yesterday, I lost power for a couple hours, so I wasn't really sure I was going to go, when I couldn't see to get myself ready.  Then, I was at the airport all day.  The flight was cancelled 15 minutes before it was due to arrive.  Then of course, everyone had to wait in line to get their luggage back.  I took a cab home, which costs $21.00!  Do you believe that?  I live like 20 minutes away from the airport.  Anyway, my sister and I rebooked my trip for Thursday, Christmas Day.  That's supposed to be the first clear day we have this week.  It's blowing horribly outside, then tomorrow and Wednesday, we're due for a winter storm.

I am so sick of this weather.  I hope I can make it to Phoenix Thursday so I can be out of this for awhile.  And I hope when I fly back, that will be uneventful (which is Jan. 2nd).  I don't want to be stuck in Phoenix, especially with school starting Jan 5th. I don't want to be stuck in Detroit either, which is where my connecting flights are.  Oh, I got two A's in the classes I just took (Forensic Psych and Human Sexuality).  Yay.

Today I have to get milk, since I poured mine out yesterday before I left for the airport (didn't want it sitting in my frig going sour), and I'm going to pick up a friend's of mine son when he gets off work, which is not too far from me.  She's working right now, and her mum is babysitting, so she needed someone to do it.  I hope the driving conditions aren't too bad out, but fortunately I don't have to go far for either.  Other than that, I'll be hunkering down here and waiting for the winter storms.  I hope you ladies have a good day.

For some stupid reason people tend to not care if a woman is bisexual but make a big deal about the men who are. Makes no difference to me.

Good Morning!

Betty- That totally sucks about your flight! What an inconvenience. At least you still get to go see your sister. Did the airline charge any more money? You would think they wouldn't but who knows. Stay warm! Oh...congratulations on your grades.   ;D ;D

Keeping- Hey there lady! I have sinus problems too but mine mostly cause pressure and really bad headaches. Tylenol Sinus works for me.

Well, my goal for this week is to get some work done so I don't leave it for the last minute. For the first time I will be glad when the holidays are over. This is usually my favorite time of year but my family has completely fallen apart and it is not what it used to be. My mom has pretty much totally moved to Texas and only comes out for a few days on holidays and my dad informed me yesterday that he is having his new "friend" come over for Christmas and he doesn't want me to be surprised. This is his 4th or 5th "friend". My mom expects us all to be supportive of her and my dad just does what he wants. My sister in the mean time has no guidance. Ok...enough dwelling...I'll save it for my therapist LOL! We need to have something to talk about. Today I think I will clean up and wrap some gifts. Stay warm everyone!  :)

Hi ladies! Just wanted to pop in real quick to wish everyone a safe Holiday. I do come here everyday and read every bit but with my job and hectic homelife, I can never designate a set amount of time to reply as frequent as I like. It seems like everytime I start a reply, something happens and I can never get back to it. Anyway, things are ok here. My youngest had a stomach virus last week which was a nightmare since I have emetephobia (fear of vomit). Luckily nobody else got it. My mom is still in town and my sister will arrive sometime this evening. I am cooking Christmad dinner for the first time ever and am excited but nervous. Luckily my bf is an awesome cook. This is also the first year that I won't have to leave my house on Christmas day. I am adopted but know my biological family and I typically would go to my grandmas, moms and aunts but I just straight up told them that this year, I ain't doing it. We will go there Xmas eve though, I am not that harsh. hee hee. As you can see from my sig line, for some reason they detected a small viral load this last blood draw. No worries though...I guess. Just hope next one doesn't go up. Then I would be going on combo #3 and I haven't even been on meds a year yet. I have been having some issues with what feels like bone aches, not muscle aches. It's like I feel like I may be coming down with something but never do. I have had to take Darvocet's on a regular basis (which I do not like doing). Anyway....

Again, I hope you all have a safe and happy holiday.

Sincerely,

Jenny

Hi GFs~

I finally got to see the hand doc tonight and she gave me a cortizone shot in my palm, at the base of my middle finger, right hand.  It didn't hurt too bad, and she said the stuff will take a week to start working and will help to alleviate the stiffness in my finger.  I've made a follow-up appt for 6 weeks in case I need another shot.  The doc was hopeful that this would work, 2/3's of the time it does!

Well, I am in a good mood tonight and so damn grateful for everything it my life.  I have been tearing up when singing Christmas songs and all that.  LOL  Yeah, I know, I know, but.....

I have made it to 15 years with this virus, ladies.  FIFTEEN YEARS.  I remember being 24 and being excited for Christmas, going back to my GYN for my test results, not a care in the world.  I was told I was poz on 12/22/93 and I remember saying, "This couldn't have happened to a better person, its not going to get me, I will fight this thing."  After AZT, protease inhibitors, Zerit and Videx and a dose of lipo, I am still standing.

I have a lot to be thankful for, I really DO.  :)

Merry Christmas to all of you!

Forgot to add that my new labs are below.....  :)

~Cindy

Cindy-I'm glad you are finally getting some relief for your hand. I hope the shots work. You know I find myself sometimes forgetting I'm even positive. I don't know if it is denial or acceptance.  :) No one ever promised life would be easy and it is what we make it! Any big plans with you and Ice?

Betty- I hope you're not frozen!

Again another day of nothing much. I took the dog for a walk this morning. I put a sweater on her, she wasn't too thrilled, and out the door we went. If she could she would walk for hours. That dog never gets worn out! She needs to be on a treadmill for about an hour!

Morning ladies,

Wendy, I know people who don't care if women are gay, but get creeped out when they see two men who are.  I sometimes think it's them not being comfortable with themselves.

Andrea, no, the airline didn't charge anymore money, since the flight was cancelled.  I'm sorry your family's so flaked out right now.  I suppose it's just everyone doing their own thing.  Is your mum in town right now?

Cin, congrats on making it to 15 years.  Next February will be my 20th anniversary.  I hear ya on the early medications, I know all about those.   I hope the Cortisone works for your fingers.

Tendai, I hope you enjoy all you can of Mr. Out-of-town while he's around.  And have a great holiday season.  I'll be looking for you in January.

The weather right now is actually up to 15F.  That's warmer than it was all day yesterday.  A couple more days and I'm supposed to be flying again.  If this flight gets cancelled, I'm not rebooking unless my sister's willing to do it for sometime in spring/summer.  Flying during the winter is kind of insane; you never know what it's going to be like outside.  According to the weather channel, we're supposed to be getting a winter storm today/tomorrow, then snow early on Christmas.  And I'm supposed to be flying out at 8:00 a.m.  And if it gets delayed, I might not be able to go either, since I'm supposed to catch a connecting flight in Detroit, then fly onto Phoenix.  Anyway......

They're having stories this week in my hometown newspaper about the homeless people.  This morning's was about a small group of homeless women, how they travel around during the day (to different businesses until they get run out), abandoned buildings they stay in to try to keep warm at night, and one of them prostituting to try to get a little money for drugs/food etc.  It makes me really, really sad.  Our homeless shelter was once the focus of other shelters across the country, because of their good track record.  They're still a good shelter, they have a lot of good programs.  It's just that it can't accomdate everyone who needs it right now.  And the other shelter (the one I volunteered at) has a month-long waiting list.  It makes me so grateful I have a place to live, and a little less likely to start bitching about the weather when I don't have to actually live out in it.

I can't believe it's almost Christmas.  Without my parents, it's a little hard to keep track of holidays, since they always used to do that, talk about them coming up etc.  I miss them a lot, I really do.  For those of you with parents (whose parents aren't complete assholes) consider yourselves extremely lucky.  If there's any mending of the fences to do, do it now and treasure your relationship with them.  I understand not everyone has a good relationship with their parents, for one reason or another.  I just had to realize, when thinking about the mistakes my parents made, that I made a hell of a lot as a parent, and I know no one who has a perfect track record with children.  Of course, I'm not talking about extremely abusive parents (sexually, physically).

Today I really have nothing to do.  So, I'll probably be around on and off.  Have a good day ladies.

Hey Netta- another man huh? You are on fire! LOL!

Wendy, I'm right there with you, hun.  I made your fudge recipe (with a couple of alterations) and stirred in some hickory nuts from our tree.  Then, I made 4 doz chocolate chip cookies, 3 dozen peanut butter, and today I'm baking 2 loaves of bread, 3 dozen rolls, and about 5 dozen orange-chocolate cookies.  My parents and brother are coming over tonight for supper before we go to Christmas Eve service, then they'll be back tomorrow morning for breakfast - cooking part of that today, too.  Tomorrow night, we'll head to my parents' house for dinner (I'm bringing the rolls).

I love to cook, just hate cleaning up..LOL..so Hubby does that.

Ladies, my body is officially WHACKED out.  OK, it's been whacked for years, it's just choosing now to remind me.  I started this morning - 11 days late!  I took 2 tests just to make sure #7 wasn't on the way, although we couldn't figure out when it happened if it did.  I'm thinking that if it didn't bother my body to be 11 days late, it shouldn't have bothered it to be 13 days late and start after Christmas.  Now I'm crampy, my kidneys hurt, my right leg keeps going numb, and I'm irritable.  I know, i'm always irritable.  Today I'm extra irritable.

On top of all that, the heating element went out in our water heater.  Hubby took out the old one last night, but didn't put the new one in.  Translated: I can't take a shower until who knows when. >:(  It's raining and getting above freezing later this afternoon so I may just take my soap and a towel...if not, we have wet wipes.

I hope all of you ladies have a wonderful Christmas.  Betty, you're plane should be leaving soon - here's to a safe, uneventful, on-time, journey and a fun-filled visit with your sister.

Much love to you all!
Mum

Man, it seems like ever since I lost that one nights sleep,my sleeping schedule has been off. I have been sleeping off and on. I will try once again to go back to sleep after posting here. A friend of mine and his sister stopped over last night. They gave me some presents which I was truly surprised. I got a silver necklace with a M on it, a red hoodie type shirt, it's cute, earrings, and a knick knack, it's an egg but it is so pretty, it opens up. That made my day. I wasn't going to open them til Christmas but they made me open them early.... ;D

I admit too, Wini, you sure are on a baking frenzy. I never knew anyone that baked so much with the exception of my Dad.

Tendai--- Enjoy yourself.. ;)

Mum---I don't have those problems anymore, thank the Goddess for the depo shot and I got my tubes tied 18 years ago. And with using condoms on top of that, I'd say I am well protected.... ;D

Betty----I hope you make your trip on time. Sexy left yesterday to go visit his fam in Chicago.

Well, I am going to try to go back to sleep again...

Morning ladies,

Netta, you go!  I wish I had the problem of trying to balance men. :)

Wendy, I hope you have a good time eating those treats you've made.  Are you giving them away as presents or keeping them? ;)

Andrea, what are you going to be doing tomorrow?

Mum, I hope the heating element gets fixed soon.  I think as women get older, their cycles get more off-balanced.  At least that's what I experienced.  I'm like Queen-I had my tubes tied (although about 19 years ago), and I'm also on the Depo shot, to stop the bleeding.

Queen, I was watching the local news this morning and Chicago has been kind of a mess the last few days.  It's freezing rain there this morning.  My brother and his girlfriend are going there for Christmas, since he's estranged from my two sisters.  Anyway, they made reservations at a couple restaurants and they're going to see the Broadway play Wicked.  I am totally jealous, I would like to go see it.  Anyway, he said they're also going to the Museum of Art and the Shedd Aquarium. And his girlfriend wants to go ice skating, which he has never done (I haven't either, not my thing).  I hope the weather clears while they're there.  I'm glad you got some presents.

Yep, I don't know if I'm going to be posting tomorrow morning or not, as I have to be at the airport by 7:00 a.m.  It would have been nice to get a later flight, but at least I'll get there before it's night my time.  I'm leaving there at 8:00 a.m., getting into Detroit at 9:11, leaving there are 9:55 a.m., then arriving in Phoenix at 3:00 p.m. my time.  I was thinking, wow, that's a long ass time in the air.  I'm just nervous because I haven't flown in so long.  I hope I don't puke at all, that'd be totally uncool.

I really don't have anything else exciting to report.  My daughter lives in Washington, where they've been getting all that snow they're not used to getting there.  I talked to her a couple nights ago, and last night, and she said they don't have the road crews there like we do here to clear the snow.  Luckily she's driven in it before, but she said her car doesn't do well on it.  Her boyfriend just got out of the hospital yesterday.  He had a blood clot in one of his arms.  She said they sent him home with some injectable medicine he has to take for awhile.  I have no clue what she's talking about.  It's not Insulin, it's some blood thinner he has to inject into his stomach.  I don't believe I've ever heard of that.  Anyway......  I hope you ladies have a good day!

UUUGhh.. I just lost what I was posting, my laptop has been freaking out lately.  While I am typing the letters all of sudden stop going in order and jump up into another word I have already typed, it is very annoying.

Queen- I was laughing at your sig line, that is a good one.  Sweet Dreams ;)

Mum- I hope you are feeling better.  I am going to try your carrot recipe tomorrow, my kids love HVR.  I hope your hubby fixes the hot water heater soon, it sucks not having hot water.

BT- Sorry to hear your flight got cancelled, I hope your flight goes well tomorrow.

Win- You should give Martha Stewart the boot, you have a much better personality anyway.  I wish I would have some of your peanut butter cookies.  I was going to make them for my Mom to put in a cookie jar I got her but didn't want to chance it with one of the kids having a nut allergy.

Viv- How much time do you have off?  I can't believe the kids out here are out for 2 weeks straight.

Netta- Congrats on the new man!

Ten- We will miss you, I hope you are doing well!

Keeping- How are you feeling?  Remember that cartoon I was talking about?  It was Max and Ruby.

Hi Jenny!!!
I hope everyone has a happy and healthy holiday!

My Mom and Dad are supposed to come over tomorrow but my Moms dog got hit by a car Monday afternoon and she might have to go and get her out of the hospital.  They ended up taking her to a vet that is a friend of the family but who lives 3 hrs away, because the hospital wanted her to take the dog to a 24 hr hospital.  When my mother took her last dog there, just recently, the bill ended up being over $8000 and they still had to put the dog down  :(

Good Morning Everyone! Lots of happy baking going on!

Mum- I hope you get that hot working soon. Enjoy all your baked goods and have a wonderful Christmas.

Betty- I hope you have a good time and your plane actually gets to leave

Snow- I am so sorry about your mom's dog. That is terrible. I would be devastated if something if something happened to my dog.

Well today it is supposed to rain and I plan on staying in an wrapping presents and baking a treat to take to my friend's house tomorrow night. Yesterday I took some toys and a blanket to the animal shelter to donate for Christmas. I wish I could just take all of them home. My mom is in town with her fiance. I did not know he was coming. They are staying at my grandparents house. It has been about 3 years since my parents got divorced but believe it or not it is still difficult for me. Tomorrow I am going over to my grandma's house and then my dad's and then I will have dinner at my friend's with her family.

Snow, I think you asked how long of a break I have...I go back on the 5th.

That's all for now. I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe holiday!

Just a quick pop in to say Merry Christmas to everyone. The goodies are all for gift baskets for family and friends. I do it every year and I am officially done with the baking.
Today I baked Ranger cookies. Never made them before its an interesting recipe. They are tasty.
Have a safe and happy holiday!

Very early morning ladies,

Snow, I am so, so sorry about your mum's dog.  I hope you all have a good Christmas anyway.

Andrea, good luck with the family situation.

Wendy, I know you're relieved to be done with the baking.

Yes, it's only 4:45 a.m. here.  I tried to get to sleep early last night, but of course being used to staying up late couldn't.  Oh well, I suppose I can sleep on the plane.  Oh, before I forget, MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!   I sure hope you all have a good day today.

I only have the stuff I'm using this morning (toothbrush, etc.) to pack up.  I really can't believe I'm going, suppose I won't until I'm actually sitting on the plane.

I hope all you ladies have a wonderful day.  I'm going to try to use my sister's computer while I'm there to keep up with everyone. :-*

Popping into wish everyone a merry xmas and all that. I am just going about my day like I would any other. Gonna take a nap soon though.

Snow---I had that problem before too. Have you tried going into your mouse settings and adjust your mouse sensitivity? That use to drive me nuts too. Maybe try to update your driver? Those were the two things that I did.

Betty-- I hope you made it out today. And have a safe trip.

Nothing at all to report here either. I am just glad that the day is almost over. I'll check back in later.

I'm back home from visiting my brother's house. It was a very nice day. We had wonderful spring weather and having the family together is always nice.
We will have my step son and daughter and grand baby over tommorrow some time to open their presents. They where in Houston for the holidays and are traveling back as we speak.
My son has spent the last 6 days at my house visiting us and friends he has in my town. He went back to his house this evening. I called him to see how his gift exchange went with his girl and her baby. They seemed happy and that is always good to hear.
In all it was a great day and the very nice presents I recieved doesn't hurt either.  ;D

I hope you all had a day filled with love and happiness. It is always tough to remember people we have lost and try to keep in good spirits. I think they would want us to be happy so keep you chins up and I will try to do the same.

Every Christmas we have a specific traditional schedule that we follow.  It helps keep things straight and our "Aspie" kids like the consistency.  However, around 7:00 last night, surrounded by 23 relatives from my mom's side, something totally amazing happened.  My dad took out a machine - something he'd gotten for Christmas from my mom, popped in a CD, grabbed a microphone, and started to sing "Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown" - karioke style!

That was followed by my oldest son and 2 cousins singing all manner of craziness.  The bug hit us all and we couldn't wait to get our turn at the mic.  Hubby and I, neither of which can sing a wit, decided to sing a ballad to my 78yr old grandmother.  We dedicated it to her with the knowledge that she secretly sings it on her back porch every evening.  Oh, what did we sing?  "I'm too sexy!" complete with run-way struts, tooshie shakes, and nutty girations.

The grand finale was a medley of songs.  It started out with all the girls in the family, and yes, that included my 78yr old grandmother (who'd never heard of Cindy Lauper) singing "Girls just wanna have fun" and the males singing "We are family".

In the years to come, I'll never remember what I got for Christmas in 2008.  No one will remember what my mom cooked, who brought the deviled eggs, or that some of the napkins didn't match the dinner plates.  What we will remember is the 2hrs that was spent sitting in the livingroom entertaining each other with both the silly and the sublime.  We'll never forget cheering as Grammy sang "I'll be home for Christmas", our youngest singing back-up with her Paw-paw (she echoed "bad, bad, bad"..it was all she could say).  My 6ft 3in. brother singing "R-E-S-P-E-C-T" falcetto.  Hubby and I doing our best "I'm too sexy".  And, yes, my 78yr old grandmother shaking her rumpus to "Girl's Just Wanna have Fun".

It was by far, the very best Christmas ever.  And, one that no one will soon forget (especially since we have the video)

Here's to a wonderful New Year filled with heart-warming memories, new traditions, and the assurance that each new day olds the promise that things can, and will, get better

I hope everyone had a wonderful day yesterday!

Mum- It sounds like you a lot of fun!  :) :) Good thing you caught it all on video.

Win- You had a nice day too  :)

Well yesterday was a very busy day for me. I went to my grandmother's house for breakfast and I was kind of not looking forward to it because of things with the family but it actually turned out really good. I got some nice gifts. After all that business my sister and I went to see my dad to give and get gifts. We had a nice talk. I then I had to hightail to go change to go to my friends house for dinner. I stopped at home and I felt so bad because my dog had been at home all day and at this point it was 3:00pm. The dinner was nice. Good food and good company.  :) The night was not over though...I had to go home change and get ready to go to a party that friends of our family have every year at their house. At first I wasn't going to go but there were a lot of people that I have not seen in a while. So, at 7:00pm I was changing again. The party was the usual crowd but it was nice. I stayed for a few hours and then at around 11:00 it hit me...I was TIRED!  :) I came home and went to bed. The day turned out to be much better then what I thought it would. I hope all of you had a wonderful day. Is anyone going out to shop the sales???? I certainly won't be LOL!

Have a good day!

Hey ladies,

I made it to Phoenix.  I can't believe it.  The trip went off pretty uneventful.  The flight from Detroit (which is where I flew to from my town) to Phoenix was pretty long, four hours.  But it's good to be here.  My sister and I are going to pick up my niece at the airport in a few.

I'm glad everyone seemed to have a good Christmas.  It's so nice here compared to where I live.  I e-mailed a friend of mine from there and he said the roads are shut down and they're only allowing emergency equipment on the roads.  Of course, this means that my cat's not going to get to be taken care of until later, but that's alright.  I just have a twinge of guilt is all.  My sister has two cats, one's a mancoon.  They're both beautiful, but the male is scared of me.

Netta, thanks for posting what you did.  I will definitely keep your sister in my thoughts and prayers.

Queen, I'm glad you made it through Christmas.  I know it's not your favorite day of the year.

Wendy, I'm glad you had a good day.  Thanks for posting what you did about the people we've lost wanting us to be happy.  I'm sure they do.

Mum, the kareoke sounds like a lot of fun.  I'm glad you had such a nice time.

Andrea, I'm glad things went well with your family.  That must be such a relief.  And I'm glad you went out and had a good time.

Well, we're going to be off to pick up my niece at the airport.  I'll probably be back on tomorrow sometime, maybe.  I'm not sure what all we're going to do while I'm here.

All the ladies who didn't post yesterday, I hope you all had a nice day.  And have a good one today.

Hey Ladies,

I hope everyone had a blessed and safe christmas holiday. I truely did. Sorry I couldn't get on to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. We were so busy with visiting and the children I was worn out. I didn't get my house clean until 2 a.m. last night. On Christmas Eve we had a party and it was great. People didn't leave until 2 that morning. Today marks the offical day that I have made it 1 whole year knowing I had this virus. I am actually stonger than ever. When I first found out I didn't think I would make it to this year. My CD4 is 535 with an undectable virual load. I haven't gotten my results from my last visit which was on the 17th. 2008 has been a wonderful year. I got married, I met and feel in love with you ladies. You guys are my rock. If it weren't for you guys I think I would have gone crazy by now. I don't have a support group, therefore you guys are my support group. And I love you guys  :'(.

BT- I'm happy you arrived safely. I have never rode on a plane in my whole 28 years.

Snow- it took you like a week and a half to come up with the name of the cartoon lol  ;D, did you have a good holiday?

Viv- It sounds like you had a great time. You partied like a rockstar like me... I had loads of fun.

Netta- we love you to girl

To everyone I missed, I love you girls too.

Kristina, I can see my family doing the same thing. It sounds like you had fun.

Betty, I'm glad you got to Phoenix safe and sound. I've done the 4 hour plane ride before. Not much fun especially if you are in the center seat between two heavy set people.  ;D

Keeping, your so sweet. I'm glad your doing so well.

much love to everyone!

I am so glad it is finally over...Now we can move on to New Years... It's suppose to be in the 60's here today and tomorrow. That is just nuts to me. Nothing really going on just sleeping a lot and playing my game when I am woke.

Betty--Glad you made it safely. 4 hours is nothing, one time when I went to Puerto Rico, it took 8 hours. I thought I was going to die.

Glad everyone had a good time with their families. It just made me miss my son and my Dad. I got a letter from my son yesterday so I have to write him back. He's in some prison like 6 hours away from here but from what I am told, he will only be there a few months then they will ship him somewhere else.

Since I am up early, I think I may do some laundry...Have a good day ladies...

Good Morning! Well I know I said I wasn't going to go out shopping but I ended up at the mall. What got into me I don't know. I went with my mom to try to exchange a pair of shoes that I got in the wrong size. Of course they didn't have what I wanted. We went early and it actually wasn't too bad. My sister ended up meeting us there and we spent a good portion of the day looking. When we got ready to leave I went with my sister and her car battery was dead. Had to call triple A and they came out and took care of it. There's always something going on! Today I have to go to the market and maybe get some laundry done. Enjoy your Saturday ladies!

Hello ladies,

Keeping, I'm so glad you had a good time on Christmas. And now that you're through your first year being poz, things will be a lot better, you know, emotions wise.  You made it through a year, wow.  Isn't that great?

Wendy, luckily I had a aisle seat.  I had to insist on it, because of my knees.  They won't physically bend to sit in the other seats.  I was supposed to have a better seat than I did, but they gave it to someone else.  Oh well.

Queen, eight hours?!  Yikes.  The lady I sat next to in the plane talked about when she was a kid how her mother would fly to Europe and how she hated sitting for 12 hours in a plane. I couldn't even imagine it.  I know about missing family members; it's the first Christmas without either parent and it's hard.  I am so sorry about your son, but I'm glad he writes you.  At least you know what's going on with him.  I hope you take some time for you and do something that makes you happy.  {{HUG}}

Andrea, you must be crazy going to the mall.  But, whatever makes people happy.  I'm glad you didn't run into a lot of crowds and craziness.

Today we're going to visit my sister's past foster children.  She takes care of special needs children in her home for the state of AZ.  A lot of them have been placed elsewhere, but they all still keep in touch.  While I'm here, we're also going to see that movie "Slumdog Millionaire," we're going to a Native American museum, and to See's candy store.  I love their candy.  I'm not sure what else we'll be doing.  My niece flew in from Baltimore, and tomorrow her grama and uncle are coming over for Christmas dinner (I know, better late than never).

This is really a much needed break from the craziness of school, some of the people back there (and their dramas), etc.  School starts again on the 5th.  The other universities start on the 12th, and I don't know why we have to go back so early.  But, we'll get out early (the end of April I think).

Nothing else going on.  You ladies all have a good day.

Ladies :)

I know I've been gone for what seems like forever but I definitely had to drop in before the New Year.  Happy belated Merry Christmas to everyone and warm welcomes to all the Newbies I have missed during my absence!!!

So quick update---We have moved to Atlanta.  We got here on Halloween.  The kids are loving being back on the east coast.  I found a job right away that barely pays anything but at least I have a job.  I was able to find a clinic right away more or less and have my 1st visit on New Years Eve day, LOL And I passed the semester so it looks like I will be a college grad in the Spring. (just my Associates but at least I did it)  I'm going to try and attach some pictures of the kiddies, key word being try.  Also, thanks Win and BT for the candy recipes that I am going to put into action asap ;)

Love, kisses and best wishes  .  .  .  Blessed :)

Okay, lets see if I can get the others on here too.  The 1st post had the baby and his baby dreads, he's 10 months now.  The twins and they're 10 now.  Hopefully, I can get the 17 (going on 37 and thinking she's grown) and the 14 (who won't stop cutting her hair)  .  .  .

So it's official that I have to many children because I can't them all into one post, LOL  And now I can't find away to get the picture of my 14 year old small enough to add but I'm going to keep trying  .  .  .  Got it!!!!

BT- Glad to hear you made it to AZ safe and sound.

Blessed- Nice to see you, welcome to the east coast!  You have a beautiful family.

Keeping- Isn't that sad, talk about being slow..LOL

Viv- Thank goodness for triple a.  My father renews my subscription every year for x-mas.

Queen- Is it possible they might ship your son closer to you?  That would be nice!

I don't know what is going on with me.  I thought I had gotten rid of my cold but Christmas day I got hit again and have been spiking a fever.  I feel like complete shit.  Just wanted to say HI!

OH- I did get good news Friday, my court date with my sons father isn't until April.  YAAAHHHH!
Hope everyone has a good week.

Morning Ladies---

I don't know what the hell is going on with my sleep schedule. I slept all day and most of the night last night. I woke up at 2 am this morning and has been up since. I still say it is because I stayed up that one day all day, my sleep has been off since. Or maybe I am depressed about something subconsciencly, I dunno. Though at the moment, there is nothing stressing me.

Blessed--Good to see you, didn't know you moved to Hotlanta. Seems like lots of folks are moving there. I wonder why? I bet your teen daughters give you a run for your money, just kind of looks like it from the photos. Not the twins but the other 2.

Snow--Hope you feel better soon. I know I have been having severe stomach cramps, not sure what that is about because I don't have a period anymore. I was almost in tears the other day but I just rode it out. Been a little crampy today too. Not sure where my son is going to be moved to but where he is now I have been hearing isn't exactly good. They are locked in their cell 23 hours a day, that is like being in solitary confinement.

Other than that, not much going on with me. I'll check back later.

It sounds like everyone had a good holiday. I loved reading what everyone did. Christmas Eve marked my one year infection date and of course I got sick. Not sure how or why but was puking and poopin the whole daggon night. The next morning I was fine. Never really felt sick, it was weird. I am a little bummed about my slight vl load (yes, I know I shouldn't be) but I think while I was undetectable I was in denial maybe and now am not so much. My kiddos are sick too. One with diarrhea and the other a cold. My mom and sister go back to Florida today and I am a mess. They have been a blessing while here. My kids drive me bonkers and it was wonderful to get some much needed help. Anyway, hope everyone has a great New Year!!

Hi to all -

I am so sorry I have not been around for a while - and I thank you all for being there when I was first diagnosed in Jan 2008, it was invaluable and I can not thank you all enough

But I had a lot in my own head to sort out - but I am sorry that I have dipped in and out when you all give so much to this all the time

Have sorted a few things - Hope I am still welcome?

It sounds like everyone had a good holiday. I loved reading what everyone did. Christmas Eve marked my one year infection date and of course I got sick. Not sure how or why but was puking and poopin the whole daggon night. The next morning I was fine. Never really felt sick, it was weird. I am a little bummed about my slight vl load (yes, I know I shouldn't be) but I think while I was undetectable I was in denial maybe and now am not so much. My kiddos are sick too. One with diarrhea and the other a cold.

Jenny-- It sounds like to me, you had some sort of stomach virus especially since your kids are sick too. But I am not a doctor but I play one in my own little world and like to diagnose people from time to time. But I am glad you are feeling much better.

Hey Veritee--- Well, we all have our own demons or things to straighten out from time to time. Girl, as long as you don't have any cemeteries in your closet, we're cool.... ;D And I am joking mind you...And why wouldn't you be welcomed back, silly rabbit. A lot of us, including myself have taken a break from the forums for a spell. It happens and sometimes it is needed. Though personally, it seems I can only stay away for a few days. Yeah, my name is Queen and I am hooked on the Women's Forum. It has even gotten to the point that I barely comment in the other threads unless I see something that catches my eye. Anyhoo, welcome back and I hope to hear more from you.

I've had a bit of a stressful day. My best friend came over highly upset because early this morning when she got up, her son had his friends over. Now this is before 10 am and have been over the house for the past five days. And besides that, they had the tv loud. And my godson is pissed at me because I told her he was trying to have a New Years Eve party but the killer is the only way I knew was because I was on MySpace and saw it. Keep in mind the kid just had a party like a week ago. Is 20 years old, still in school, which is a good thing since he trying to finish, but has no job. He literally comes home from school and jumps on the computer to chat on Myspace or play Warcraft. Yeah, I do the same but difference is I have an income.

Suffice it to say, it got even uglier between me and him from there. And I have done more for him than his own Aunts or Grandmother has done for him. And what do I get when I tell him how disrespectful he is to his mother and that he should be out looking for a job instead of sitting on his lazy ass.....I was called a bitch and told to suck his dick. Lovely, isn't it..... >:( Believe me this argument took place thru emails on MySpace, that part is funny to me. And for his sake it was a good thing it was because I would've probably been in jail tonight.

Do I think he'll have the party, maybe, maybe not but I don't see my bf giving him the ultimatum of getting his shit together or get out. All I know is that I will no longer be calling her house or visiting. And I am definitely thru with him. I mean he disrespected in a way my son never would because he knows better. But it also taught me a lesson, I will start putting myself first before other people. Especially when it is not appreciated.

Excuse the rant but I am heated......still....... >:( >:( >:( >:(

Hey Veritee! Nice to hear from you again. I hope things are going well for you.

Jenny- YUCK! I hate it when I get sick. At least you didn't feel too bad.

Queen- I'm sorry you had a falling out with your godson. You know how it is when you are 20...you know everything. It sounds like he is just immature. Don't let it get you down... :)

Well this morning I was woken up 5am to the lovely sound of my dog throwing up. Great. I don't know what made her stomach upset but she obviously wasn't feeling well. After I cleaned it up we got back into bed. Poor thing just wanted to sleep all morning.

I went to lunch with a teacher friend of mine which was nice. She is a kindergarten teacher and before this year kinder was only part day so we, the 5th grade teachers, always saw her at lunch, but this year kinder went full day and now her lunch is at a different time and we hardly get to see each other. We had a lot to catch up on. Tomorrow I'm going shopping with another friend of mine and then Wednesday I have an appointment at the dentist. Oh joy! This is the first time I've gone since being diagnosed and I'm a little nervous about having to fill out the paperwork. I always worry about what they'll think.

I don't have anything planned for New Year's.  ::) Maybe something will come up. Have a good night ladies!

Thank you so much for welcoming me back, I am so glad you are all still here.

As an update it has been a difficult time with a lot to adjust to. I was only diagnosed in Jan 08 and only on meds since about April/Mayish - can't even remember when right now. I threw myself into HIV activism and voluntary support work as I was appalled at how little there is for women with HIV especially in the area I live

 - so I started the first and only HIV women's support group in my area of the UK and became a regional coordinator for my area for a UK Group called PozFem: http://www.poz-fem-uk.org/
and have worked as hard as I can for them voluntarily and gone to conferences etc which involved travelling and I am still involved in running a charity I founded on another issue - Post natal Illness - and travelled by plane to our annual meeting just before Xmas. The plane trip was only an hour with a couple of hours by car to the airport and an hour the other side, but on that trip I began to feel very ill and tired and realised I had been doing too much and I am not ready as yet to travell as much. As travelling is something I do not find easy and causes me great stress and I need to take it easy.

I have been ill ever since - only a flu bug but somehow I just can not recover from it after nearly 3 weeks I still feel really ill and have days I can not get out of bed - which is really not me as I NEVER stay in bed or sleep in the day

I also worry that despite being on Atripla and tolerating it fairly well and being now undetectable my CD4s have gone down not up and are now 200 - my husband thankfully despite having a CD4 of only 9 is now feeling very well with a CD4 of 270, which is a good thing.
I guess its early days with the medication as yet and it will take some time to get a CD4 of over 300 which is my hope?

But due to feeling ill Christmas was not good and my mother had a stroke on boxing day so is in hospital

Sorry to be negative - I am not actually negative in myself however as I am enjoying having my husband with me and not at sea for the first time in over 20 years of marriage, although it is a pity he is home due to having HIV but it is still lovely to at last have time with him and I have started doing art again for the first time in years - so mentallly I feel good but I  just do not feel well.

I also had had a bit of good news as my daughter just got a fantastic job as a chef - she is only 19 but is a qualified chef has worked doing this since she was 16 and is very ambitious - Her new job that she starts on Monday in a top London restaurant run by a top Michelin star UK chef, Gordon Ramsey at Claridges. This is what she wanted and she has worked very hard for it, so I am so pleased for her.

To get a job like this at only 19 and in London which is over 250 miles from where we live is really a great achievement

Now I have caught up I will try to reply to others next time as it is 3am in the morning here I find sleep difficult some nights when I have been ill in bed in the day, but hope you are all OK

PS Jenny
I hate it when I get sick too, I am phobic about vomiting so it is my worst nightmare
But there is a lot going round this winter where I am and maybe where you are too?
I have been ill for weeks and my daughter threw up all Christmas night - poor thing and poor you.
I hope you and your children are all OK now

Veritee- That is great news about your daughter. I know who Gordon Ramsey is...I've seen him on TV  :). I'm sorry that you are sick. Your CD4 may take a while to go up. When I was diagnosed I had pneumonia and a count of 15. I have been on Atripla for 19 months and my count has finally gone up to around 600. It takes time...hang in there! You sure are quite the activist! Don't overextend yourself and listen to your body.

Getting ready to take my dog to daycare and go hang out with my friend. Have a great day everyone!

Hey ladies,

Andrea, it is nice to not be in the snow.  Yesterday here it was in the 70's; so much different from where I live, where it's only in the 30's right now.  Ugh.  I hope you have fun with your teacher friend.

Snow, that's great news about the court date.  I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Queen, I'm sorry all that stuff happened with your godson.  Best probably to not talk to him right now, especially when there's stuff going on between him and his mom.  I can't believe he said that to you though, how disrespectful.  I hope you get to feeling better and that your sleep schedule gets back on track.

Jenny, I hope you're feeling better.

Veritee, it's so good to hear from you, I was wondering what happened to you.  I hope you feel better also (lots of people not feeling well right now).  Congrats to your daughter for getting that chef job.  That's great news.

I think I got everyone; if I missed anyone, I apologize.   I'm having a really good time here.  Yesterday myself, my sister and niece went and visited my sister's stepson in his group home.  Then we went to this fabulous Italian/Greek restaurant, then went to see Slumdog Millionaire, which I can't recommend enough.  It is really a good movie.  I saw the actor who played the guy that won the money interviewed on the Today show about a month ago.  He really is from the slums in one of the cities in India.

Today I think we're going to a Native American museum and to See's Candy store.  I'm going to eat breakfast in a few minutes.  It's so nice to be out of the cold/snow for now.  I'm leaving Friday, of course depending on the weather back home I suppose.  I miss my cat, but one of my friends is taking care of her.  My sister has two cats, but one of them is very leery of people.

I'm like Queen, I'm addicted to these women's threads.  And I don't comment a lot in other parts of the forum, unless I'm interested in what's being talked about.  This is really like my women's support group and all you ladies mean a lot to me.  Have a good one.

BT-Sounds like an awesome time. I am so envious. You are right, the weather here is crappy (remember, I am not too that far away from ya). For a minute yesterday I thought I might be able to let the girls ride their new bikes. The sun was out all day and a mild 50 something degrees but by the time I got home and the sun was down it was too cold. I should have never bribed them yesterday morning that if they got out of bed promptly and without temper tantrums I would let them ride them. Oh the joys of toddlerhood. Anyway, I am sure your cat misses you too. Tht is good that you have someone to look after her. I hope the weather cooperates for your trip home. Enjoy the rest of your time!!

Hi all

Its obviously not as cold here as it is for most of you as while in the part of the UK I live it is very cold at present - the coldest winter we have had for years, but it is not snowing as I live in Cornwall where the climate is warmer than most of the UK, not by much but enough to mean it never snows here. I wish we did have snow as we never do and when I lived elsewhere in the UK we did and I loved the snow

Thank you all for the congratulations about my daughters new job and that some know who Gordon Ramsey is - he also has a famous restaurant in NYC  too - So it is great she has the job .........................but I have had a real panic the last day or so arranging accommodation she can move into in London by Saturday as I have not been well and London is over 250 miles from where we live - but I have found a nice woman I met when she was on holiday here ( I live in a holiday/beach/surfing area and let out a small flat) who lives in London who is my age who can give her a room.

Thank you so much for your assurances Queen, BT, vivyt  and welcome back I have spent much time being addicted to forums myself but as I founded a charity that runs a forum: http://veritee.proboards7.com/ I have to spend a lot of time there still as I am relied upon as I am the main administrator on that forum ,  So while I need this forum more personally than the one I founded as I have HIV and Post Natal Illness was a long time ago for me, I know I can not come on here as much as I would like due to that commitment - so I am glad it is OK for me to come here when I can?

I have replied to you in a PM Jenny as we share some things and this Christmas was a nightmare - my daughter vomited all night Christmas night and while she is a lot older - 19  - it still upsets me so much when she is ill like that and I have been sick too as yes there are loads of bugs around here at the moment and I have had flu and been sick and in fact have not felt or been well for about 4 weeks now

I am glad you are having such a good time BT and that you have your court date Snow

I am on a different time from most of you as it is now 11pm here and I have been up since 3am due to not being well so I am off to bed with a hot water bottle soon

So I will see you in the morning if I can
Love to you all

Veritee

Betty- Good to hear from you. I figured you must me having a good time since you haven't been posting that often... ;D The weather you're having is what we have here in California. Don't you just love it?? I could NEVER live where it gets so cold. I am a California girl born and bred! LOL!

I had a good day today. Hung out with my friend, had some lunch, and did some shopping. Now I am tired!

I'll talk to you ladies later.

Mini is sick again.  I spent 3hrs with her at the doctor's office - another double ear infection.  She was complaining about being dizzy and feeling like she was going to fall down.  She also said her head hurt between her eyes and at the base of her skull.  I thought it was a sinus infection - WRONG!  In 3 wks, she's had: pneumonia, 3 ear infections, sinus infection, and strep.  I hate this virus! >:(

Oh mum, I am so sorry. I guess kids do often have it worse when bugs go around as for kids they more often lead to bacterial infections while for healthy adults this happens less often- well Caja's bugs often did - but with HIV it obviously is much worse ....and far more worrying, it must be so worrying for you.

so my thoughts are with you and all I can do is wish you all loads of better luck for 2009 and I do hope she is well again soon

Morning ladies,

Jenny, I remember that you live not far from me, but I can't remember where you said.  Are you in Indiana?

Veritee, of course it's alright that you're only here when you can be.  It's always good to hear from you.

Andrea, my sister actually has mentioned a few times that she would like me to live out here. It would be nice, but not for awhile (until I'm finished with school, have worked awhile etc.).  I do really like this weather, but I also know what it's like here in the summer, when it reaches 110+.  I suppose people get used to running from the air conditioned house to the air conditioned car though. ;D

Mum, I am so sorry about Mini's new infection.  Please give her a hug and kiss from me.  I hope this is the end of things.

Today I think we're just visiting different people.  My sister's foster son, who I haven't seen in about 27 years, and a couple of my sister's friends.  Tonight I believe we're just going to go through pictures (ones that were at my parents') and celebrate here, probably watching the ball drop.  I'm not one to be out around drunk people (duh).  Back home NA is having a function that I would go to if there.  That's alright, there's always next year.

Anyone got any plans for tonight?

I hope everyone has a happy new year. Following southern tradition I am making black eyed peas, corn bread, cabbage and ham.

Black eyed peas are suposedly for good luck because they swell when cooked -- a sure sign of prosperity. Cabbage is green for wealth like money is green. corn bread is golden also for wealth plus the peas taste better with corn bread. The hog is considered lucky because it symbolizes prosperity.

I know different places have traditional meals for new years. I read in Italy it is sausage and lentils, in Greece its a cake with a coin in it, in Mexico they eat 12 grapes at the stroke of midnight, each grape signifying one month of the upcoming year. If the grape for the respective month is sweet, they'll expect a good month… if it's sour, a bad one.

Mum- Did the doctor say what is causing all of these infections in Mini? I know the virus keeps us more susceptible, but she sure is being hit hard. I hope she feels better soon.

Betty-  :) When do you return home?

Wendy- Are you having a dinner party or is that just for you and your man?

I just came back about an hour ago from the dentist.  :( Not the way I wanted to spend the day. I went for just a regular check-up (new dentist) and ended up having problems. The only issue I have with my teeth is a crown that was put on about 10 yrs. ago because of an old filling I had that had cracked. Well...that was the last time I went to the dentist, yeah I know I am BAD! I just never really had any problems with my teeth so I thought I was ok. So....the x-rays looked find but when the doctor did the exam she saw that my crown had an area that was allowing bacteria to get under it and she causing a cavity underneath and the 2 teeth on either side showed the beginning of cavities. What she decided to do was try a treatment that is fairly new that could stop the cavities from forming and just do a cleaning. She wanted to replace the crown but just didn't have the opening. Well, asked if I could wait for a cleaning and since I had not eaten yet she told me to go eat and come, so I did. When I got back she let me know that a patient canceled and she would be able to do my crown so I said yes. Fast forward to the procedure...a closer look told her that the two cavities were actually much worse then she thought and she would have to fill those along with replacing the crown... :o 3 hours later and MANY injections of Novocaine I was done. When I looked at myself one side of my mouth was totally curved down like a stroke victim and the doctor said I was VERY swollen. UGHHH! 3 teeth right in a row were traumatized! I said I am worried about the pain I am going to have once the Novocaine wore off since it was hurting during the procedure. She said to definitely take Motrin before the Novocaine wore off and stay away from hard, sticky, or chewy foods...no kidding. So here I am annoyed with myself because if I had been seeing the dentist on a regular basis none of this would have been a problem. It seems like anything medical with myself I just let go. In 2009 I am going to work on that.  :) :) Needless to say, I don't have plans for this evening.

HAVE A HAPPY AND SAFE NEW YEAR!

Thanks for all the well wishes for the Wee One.  She says she feeling a bit better today.  She's a bit more active and her appetite wasn't hurting a bit - she ate 4 boneless chops, yellow rice, and carrots for lunch :o   This round seems easier for her to handle than the last one.  At least now it's "just" a double ear infection and not compounded with all the other stuff.

Andrea, Doc is clueless and at this point, her only purpose seems to be pissing me off.  I'm still waiting for her to return my phone calls from September.  She's the only PID in the state and insurance won't pay for us to take her out of state.  I can only keep doing what I've been doing and pray that one day she'll actually listen (and DO somethign)

Betty, I'm glad you're having a great time with your sister.  Enjoy your vacation - it's well deserved.

Veritee, this is the 1st time Mini's been really sick like this since being u/d (6 1/2yrs).  Lots of memories of  our 5 month stint in the hospital when no one expected us to bring her home keep sneaking in.  I thought they were extinct, but in those quiet moments, they are still constant reminders.

Wendy, when we lived in South Louisiana, mom always cooked beans, porkchops, cabbage, and cornbread on new year's day.  Tomorrow I'm making turkey...lol...it just seems appropriate for us.

My mom and brother came over for dinner.  Dad left Monday for work - hoping he'll be back in 2wks.  Then, we played Disney Trivial Pursuit.  Hubby and #2 were a team and won.  It was a ton of fun.  After, we watched "Shanghi Knights" (fast forwarding past a few parts and muting others).  Now with about 50 minutes to go, the kids are in bed and I'm heading there myself.

My wish is for 2009 to pour out showers of grace, hope, joy, and peace to each and every one of you.

Morning Ladies---

Happy New Year and thus the countdown begins...11 days til I turn 40... ;D What's new so far is a few gray hairs coming in... ;D But despite the soap opera like drama that has been swirling around me, I am grateful to still be here. My sister put quarters in all her windows, she said that is suppose to draw money to you for the new year. I'll just do my Pagan thing and do a money spell. Ewww, I hate black eye peas or any type of beans for that matter. And has never in my life cooked cornbread.

I didn't do anything for New Year as in going out, I just spent a quiet night at home playing Warcraft. But I would be Queen of the Green if I didn't spark one to bring in the New Year.... ;D

Mum-- Glad the Wee One is feeling much better. I know I have been having a little vertigo lately too. But I am wondering if it is because I have lost more of my hearing in my right ear. If I make a sudden move to my right, I get the spins real bad for a minute.

That's about it for me...Happy New Years...

So very glad your little one is feeling better mum

- it is always so very worrying with small ones . I can not begin to imagine what it is like to have a child with HIV but my own daughter was born in 1989 with a heart problem and had many bugs etc due to it so it was very touch and go for some years - so I might have some small idea what you are going through

But so much hope it is resolving itself now

__________________________
Probably had HIV since 2003 but did not know exactly - but it was around 2003 my husband put himself at risk
Husband diagnosed with AIDs/PCP Jan 08- his CD4s was 9
Diagnosed myself Jan 08 CD4 less than 200 but very small virus load of only 250 - but I was atil quite unwell just the same
Started meds April 08 - on Atripla now
May 08 CD4-230
August 08 CD4-260
Nov 08 CD4 200 - undetectable
Worried why aren't my CD4s going up??? considering I have always had a very low virus load and am now undetectable I do not understand why I still feel so totally crap and my CD4s have not gone up?

Morning ladies,

Wendy, those are interesting stories about how other cultures eat on New Year's Eve.

Andrea, I'm supposed to be flying home tomorrow, weather permitting.  I used to have tons of trouble with my teeth.  I always had rotten teeth.  When I was 24, I got them pulled out (what wasn't knocked out) and got dentures.  The dentist office actually could never make the bottom ones right, so all I have are top ones (yep, no bottom teeth).  I still eat fine; I just can't eat anything crunchy (like nuts) or real chewy (like caramels).  I eat steak, etc.  Teeth are such a necessary evil.

Mum, I'm so glad Mini is feeling a bit better.  It does seem that she's gotten quite a bit lately.  Maybe it's because her immune system's down and she's around someone else who's sick?  Anyway, I hope you all are enjoying your New Year's Day.

Queen, welcome to 40.  I'm actually going to be 44 this year.  So far the 40's have been good, because they've taught me to focus more on what's important in life and to let go of unnecessary shit.

Veritee, I can't give you an answer as to why your CD4's haven't gone up, except sometimes when they're as low as yours, it can take years for them to reach above the 300-500 range.  In 1994, my CD4s were "4" and it took, I don't remember how many years (maybe 9) before they got above 400.  Now they're doing well, though I couldn't tell you the exact number without being home and pulling out my labs.  If you're really concerned, you should probably talk to your doctor.

Last night was quiet.  My sister gave me a mini massage and we looked at old pictures.  At midnight, we celebrated with a glass of sparkling cider.  It was strange, because when it was midnight here, it had already been midnight two hours previously where I live.

Tomorrow I'm flying back home, providing the weather cooperates.  I can't believe I'm actually leaving 70-degree weather to go back into the 20-degree hell.  I suppose that's the price I pay for living where I am.  Every place has pluses and minuses.  I like where I live, just not four months of the year when it gets freezing.  Would I like it here? Hell yeah.  But I've also been here when it's reached above 110F, and that's extremely uncomfortable.  There's a lot to see and do here, though.  Maybe someday, awhile after I graduate and have worked part-time for awhile.  The other thing that gets me about here is that you have to go on a freeway to get about anywhere.  I suppose people get used to that though.

Well, my niece is flying home today, I need to start packing, and get my shit together.  It's almost 1:00 p.m. my time and I still haven't taken a shower. ;D  Have a good one ladies.

Just moved from one forum to this one.
Hi
I should reintroduce myself i'm a young black female from South Africa. Question. Did any of you feel like chucking everything in your lives and starting over again? I keep wondering what i' supposed to do with my life now. i wake up every morning with this thing that i'm running out of time but forthe life of me feel panicky about what to do next. Didnt really like my life, not that it has changed in the last month.

I never actually discussed the issue of how i got infected, not angry at anyone but feel stupid that i let it happen. i cannot undo or go back, not thta i would want to - havent had a great history in the love life department --- it's sad, really, never had that "great love". Would love to be swept off my feet, crazy in love

I tried to do the usual New year's resolution thing but i keep having to have daily resolutions, broken down into hours and sometimes minutes, cant handle much more than that.

Hi Jade! Welcome. I am sure everyone has felt like starting over. Did you just find out you were infected? I was diagnosed in May of 2007. It does get better. The ladies here are just wonderful and I am sure you will enjoy talking to them

Betty- Even though the weather is bad, it's always nice to come back home. I'm sure your cat misses you... :)

I'm just checking in. Not much to report. Have a good day!

Welcome Jade. Presently I am very happy with my life but there have been times in my past where I wish I could change it all.

No dinner party here. Just me and Billy. We stayed up and watched the ball drop in Times square then went to bed. I don't ever go out on New Years. I lack the desire to go to bars or act like a fool in public. I'll save that for family and friends. LOL ;D

Plus I dont like the idea of being on the roads. Too many idiots out there...

Good evening everyone,

Happy New Year to you all!  I hope it brings a lot of good developments our way.  Today I'm feeling reflective, as my baby turned 7 today.  It seemed like just yesterday that she joined the family at 5 years old.  How fast they grow!  Now she's grown so much, gained weight, and has been maintained an undetectable viral load for over a year!  We are on our way to take her for a birthday/New Year's dinner at an Ethiopian restaurant and movie of her choosing-Bedtime Stories.  Hopefully we like it better than the last movie we watched (Marley and Me).

Mum-Sending healing thoughts your way, Mum, for your pretty little girl.

Welcome Jade.  I like the idea of partial resolutions; seems like it'd be easier to adhere to that way.

BT-Good luck with the traveling!

Queen-I felt the same way when I turned 30...it seemed like such a milestone, but I wasn't sure how to view it.  But my 20's sucked so much I was happy for the change after a while.

Winiroo-Your holiday treat photos have been making my mouth water!

Have a good day everyone!

This New Year brings such a mixture of emotions and thoughts for me, some good some not as I guess it will for us all.

It was a at Christmas last year my husband got really ill and New Years Day when I finally realised that something was very wrong with the both of us so now I know what it is and have lived with it for almost a year - diagnosed Jan 08 I am hoping that this year brings more acceptance of living with HIV and more understanding of how to do so. I am glad we have successfully got our first year of life with HIV over, that we are both still alive and in relative health.

It is not necessarily going to be a happy year but I will do my best to make it constructive. It will be sad because I will lose my mum this year, I wanted to share about my mum.

I love my mum dearly, she has been a wonderful mum to have, but she is the only person I am close to who does not know about my HIV as she has been too ill and for too long to tell her or to understand, is currently dying in hospital.

We were asked yesterday if we wanted any more medical intervention, we don't, so they think that without she will live another week to four weeks. But they are not giving the decision entirely to the family and if they decide to offer further medical intervention she could linger for a few months. We so hope they don’t, but as the intervention is whether to feed her by tube and if they don’t she will effectively starve to death, as she is completely unable to do anything for herself or swallow anything, nor talk or make her wishes known in any way. The only reason she is alive now is they are giving her fluids by drip, but her heart is quite strong so if they do feed her too she will not die quickly.

We want her to die quickly, she would not want this, but the decision is not entirely ours, but her doctors -  so all we can do is wait now.

She will die never knowing about my HIV, and as we are a family that always have shared everything with each other good and bad and never have secrets from each other, I am not sure if this is a good or bad thing.
On the one hand what is the point of her knowing if she had of been able to understand at all a since I was diagnosed, which she has not .................

On the other she would have very much wanted to know this about her eldest daughter. Of course there is no possibility now anyway of sharing this with her and due to her illness there never has been, but it is sad somehow for me that I could not share such a big thing in my life with my mum when I have shared every other thing, all my life, big or small, good or bad, with her and she with me - I hope that makes sense?

Anyway I am just hoping for her a quiet and easy death, she deserves at least that. Her life was never easy and at times some of that was down to me.
Sorry to start the year on such a sad note

But it is not actually sad that her end is this near as she would not have wanted to live how she has for the past couple of years and it will be a relief for us all - and I know her - when she dies

Life goes on, she will help my daughter by her last act of dying as she has left her in her will a small but useful bit of money which as she is starting a wonderful new job/career and life in the big city - London - on Saturday it will come at the right time as she will really be able to use it well to set herself up in some decent accommodation - good accommodation is difficult in London and you need huge deposits for the most humble of places to live and a lot more if it is decent
So my mum would be so happy to know that when she dies the money she leaves my daughter, her grandchild, while it is not much, will be so helpful to her

So on that more happy note of my daughters life is going on and she is doing well and thus a good thing for our family as the next generation are all coming up to my daughters age now and their time has come, ours has been.

So I hope everyone had a good New Years Evening and just wanted to wish everyone a great new year to come.
 Veritee x

Happy New Year's + a day to all my sweeties!

Betty, here's to safe travels.  I know what you mean about the weather changes.  Hubby and I grew up in south Lousiana - home of shorts and t-shirts year 'round.  As I got older, I couldn't stand the heat, or the crime, or the pollution, or the mob.  Up here, especially in the teeny town we live in, there's not much to do, but not much of the other "stuff" either.  The cold weather doesn't bother me so much as long as we're not snowed in for weeks at a time and the heat of the summer is NOTHING compared to the south.  You're right, though, every place has its pros and cons.

I'm not sure what's up with Mim.  She's not been around anyone who's been noticably sick.  Of course, the doc's office mixes well and sick people, so who knows what kind of cooties she was exposed to waiting to see the doctor.  She's not scheduled to see her PID until March, but I have her lab slips and will take her after this round of antibiotics to have them done.  Her t-cells have been on a steady decline, but still in the 900's, since the summer, and I want to make sure they're not continuing to drop.

Queen, happy early 40!  I'll be 36 in a month and the age thing has never bothered me (mainly because I married an "older"man..lol..I'm guaruntted to always be younger than somebody)

Sherri, thanks for your kind words.  I remember when we got the phone call that Mini was undetectable 2 days before her adoption was final.  She's been u/d now for 6 1/2 years (just turned 8 in Aug.).  Those first 21mths were long and hard and not something I want to ever go back to.  The good thing is that she was young and doesn't remember any of it.  The bad thing is, I'll never forget any of it.

Wendy, I'm with you, hun.  We spent the evening at home.  I'm not one for bars or fancy parties.  I don't like to be anywhere late at night where I can't wear my flannel jammies and fuzzy slippers.  Yesterday (1/1), we went grocery shopping and Walmart was empty - in the middle of the afternoon!

Mim seems to be doing better and isn't complaining about being dizzy anymore.  I'm glad we caught these ear infections earlier than the last ones.  I've made an appointment to see her ENT and discuss wether or not he wants to put tubes back in her ears.  I've forgotten what the "rule" is as to how many infections she "needs" to have before tubes are considered.  So far, she's had 3 in 3wks.

On another note, our youngest daughter goes back to the eye and ear specialists later this month.  The fear is that she's beginning to lose vision in her left eye and more vision in her right.  We're worried that she's beginning to lose her hearing in her left ear as well (already lost hearing in her right ear and most of her vision in her right eye).  Our lives are a never a never ending saga.

Kids around here start back to school today.  Not sure how many will actually show up, though.  I figure it will depend how many parents have to go back to work.  We're not going to start until Monday.  I just don't see the point in having a day of school, then 2 days off.  Before Christmas, kids had to go until the 23rd (Tues), and teachers actually had to show up for work on the 24th.  Our last day was the 19th (Friday).  I've got tons to do to get ready for Monday.  I usually spend part of our break re-vamping curriculum.  This year, I've done nothing.  I have stuff for them to do, just need to figure out the legistics of it all.

I hope all of you have a wonderful Friday and a terrific weekend!
Mum

Hey ladies,

I just wanted everyone to know I made it back safely.  It sure isn't 70+ degrees here (it's 17F right now).  My cat is extremley joyous.

I'll answer everyone individually tomorrow (I know I usually do that, too tired right now).  Have a good snooze everyone.

vivyt Hope your mouth feels better now - I have neglected my teeth at times, it is the one thing that here in the UK that you always have to pay for treatment - you do not have to pay for basic medical care as what you pay out on National Insurance pays for this but you do pay for basic dentistry, as National Insurance used to include dentistry but now is does not fully as it got too expensive for the state to pay and so many put it off as we can not afford it - so I understand what it is like to have a lot of work all at once and hate the dentist - so hope its OK now?

I hope mum that your younger daughters sight is OK - my mum is blind has been blind since we were kids, my sister and brother have sight problems - brother has lost a lot of his vision and can not drive etc , so I know how scary anything to do with sight is although mine is OK I have lived with a family with sight worries

Do you know what is causing her sight and hearing difficulties?

Glad you made it home alright Betty - aren't cats great in the way they welcome you.

Are you OK keepingfaith? I have not been sleeping either but I know with me its because of my mums situation - but is their any particular reason you can not sleep?

As usual I am on here again when I guess most others are sleeping!  its about 8am here, so when you wake up I hope you all have a good Saturday

WELCOME HOME, BETTY!!  I know Poppy is happy to see you again.  I'm glad you had a great trip.

Veritee, I have my suspecions about what's causing all her issues, but of course, I'm just mum and don't know what I'm talking about (according to the "all-knowing" doctors >:()    I believe she has a condition called prophyria but can't get a doctor to test her for it.  We're interviewing another doctor the middle of next week that works a lot with special needs kids.  He came recommended, so we'll see what happens.

Wishing, good to see you, hun!

Morning ladies,

Jade, I'm so glad you joined us here.  Within the past three years I made major changes in my life (and I'm 43, so never too old).  I was pretty hooked on prescription medication (opiates, tranquilizers, amphetamines, sedatives), did a total detox, and went back to school to finish a degree.  I think people should think carefully about making major changes, get different opinions and weigh everything out.  But, it's never too late.

Andrea, my cat was very happy to see me.  How's your mouth feeling?

Wendy, I'm not into bars either.  People who are sloppy drunk annoy me.

Sheri, good to hear from you.  Give your little one who just had a birthday a hug from me.

Veritee, I'm so sorry about your mum.  I lost mine in August of 2007 and it was one of the hardest experiences I've gone through.  I still cry at times.  My mum and I were very close.  I wish peace for your mum in her final days.

Mum, I'm glad Mini seems to be doing better.  Please keep us updated on the tubes issue.  I'm so sorry about the youngest daughter.  I hope she retains the vision she has.  Please let us know about her as well and I'll be keeping her in my thoughts.

Keeping, what's up?

Yes, my cat was very happy to have me back.  She purred all night.

The trip back went well.  I had a three hour layover in Detroit, but it went fairly fast.  I had supper at a burger joint there which was very good.  I wish I could remember the name; it started with a "K."  The airport in Detroit is big, and they have a pretty tunnel that you walk through.  It changes colors on the inside and plays like ocean sounds.  I do miss Arizona and all the beautiful scenery (everywhere you go, you can see mountains in the distance), the temps, and of course my sister.  I know she's lonely.  For the past about 30 years, it's been her and special needs kids.  She has one now, who has spina bifida (and is also Navajo).  She might take on another child, not sure yet.  I really wish she could go back to school and do something she wants to do.  She has no insurance, even though she works for the state of AZ, no retirement etc.   Anyway, she has a lovely house.  And in her backyard there are hummingbird feeders all over.  I had never seen hummingbirds so closely before; they're really works of art.  So tiny.

Today I'm not sure what all I'll be doing.  I know I'm going to try to organize the stuff I brought back from Arizona.  I'll probably call my best friend and see what she's doing, maybe do lunch.  Not much else planned.  I hope you ladies all have a good day.

I looked up prophyria - I had not heard of it before but  in my view for what it is worth from my very limited knowledge and perspective and from a different country ...........

keep on at them - mums always know their children best so if you feel she may have this all I can say is keep trying for an actuate and definitive diagnosis. Mums do know best - always !!!!!

I am sorry you have not even a proper diagnosis

I go on about the lacks in UK health system but as far as diagnosis,  it is very good - if they do not know they will keep at it until they know what it is you have.

As apart from HIV -  which you will not get a diagnosis of unless you ask for a test and you do not always know to ask - this is because they have rules here about not assuming HIV unless the person themselves suspects it or feels they have a reason to suspect it -  for discrimination and stigma reasons .

But in everything else what you do get usually in the UK is a good and accurate diagnosis for everything.

 - However due to the constraints of the system you may not get the drugs you need to deal with your diagnosis as depending on what you have this is down to National Health Service guidelines about what drugs they can afford to pay out on through the National Insurance scheme and this is decided by NICE - National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence: http://www.nice.org.uk/

Which is an independent body which decides on what treatment the NHS can, or can not pay for.

There are good an bad things about our system compared to the US - but at least here I guess?????

We always usually get a proper diagnosis and our medical care is nationally the same for everyone and unless we are very rich and can pay a lot of money for private care, we all get the same access to what medication and treatment is allowed - we all get an accurate diagnosis - and they make sure they get that accurate diagnosis as far as possible

And if we need to take ourselves and our children to the doctor for anything we do not have to worry about money - because while most do pay into the NHS, this does not matter as even if you have never paid a penny in in your life,  you still get the same medical care as everyone else, especially for your children.

Sorry Mum whittled on again about the situation here which does not help you at all - sorry

All I can say is keep going to get an accurate diagnosis as while my own  eyes are OK except for older age long sight which is normal

 - so I only know about this through having a blind mum and siblings with sight problems  -

but most of my whole family apart from me has a congenial misshape of the eye which results in acute short sightedness to the point of blindness for some which gets worse with age -and also very early macular degeneration is in our family which my mum has too

but at least my siblings know exactly what is wrong and can make decisions about treatment and the future.

And I understand how scarey sight problems can be for you or your children. I lived with a blind mother most of my life and all in our family have feared blindness at one time or other

Keeping- Hey!

Well, my vacation is winding down.... :'( I go back on Monday and let me tell you, I did not do any of the work I thought I would. I guess I will be busy this weekend.

Mum- I can't believe that school started in your area yesterday and it ended on the the 23rd. Our last day was the 19th and we return 1/5. Although I am sure parents are counting down.

I'm am going to finish my coffee and maybe start working.

Hope the work went OK Vivut and you are now caught up! Are you a teacher?

I used to be before I was a youth worker and then for a while I lectured adults - I always found I had more work to do at home than while I was there really, and it did not suit me as I had too much to do at home so preferred my work only within work time. But I do not think I was a good or dedicated teacher and I guess you are

Betty, welcome home.  If you visited me, you'd find moutains everywhere, too ;D.  Of course, you wouldn't be escaping the tretuous weather.  Not sure if you need anything for school, but Staples is having a $1.00 sale starting today (Sunday).  It may be worth looking up on their website and seeing if there's anything you'll need.

Veritee, I could go on and on about the improper diagnosis and the whacked out reasoning that we've had to deal with over the last 11 1/2yrs.  It is completely true that doctors "practice medicine".

Viv, sounds like we had the same vacation plans..lol..and got about the same amount of work done.  I have stuff ready for tomorrow, but nothing is revamped the way I wanted it to be.  I went into it with the best of intentions and the worst of motivations.  You were also out the same time we took off.  I felt bad for the teachers who had to go to school on the 24th - and ALL requests for personal time off were rejected.  Here, the teachers get to vote on the callendar during the summer.  So, if that's the callendar they voted for, I don't see where they have room to argue.

Even on break we continued with some of our work - mainly reading.  Our 2 kindergarteners are reading like crazy and I was worried to give them a 2wk break from their lessons would cause some back-sliding.  Plus, they are the only kids I know who HATE the weekends because they don't have school. :-\  Our older ones, complete opposite (and a bit more normal)

We rented a couple of movies this weekend and have watched them both.  "Eagle Eye" wasn't too bad.  The premise was an old one, but it had enough action to keep me entertained.  "The Dutchess" was interesting and read like a 1700's soap opera, although it's based on a true story.  Good insight into life of the time, but not sure about the story line.  All in all, not a bad movie.

My brother came over yesterday to hang out.  He and my mom will drive to Pittsburgh tonight and stay in a hotel.  His plane leaves early on Monday morning.  They'll be over sometime this afternoon to drop off my parents' dog, Ginger, for us to babysit.  Other than that and church, we have no real plans for today.  We'll probably end up at Staples, but I'm not in the mood to drive into town.

Have a great Sunday!
Mum

Morning ladies,

Andrea, I would love to go visit my sister again, just not sure when that will happen.  My school starts tomorrow also, but of course I'm not teaching.  Good luck.

Veritee, don't worry about what time it says you're posting.  We don't care; we love ya no matter what time it says. :)

Mum, I saw the Staples ad in the paper this morning.  I already have everything I need though.  I hope you're able to get some free time today.

I have piles on my floor in the living room of papers, papers, and more papers.  I went to Kmart yesterday and bought a couple small plastic shelves to try to shove these papers onto and put somewhere else.  The floor really does look messy, and I have to do something about it before it drives me crazy.  I want to take my Christmas stuff down also.  There's not much to take down luckily.  I didn't put up a tree this year since I wasn't here, and there's really no kids here or anyone else.

I was going to go see Doubt yesterday, but it was so cold outside.  I should be used to the cold, but I guess I'm going to have to get back into it gradually.  It's like a shock to the system.  I do want to see that movie though.  If anyone hasn't seen it yet, Slumdog Millionaire is an excellent one.  You'd think where I live, since there are quite a few universities, there would be more good movies here, but no.  I'm waiting to see if they bring Milk here, which I'm dying to see.  Even when the good movies are here, they don't stay long.

Other than cleaning, I have nothing else planned for today.  I hope you ladies have a good one.
