Help with Greek translation
« on: July 25, 2017, 08:28:27 pm »
My partner and I moved to Greece from america, temporarily. . Partner is HIV+. The doctors here, private, have great English but are amazed my partner is not on 'vital exalisis'. And shows us bright red pills. We are so confused. To the point when we might even consider flying home for a check up etc. anybody have any idea or can shed some light on this? What are they and should we consider.  Thanks in advance.

I am not sure I understand so just to clarify.

The Greek doctors have asked your partner to start taking red pills and you are unsure what they are?

What is the name of the red pills or do you have a picture of them? Does the pill itself have a number or identifier stamped on it?
Did you check the pill identifier?  https://www.drugs.com/pill_identification.html

Is it anything listed in this chart?

To be honest depends what you are taking it for? I presume the doc thinks it will help with the immune system. Very limited "modern" evidence of that benefit that said can't hurt if taken as directed as far as i know, get the vitamin levels up and all.

Personally not a great believer in them,  I do admittedly take some vitamins, like "D" not due to my HIV but just because i live in Ireland and half the year the sun don't shine  ;)

When in Greece, maybe do NOT as the Greeks.  My Swiss HIV specialist - professor and researcher - specifically said coenzyme Q10 and all anti-oxident supplements were a no no and could possibly "feed" cancer cells.  I kid you not.

So, I guess it depends on where you live - standard medical wisdom does vary across countries, that is for sure!
