Spring/ Summer / Fall 2008 Lipo Travels - Roll Call
« on: January 15, 2008, 11:22:51 pm »
Alright,...Italy,...Brazil,...Mexico,...Argentina,...which Doctor?

Some of us are going back for a second treatment ....others are nervous about our first PMMA treatment and would enjoy having a "buddy" to help them through the loops.

I'm not a travel organizer.  However, I personally need to head out to Brazil for my second treatment and find that the experience is a lonely experience ...which honestly shouldn't be.

There are constraints, i.e.  Doctors are human beings too and may not be into group "things" (get your mind out of the gutter please).  In addition to that, experienced doctors have problems convincing their "international clientele" that others they have taught their techniques to (and are fully qualified) can do this too.

So how do we match all those beautiful people in a professional yet fun way?  I ask you all the question?

The aim of this post is simply to have us all discuss and assess whether there is an "unfullfilled" market need ....the supply side...too!

Let's start with a roll call.....are you planning for PMMA work in 2008?  Which quarter? (winter/summer/fall)...1st or 2nd time?  Are you looking to combine this with vacation ?  Would you like to meet new friends in doing so?  Would you like to know more from others who went through PMMA before?

I know this sounds tacky.....but heck guys....I feel the need is there.

Let's all discuss & share.

Pep2 :)

An excellent post and an excellent idea, actually. Nothing tacky about your post, Pepino2.
Forturnately...or unfortunately....I'm done putting plastic underneath my skin. If I get to looking haggardly again--well a beard will be the order of the day.
But it's a good call for those who are interested!

Hi Pepino,

Great post!  I'm planning on PMMA treatment this year, in either the first or second quarter.  Have been trying to schedule an appointment with Dr. Serra in Rio for early April, but communication is extremely difficult.  My e-mails go largely unanswered, so I can't say for sure when I'll actually be going.  Would love to have company, though, so if anyone is interested in seeing Rio in the spring, please let me know.

So many people are going out of the country for treatments.  Are the procedures better / cheaper outside the US?  Or, are there no alternatives here?  Just curious as Mini is a little young yet.

Hi Mum,

The treatments may not be better outside of the U.S., but they are a hell of a lot cheaper.  The filler PMMA has been approved for use in the U.S. under the brand name Artefill, and the doctor who did my Sculptra treatments has started using it.  The problem for me is that I simply can't afford it in the quantities I need for a "full" treatment.  I can't recall exactly how much Artefill costs, but my recollection is that it's something like $1,200 per vial.

As for quality, I've heard that Dr. Serra in Rio is excellent, and he's certainly the most experienced at performing filler treatments.  He's been doing it for eight or nine years by now.  With something like this, you want that kind of expertise.

With any luck, by the time Mini is ready for any of this, the price will have come down.

Hello Bobino and Minismum,

Just to share my experience, I mett Dr. Serra in November, 1st treatment (Epzicom/Susteva - 2 yrs - 40 yrs old).  I have always been pretty lean and therefore i must admit that this treatment may be simply the result of getting older and not necessarilly caused by the medication (ie. my father never had any cheeks either).  I want to be frank here.  I had 13.5 cc and it cost me $850.  Indeed the prices are way cheaper in latine america.  There is something in America that dedicates plastic surgery for the rish which is a scam ... I think.

Dr. Serra was teaching a japanese orgin Brazalian lady during my stay in SP (she owns here own clinic - and has mostly non hiv women as clientele base).  I wouldn't hesitate a second to go with her and could provide her contact to anyone upon Private message.

Bobino, perhaps we should touch base, as stated i need to go back shortly.  I definitely can get through to Marcio (Dr. Serra). Perhaps, if you are serious you can PM me too and I would be glad to help you and/or answer any questions you may have.  You must be serious about this though. You need to make up you mind first and be serious as to your willingness to follow through on such travels.

Thanks for your post guys.
This is indeed a journey.

I just got back the other day from my second treatment with Dr Serra and am very happy with my results on my face and buttocks.

I went with a group headed by Philip G who has posted here before and it was convenient to have a lot of the groundwork done ahead of time. I also liked having several people with the same condition to pal around with-- we understood intimately why we were there and it was friendly. English is not widely spoken in this part of town and it was good to have some things arranged beforehand.

He is organizing another trip 18-22 August an you can reach him at p461nyc@hotmail.com for more information.

Note of disclosure: I am not affiliated with either Philip or Dr Serra except as a patient.
