Do I have a right to this?
« on: October 11, 2020, 06:04:44 am »
My partner does not seem to want me involved in his treatment in any way.
Ive heard and seen info about it, but what sucks is he pushes me away
in these kinds of things.

I would and would have liked to have spoken with his hiv doctor about
his condition and any questions I may have.....

dont I have a right to do so? is this sort of thing bad?

Hiya,

Modified your post slightly, you already have a thread open regarding the risk question: https://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=74688.msg

About your partner, everyone's different. Have you spoken to your partner about attending a session with their doctor? Have you asked why you are being pushed away?

For me it's a private medical matter, so I can appreciate why some people don't want parrtners etc tagging along. Also, in what way do you want to be involved? End of the day it's just pop a pill or a few pills a day and a check-up ever 6 months.

I've never brought my partner with me, don't see the need for it. If my partner had medical questions about HIV they can call the clinic or their own GP, no need to attend my appointment.

Best, Jim

Your partner doesn't want you involved in his treatment.

Full stop. Respect boundaries and privacy.

If you need to educate yourself on HIV, that isn't his doctors responsibility. There are plenty of resources without taking their time.

No, you absolutely do not have the right to specific medical information on his condition or treatment.

well the thing is, i kinda beg to differ; i mean, imagine ending up positive myself because i believe someone's word, and not get the proof from a doctor themself, because as you say ive no right to answers?  i said nothing about sitting in on appointments. i want to find out the truth.

turns out i was wrong and im allowed answers to anything i like but
the holier than thou attitude i got here really pissed me off so i wont be involved with hiv anymore. its just one big shit show

So really what you want is access their medical information or confirming with their doctor that your partners VL is UD and no risk to you?

Asking their doctor for proof of his current VL will do no real good, as nobody can guarantee your partner will continue to take their meds. End of the day there is an element of trust and, if you choose to have condomless intercourse, it's simply  an acceptance of risk that comes with that trust & sex.

If you are uncomfortable with trusting your partner or are uncomfortable accepting the risk that comes with that, use condoms and/or PrEP as an additional HIV risk reduction for your peace of mind.

Cut the drama!

You posted a question seeking answers, you got two responses, you simply didn't like that nobody so far agrees you should have the rights to access his medical infomation. Get over it, not all people are going to agree with you in life.
