“Any approach that is going to require genetic engineering on a patient-by-patient basis is just utterly unrealistic in terms of the global epidemic,” said Dr. Robert Siliciano, professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins.

-- I just can't accept that.  If they can figure out a one-shot treatment that lasts a lifetime, a huge ramp up in production will drive costs down and make it available to the masses.  It'll certainly be more cost effective than staying on meds forever.

There is a thread that was posted about this and in it, the doctor said he would not do it to try to cure HIV because the risk was to high. If the bone morrow didn't take then any protection a person had would have been destroyed when subjecting the patient to high doses of radiation to do the morrow transplant. I'm sure if you ask some of the other guys would know where you could find it and read it. To scary.
