Im panicking
« on: August 22, 2021, 07:06:04 pm »
Hi, i hope everyone is doing well!!

I won't extend myself too michwith my post so what happened was: this Friday I tried hooking up with this guy I met on Grindr, I always use condoms btw, but this time while we were making out I felt his penis pressuring against my anus as if he was trying to put it in and I'm quite sure he was able to insert just the tip for a few seconds (I believe this practice is called dipping) before I recoiled and asked for condoms.
My anxiety is through the roof, this never happened before and I know it's impossible to determine in exact numbers how likely i am to seroconvert but I just want to know how risky this practice is and if I should resort to PEP. I'm really really scared bc my time for PEP is running out and if I'm not able to get it by monday how high or low are my chances of seroconverting.

note: I wasn't able to look for a PEP treatment this weekend bc I fell ill due to the side effects of my second astrazeneca shot
note2: sorry for my English :P

Hiya,

If there was condomless penetration, it's a potential HIV risk.

It sounds like that if condomless penetration did occur, it was only very brief and all in all, I would suspect you will be fine but, only testing can confirm that.

Test with a blood-drawn HIV antibodies test at 6 weeks post-incident, a non-reactive result at that time will rarely ever change. If you wish you can re-test at 3 months post-incident for peace of mind.

As for taking PEP over this incident, this is totally up to you. Please note if you are considering PEP you should start taking this as soon as possible after exposure starting no later than 72 hours post-exposure.

Here's what you need to know to avoid HIV infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions. Consider talking to your healthcare provider about PrEP as an additional layer of HIV protection going forward.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also, note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

Kind regards

Jim

Thank you so much for your reply Jim!

I hope I'm physically well enough by tomorrow to go and get PEP, I'll keep updating this post in the upcoming weeks

Thank you so much, again

I ended up getting PEP and finished the whole 28 days, as prescribed. The thing is im still panicking and extremely anxious bc I was only able to get PEP at approximately 50-60 hours post exposure, does the effectiveness of the treatment drop dramatically after the 48 hours mark ??

Hiya,

As mentioned, the sooner you can start the better, but anytime within that 72-hour window is highly effective.

If this was your only exposure then I expect a non-reactive result, but do test to confirm that. In the meantime live your life as normal, try not to focus or stress about it.

As you took PEP, test with a blood-drawn HIV antibodies test at 6 weeks post finishing PEP, a non-reactive result at that time will rarely ever change. Although, generally not needed, if you wish you can re-test at 3 months for peace of mind.
