I take a multivitamin made for folks over 50, which I am.

Aside from that, the only supplements I take are 6,000 mgs of fish oil for triglycerides and cholesterol, milk thistle for my liver and saw palmetto cause I'm a man who doesn't want prostate trouble if I can avoid it.

I have known a few people who have had testosterone injections or used the patches. They did it because they were diagnosed with low testosterone levels.

Serostim is a human growth hormone used for AIDS-related wasting.

Oxandrin is a weight gain supplement, right?

My only experience with any of the above is they are prescribed by a doctor for someone when a medical need is diagnosed.

None of these are something I would take unless I had some demonstrated medical need. Also, if I'm not mistaken, all of these are very expensive and are not covered by many insurance plans or other programs without prior approval and a lot of hoop-jumping.

Poz, are you having wasting problems, etc., that these particular treatments would address? These are medical treatments, not just supplements that should be added to your life without a good reason.

If you are worried about being thin but are not suffering from AIDS-related wasting, you might consider looking at your diet and exercise routines.

I was very thin for many years. I changed some things (I quit smoking for one) and gained 30 pounds.

Its just a thought.

HUGS,

Mark

i just wondered.  i have seen some really incredible bodies on poz guys and wonder how......many of them are on these supplements. I mean, why not?  yes they have side effects but so do all the HIV medications. why not look good if you can.  and, no, i am not having a problem with wasting.

Well, the fact you're not experiencing wasting is good news. Whew! That can be very debilitating.

I know what you mean about some guys having bods like Adonis. I never did. I don't know that I would want to add such things to my body if I didn't have to.

I personally think thin guys are really sexy, or at least some of them are.

Of course, I am rather an egalitarian when it comes to such matters. I tend to like all kinds, and because of this, never really wanted to change me to make me into something I wasn't. I hope that sounded half way coherent.

Anyway, if you really want to try any of the testosterone or growth hormone treatments, the first person to ask is your doctor. He or she will probably not be shy about giving you the pros and cons of such an adventure.

Good luck. Let us know if you decide to proceed with this and how it works out for you.

HUGS,

Mark

Anabolic substances do work to maintain weight, overcome fatigue, and to improve your overall quality of life.

MANY doctors are still unfamiliar with the medications and combinations of medications to help you.  Unfortunately, I sense that some doctors are getting their information from hysterical news reports and hysterical congressmen.

Your quest will not always be easy; but be persistent.   One site to start with, biased as it is, is www.elitefitness.com .  Check out their forum:  HIV and Supplements.   Also subscribe to the magazine:  Muscular Development   www.md.com (I think).

Hi, this thread was started last summer (not quite a "zombie thread" but getting there) , I'm not sure if this is still relevant to the OP.

Welcome to the forum btw
