GIRLFRIEND WORRID ABOUT INFECTION

Hi all, not been on here for a while but just got a quick question for you guys and gals.

I was diagnosed positive in October 2009 (prior to this my girlfriend and I had not had any form of sexual contack in at least 5 months we have not engaged in any sexual contact since I was diagnosed either) and at the same time my girlfriend had a rapid test and a full blood test done which both came back negative. She has been increasingly getting worried that she is positive as she can't understand how she is not. The doctor has told her that it would be very unlikely that after a such a long time the tests would be wrong. I've told her to go and have another test but she can't face it.

What should I do and how likely is it that the tests were wrong?

Your girlfriend has been told by a medical professional that she doesn't have it, there is nothing more YOU can do to convince her of this point.  At this point, her concerns are purely anxiety-related.  I'd recommend a therapist to help her work through her issues.

SL, there are plenty of people who unwittingly had unprotected intercourse with a poz person and didn't become infected. Your girlfriend is one of them and should be glad.

The tests won't be wrong - the window period for testing is three months. The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days. The three month window exists to catch the rare person who takes longer than six weeks to seroconvert.

She does not have hiv.

Im married to a HIV+ guy and Im a HIV- woman. We were married 4 years when we found out. He was diagnosed with AIDS since his CD4 was something like 85. We had used condoms for birth control, but there were times we didnt. I was so sure that my HIV test would come back positive. I tested HIV- and now I get tested once a year and I am still HIV- and hes been HIV+ for a little over 4 years. Now of course we ALWAYS use condoms.

You haven't had sex in over a year.  You need some couples counseling to save this love relationship, or you need to call it quits.
