hold up, "ruined life".  you are clearly in freak out mode at the moment, and that is entirely understandable.  i'll let the science/medical egg heads talk to you about all this.

meantime, look shortly for a PM from me.

welcome to the forums, kiddo.  all is not lost.

Welcome

There are 5 types of licensed anti-HIV drugs

1. nukes (NRTIS, reverse transcriptase inhibitors – also called nucleoside or nucleotide analogues)
2. non-nukes (NNRTIs, non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors)
3. protease inhibitors (PIs)
4. entry inhibitors
5. integrase inhibitors

These work at different stages of the HIV life-cycle.

Standard therapy is made up of 3 drugs from 2 classes - usually 2 nukes + either an NNRTI or a PI.  This is because HIV is a wily bastard and evolves to elude the drugs, but 3 drugs overwhelms its ingenuity and hammers into the ground.  This is why several drugs are used to treat HIV.

I attached a pic.

Welcome to the forums, sorry for the reason your here though.

Since Newt gave you the list of med types, I would just add the lessons here are a great place to learn. They are understandable and you can take them at whatever pace you wish.

The first year is always tough, so hang in there and keep checking in with us. That's why we're here.

HUGS,

Deniur, I wouldn't get wrapped up in how this virus came into existence.  There are many, many theories on that.  Just take some deep breaths.
