Anyone ever have this situation?
« on: September 27, 2014, 10:00:41 pm »
I've got a new one, at least for me. I'm doing a clinical trial with my doctor, who is a research as well as treating physician, to see how well aspirin works against inflammatory tissue over a short term (14 weeks).  Regular clinical trial stuff -- randomized, logged as a number anonymously, all labs paid for during the trial, etc.  Nothing dramatic or out of the ordinary.  So Friday I get a bill from my hospital (which I will glady name if that's permitted) with a dispensing fee and a "services" fee.  Probably an error in the billing dept.  Now, this wasn't supposed to happen, everything connected to the trial including costs are borne by the hospital and should never have entered into any record of mine in any way.  So what are the possible repercussions?  I'm thinking -- well, now my insurance company has some info, I might have to drop out of the trial, no big deal.  I'll need to get reimbursed for my out-of-pocket portion of this bill.  Maybe they can call my insurer and say it was an accidental charge.  Worst case for me is this though:  my insurance company will not authorize the dispensation of Stribild (or any HIV meds) without approval if there's been any change in my overall medication -- say I change blood pressure medication, they have to put the Stribild through a review for contraindications, whatever, this takes time.  The hospital will *have* to disclose the aspirin for my insurer / pharmacy to dispense my Stribild.  Anxiety city, baby.  Any suggestions on how to handle this?  I have my trial visit Mon. but obviously am concerned this very moment.  You get the idea, any feedback would be super appreciated.  Thanks.
