Oral sex exposure

Hi all

Firstly thanks for taking the time to read my post.

I am a gay male (pretty new to the whole thing) and 6 weeks ago I gave oral sex to a guy after a random meet on grindr.

He did not ejaculate in my mouth but he did preecum a lot. Just before I gave him oral I brushed my teeth and my gums tend to bleed a lot.

For the next few weeks I had been getting a bit of a sore throat - nothing serious but it was there.

Then I started to get blood blisters in my mouth (some bleeding) I now have a lot more red patches in my mouth 6 weeks after?? This worries me greatly.

A I said he never fully ejaculated in my mouth but I have reson to think he may have been positive as the next morning he tool around 5 pills and said thy where his vitamins.

I read constantly that oral sex is a 'low risk' and I don't know if this is a way of people giving advice covering themselves as no one actually knows


All my gay friends have a lot more unprotected oral sex than me and I know that as it is so common if there was a risk there would be a LOT more infected guys.

As isaid I am new to the whoe gay scene and I maybe just need some piece of mind!!

Irish33, as this is a message board and not a chat room, there might be a substantial gap between posting a question and getting a response. As these forums are staffed almost exclusively by volunteers, that gap might be hours. In rare instances it might be longer, as only a dozen or so people from across the world are officially allowed to give risk assessment on this part of the forum. Sometimes we all manage to have things more pressing, or are sick, or asleep.

To reply to your original post, nothing you did put you at risk for HIV infection - HOWEVER  other STDs are far more virulent in the oral cavity. You might be experiencing gonorrhea or chlamydia in the throat. Your best best is to get it looked after. And please remember, you can also get syphilis in the throat as well, and it can present with totally unnoticeable symptoms and end up doing terrible damage if untreated.

Even though you did not have a risk for HIV, I strongly recommend that you get a complete STD panel done at least twice a year, and why not include an HIV test along with that? For your peace of mind, and your partners.

A side note- while most STDs manifest rather early (within days or weeks) syphilis has a three month testing window.  Please don't feel yourself into thinking it's not deadly just because it is curable. You have to be diagnosed before you can be treated.
