LIVING WITH HIV IN INDIA

I am a Poz living in India. We indians do not have any group to discuss HIV as it is a very serious taboo. VIde this forum I request all indian Poz to come udner one roof to form a united front against the deadly disease

I am wondering given the social stigma attached to having hiv about the barriers to being diagnosed and seeking and receiving treatment that we in the West do not encounter and probably have little understanding about.

Pinoy, you are correct but only for specific populations.
How is the access to drugs now and in the future in Philippines?
You do realise there are people all over the world who are not being cared for, do not see doctors, do not get treatment in time before serious AIDS sickness, and people still die of AIDS.
If someone is in a position, where no medical care and no HAART are available and sustainable, this someone has a deadly disease and yes, will probably die.  

Indianhiv ---- Like Rick, I am curious to here about both the general and your personal situation in India, for HIV care.

hivindia - I am an Indian, but don't live in India. I sometimes think of moving back, but negative stigma and lack of medical care is not just allowing that to happen. I know how people with HIV are perceived in India  (my first hand experience from my family when I told them I am positive).
Like other I would also like to know the cost of HIV medication in India?, and life in general for people with HIV.

True if you are in developed side of the world. There are institutions in India who provide bread and bed to people suffering from HIV/AIDS to help them die with dignity (as they say). AIDS medication is far from affordable for the most.

I have to correct you here .  Aids Still kills.  The statistics show that there are 5,700 aids related deaths PER DAY.

If you have access to good medical care and the drugs, you can live a longer life.  I've had two friends here within the past 3 years that have died.  They had access to medication and care.

People still die.

Current Meds ; Viramune / Epzicom Eliquis, Diltiazem. Pravastatin 80mg, Ezetimibe. UPDATED 2/18/24
 Tested positive in 1985,.. In October of 2003, My t-cell count was 16, Viral load was over 500,000, Percentage at that time was 5%. I started on  HAART on October 24th, 2003.

 UPDATED: As of April, 2nd 2024,Viral load Undetectable.
CD 4 @593 /  CD4 % @ 18 %

Lymphocytes,total-3305 (within range)

cd4/cd8 ratio -0.31

cd8 %-57

I wonder than why everyone claims that with proper medication and adherence it is possible to live normal life with HIV?
