Question about testing
« on: October 18, 2017, 08:20:27 pm »
Sorry for the stupid question but i was thinking about this for awhile and wasn't sure who to ask. So when you get a rapid hiv test (insti) it involves blood from a finger. I've seen on this forum and in studies that the virus hiv dies when exposed to air. Now does the antibodies itself get affected by air seeing that insti involves the blood being exposed. In my case she was taking blood for a syphilis and a hep test then used that blood put in on a piece of paper and collected it from there to conduct the hiv test. Blood was on the paper for 30 seconds tops before performing test.  Thanks stupid question but can find any info about this scenario.

? I don't get the question or concern and you should not be posting here. The thread is being locked.

Antibodies are created by your own body not the virus. The test just looks if the antibodies are present or not. It does not look to see how active or alive they are.

In short the chemical in the test causes the antibodies to stick to them confirming they are present.

So dead or alive the test does not care.
