Atripla & Traveling time zones
« on: May 11, 2007, 04:57:41 pm »
Again, wanted to say how much I appreciate these forums.

I tested poz last month and have been on atripla since then.  I live on the east coast of the US and in the next 2 weeks, I have to go to Europe (6 hours ahead) and then to Hawaii (6 hours behind the time zone where I live)  Do other people on Atripla take the pill at the same time you would when you were home (I take it right before bed) or would you recommend taking it before bed in the new time zone? I guess I'm concerned about taking it twice within 18 hours or taking it 6 hours later than I usually do.  Any other advice people could give regarding international travel and Atripla would be helpful too. I hope this question makes sense.

With this drug it is prob easier to stick to the same local time ie just before bed.  Alll the 3 drugs in Atripla stay in the body for such a long time +6 hours ain't gonna make any difference.

Ha!

Interesting because i'm flying to Europe soon and even though I'm not on meds I thought about the adherence times. And my little brain thought that it would be more logical to use local times, because the body internal clock will start adapting when you arrive, and internal body balances will follow the night/day as they do where you currently are. If the drugs use the internal body balances to work better, then it would make sense to use local time. But I don't know, just brain farting.

When I go to Europe I just adjust it slowly over a few days.  Really not a big deal.

The bad thing is when you travel with fuzeon and your travel time from door to door is 18 hours.  Ain't much you can do about it.

Why? it needs low temp? if this is the problem you can't get a container for it?

Huh?  No, where am I going to inject it?  I guess I could take in the bathroom on the plane but it's a bit of a production in such a small space, plus you need to let it mix for 20 minutes.  Really NOT doable.

When I was on Altripla and traveled to the west coast, I took my meds on my east coast time schedule, which meant I took it at 6 pm rather than 9 pm.  I understand that the half life is pretty long so some variability is acceptable but I would definitely not hesitate to call my doctor and ask.  Jim

I've actually injected Fuzeon during several long plane trips. I make sure to get an aisle seat, so I can get up and use the restroom without making a big production. I get up once to mix the stuff, then return to my seat. About 30 or 40 minutes later, I get up again to do the injection.
