Automatic recovery from wasting syndrome?
« on: October 14, 2016, 10:33:28 pm »
Hey,

Something I'm a bit unsure of here. So I suffered massive muscle loss due to my infection. Now that we're a number of months into treatment, I had plans to hit the gym after making drastic diet changes but those haven't yet materialised.

I've changed my diet and take lots of supplements. However, I've noticed over the past little while that my body is really, really rapidly rebuilding muscle mass... from daily activities?

I'm confused because my existing muscle mass was obviously enough to carry me through each day, more or less. Why the sudden drastic changes to my tone, structure and strength?

I have no specialist to ask right now, hence asking here.

Thanks!

EDIT: As a side note, my muscles now constantly feel like I've just done a workout.

I regained 12.5 pounds in 6 weeks and 30 within the first 12 months stating treatment. Rebuilt my muscle just by eating as normal and daily activities.

You had lost 70 if i followed you posts correctly, and now you have started treatment meaning the virus is starting to be suppressed. Your body is not having to fight as much and so it sounds to me like your body is just rebuilding or bouncing back.

As always if you concerned speak to your doc, but this just sounds like expected good body changes.

Jason - congratulations that your body is repairing.

May I ask if any doctor has seen a list of the supplements you are taking.  Did the doctor recommend any of those?

You might find that as your immune system repairs your body will feel strong and like it "used to".  Sometimes people think that HIV infection means really special diets, supplements, or special fitness regimes, or whatever.

Well, this is true only if a doctor says something is necessary.   Usually whatever is healthy for an HIV- person - like good whole food and exercise and sleep, is what is good for an HIV+ too.

Meaning you might not need a lot of supplements to benefit from gym or aerobic exercise.  Also some supplements are discouraged if they have any reactions with HIV meds or if they tax the organs unnecessarily.

I hope you continue to feel better and better.
