Question about joining fitness bootcamps
« on: May 07, 2008, 12:32:05 pm »
Okay, I need a quick answer so I can register in time if you all think it is a good idea. I live in a small town of Interlachen, Florida and the next town over, Palatka, is starting a fitness bootcamp and I need some opinions because I love you all. LOL Should I or could I do this even though I am poz and I am skinny from the waist down and fat from the waist up due to the meds and would I have to tell them? I haven't ever been sick, I don't smoke or do drugs. I am very healthy for someone that has been poz for almost 18 years. Should I do it?

I think the best person to talk to about this would be your doctor.

Hello Dorjus,

If you are up to it, why not ? What do they charge, for something like this?  If this "bootcamp" is some form of rigorous workouts, I would most certainly talk to my doctor first, and get his reaction. Myself, being positive 23 years, there are certain exercise routines, that I may not feel comfortable with. I wouldn't want to twist ankles, pull tendons or worse yet break something that may be already fragile. Lets face it most of us could probably use a little more exercise. I try to concentrate on the cardio- vascular exercises as much as possible. Speed walking with weights, riding bike, laps in the pool... This is what I am more comfortable with. But, I would still talk to my doctor first...

Thanks Ray. The officer is charging $15 a session and you have to pay weekly. He is a police officer and owns a fitness center. Everything on me is good but I do have bad knees and ankles. So I would only work on the top portion.

Just try to work out in smaller periods of time and never overdo it.

Vigorous work outs should be avoided; a general rule with HIV.

I think it depends on the individual and their health, not in general. Geesh

But making small steady steps towards intense exercise until it becomes a habit is always a good idea.

Oh please.  I used to work out vigorously for YEARS with HIV.  Five days/week and with free weights.  That's just BS and uninformed saying as a general rule is that you can't do this.  More than that comes into play.
