Cold winter days and hot sweat nights
« on: January 11, 2007, 11:19:45 pm »
Hi group,
Jerry here to ask a question that has been bothering me for a long time.  I was HIV poz since 1985; I am aiming to start taking medication in two weeks.  Until then, I will allow my own overworked immune system to carry me onward.  My question is about "night sweat."  I can remember having them as young as 14 years old.  It started when one night wore a pair of heavy cotton pjs.  I just remember waking up the next morning, or middle of the night drench in cold water.  At first, I thought that I wet the bed, but figured that I couldn't have only wet mostly my top unless I sweated it through.  It was a mystery to me that I had sweated at all.  Just recently, I was in bed with my friend.  I was there because he was sick and I felt I could comfort him if I gave him body contact all night.  Anyway, he was better the next morning and he would get his full health back in three days.  He is also positive and been taking medication for years.  Sometime after that, a day, one night I was feverish and no other problem.  The fever was uncomfortable and I had "night sweats" that night.  I cannot remember the last time I had "night sweats."  Well, maybe 12 years ago when I had the flu and took an aspirin, which broke my fever.  I was awake for the break in that fever, but this one, I guess the virus my friend had passed to me and my body acted accordingly.  I had two nights of night sweats and I felt much better.  I just wondered if any else experience "night sweats" and how did it help or hurt them.  I just ask because it seems to the body’s best line of defense against a virus.  However, it may be a last stand effort compared to the medication I could take.  Let me know.
