Drug resistance question

I was just googling online and found out that no matter which drug you are taking, the virus will eventually get resistant to that and the regime will need to be changed.

Is it true that all drugs will eventually be useless even though it is taken on time everyday without missing a dose?

I am a bit worried now. I thought my Atripla can be taken for life if I want.

if you stay undetectable HIV will NEVER get a chance to mutate and resistance will never happen. When a person has the correct amount of meds in their system, those meds also act like PrEP and PEP against any new HIV that might come from a latent reservoir.

(thank you for bringing this up as it made me consider my regimen. Although I've been through 18 different meds - hey I started off in 92 when meds were pretty awful even if they did keep you alive - however this makes year #12 that I've been on the same regimen of reyataz/norvir/truvada)

Even though you may like atripla now, don't think you'll be taking it forever. ;) HIV meds have changed quite a bit in the last 30 yrs and they'll change a lot more in the future. Why already atripla (and my regimen too, sigh) are becoming outdated and prescribed less and less. Personally, I'll be happy to toss my current HIV meds out the window the day they finally develop that once-a-month drug (even if it is an injectable). :D
