I take Tivicay and Descovy. I changed from Stribild (wanted to be able to take it on an empty stomach is why I switched).

I've had no ill effects from either.

Pardon if this is not much help

I take dolutegravir abacavir and efavirenz. the dolutegravir for a few years now the others for about ten years now or so. I do not keep track of time like I use to.

This is the part that is not much help. I have always suffered from depression and anxiety i guess being a basket case is not much help. The dolutegravir is not causing any difference for me . I am still undetectable with a ballpark of about 750  t cell for a long long time with a few drug changes over the past  years

The stuff seems to be keeping me healthy and that I hope helps you to know that much. It should help your friend to know it does help keep the virus at bay.

I hope this helps

Most people tolerate DTG very well, but when people have side effects CNS/insomnia are the most common side effects.  If you go through the Q & A about treatment forum there are a number of threads about this.

I had severe anxiety and insomnia on DTG - until I stopped taking it.

I have a friend who is having a similar problem (insomnia more than anxiety).  There is some evidence that taking it in the morning may help with the insomnia.  The change to morning dosing didn't work for him though.

Best of luck to your friend.

Hi Tony,

Your friend need to work with his doctor, anxiety can be totally unrelated to his meds or just triggered from being newly diagnosed.

Whatever the cause/trigger or concern in this area really does need professional support/attention. As for sleep issues switching to morning dose seems to help if that is a concern, and anecdotally taking the dolutegravir without food.

Hope he feels better soon.

I had a little case of insomnia in the first weeks of Dolutegravir and of course that changed my quality of life, felt very stressed. But it is gone completely now... I think dolutegravir is awesome actually.

It is known to cause insomnia, but it hasn't caused any anxiety issues for me and I've previously had them.
I'd give it time. If he's having issues coming to terms with it, then that is probably whats causing his anxiety.

@JimDublin, happy new year to you too...i advised our fellow member to seek proffesional help, he is already being treated for anxiety and depression...i know that there are lots of members who have problems to handle the dx, he is one of them, and, as i said before, i don't have experiencie with dulotegravir, that why i posted about it, so, our fellow member can get the information straight from the people who are taking that medication...i'm sorry if i posted on the wrong forum...hugs my friend

Lol, don't worry about it, it's simply not an issue and so nothing to apologize for.

Hi Tonny

Sorry to hear he has been suffering from anxiety but glad he is now going to get help from a psychologist he needs and you have been supportive for him during this time of coming to terms with his diagnosis
