Summer Bye Bye! Autumn n Winter coming!?!
« on: September 06, 2018, 01:08:13 pm »
Well there's the summer finishing, here in Ireland anyway! My kids are back at school. Normal routine has started.

It was a nice early start to summer here (except me finding out I'm Poz!  :D  lol!).

Autumn never overjoys me, it only means one thing to me...cold dark winter is creeping up! I'm hoping to have a better winter this year as last years winter really was tough...of course I was very sick, felt cold a lot,  and the extra cold weather did not help me. I'm planning a more positive mindset to this coming winter. I do hate it though if I am honest, the dark days get to me.  :'(

I lived in Thailand for years and the big thing there for me was escaping the European dark winter. The tropics really suited me. I hope to retire there.

I'm going to keep busy for winter, gym, swim, read. Try not to let the dark mornings/evenings and short days bother me too much.

How do you people like and deal with the winter?

I used to love winter. Well, autumn especially - although as I've got older I much prefer summer and get annoyed by the cold weather. I've never been a fan of spring though - yes, purty flowers and all that, but usually still cold...and wet....and (mostly) grey.

I make the best of it.

Dublin Zoo fewer people to anoy me during the winter, so on a dryish wrinters day I head into the zoo, hang around the warm reptile house

Walks on the beach, cold but you have the place to yourself, great just after a storm when it still rough but not crazy . Again less people to anoy me

Walks on cold but dryish days in Wicklow mountains

Night walks around trim castle and watching the stars with a thermos of hot coffee

Reading books in the pub near the fireplace, reading books at home drinking warm chocolate

Bing watching tv shows  :)

Going to the gym ... now I have to admit I've never been tp a gym to workout but I think about it during the winter and than I normal come to my senses and go back to sleep  ;D

Speaking for the Tropic of Cancer contingent, I'd venture most of us here are happy to see summer on the wane.  We're preparing for all of you who come down on holiday. :D

ugh. Although a few leaves seem to be falling off the trees around here, don't rush summer off too fast. It'll still be warm here in the Southern USA (Nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina in the morning) for another month. We're still up around 90 for the next two weeks; the amusement park is open weekends for another month, while the waterpark section has one more open weekend; and most importantly, my pool is still open and sparkling clean!  8) (don't make me post speedo pix!  :o )

Although I really love the snow (I'm like a kid out in it from the time it starts. my neighbors thought I was bonkers but my sidewalks were always clear), I left Ohio after 23 years to leave the blizzards behind and move back South. Now, I'm freezing when it gets into the 60s. LOL (although that could just be another b12 deficiency  ;D)

So I've got a little more time to bask in the summer sun before dragging the houseplants back inside, raking leaves (so many damn leaves from just two trees. yuck), and working on puzzles through the dark, chilly Winter months. (hubby and I put together 38 1000-pc puzzles this past winter)

Well, some good winter ideas & inspiration for me here.

I've mentally decided I am going to try and enjoy the coming autumn n winter, trick my brain that I like it. lol.

Now in my mid 40s, I do think it would be nice to have a new hobby but thinking of what, nothing springs out to me, so I'm sure the right thing will appear when I'm ready.  Reading books will do for now.

My dream is, when my kids hopefully get to college, that I can spent at least 3 months of winter somewhere warm n sunny. That would be great! Ah well...just 13 years to go!

I think most parents share that dream, myself included. Its a nice thought.

First 5 years my "day dream" was simply about getting a full nights sleep   ;D
