Title: Near the hotel?
Post by: Basquo on September 02, 2007, 11:37:57 pm
I'm wondering if there's the following near the hotel:

Liquor store/Convenience store--and what the hours are for alcohol sales (Jen and I are NOT traipsing through the fog trying to score after-hours hooch this year!)

Drug store--I'm not bringing my own pharmacy but I might need a spot of Advil

Mail store--I need to ship things this year instead of having them spoil on a tarmac in a mid-Atlantic state that I didn't even visit

Late late night or very early morning dining--I'm leaving the boyfriend in Texas and might need to compensate with food at odd hours

Thanks for input from the locals...such as...it is my belief...the Iraq

I don't really know where exactly the hotel is yet but everything should be in walking distance.  In California you can't but liquor after 2:AM and in some convenience markets the cut off hour may be 11:PM.  Also, I have found food available at any hour of the day or night.  Have the best day

Hey Creighton.

Not to worry.  Market St. is the main thoroughfare in SF.  It's 1 block away.  Lots of fast food places, liquor stores and corner markets.  Across the street is a "mall" with a major department store.  I've sure they have a post office in there.  Macy's is 2 blocks up the street.  At the Powell St. BART station (that's our's) you can get the drugs of your choice.  Play chess?  There is a chess game going on 24/7.  All sorts of street musicians.

All of this, and more, at your finger tips.  Right outside your door.

Not to worry.

Walgreens a block away
http://www.walgreens.com/storelocator/result.jsp?_DARGS=/storelocator/storeListing_fg.jsp.16_A&_DAV=storeDetail&displayType=storeDetail&selectedStore=890 (http://www.walgreens.com/storelocator/result.jsp?_DARGS=/storelocator/storeListing_fg.jsp.16_A&_DAV=storeDetail&displayType=storeDetail&selectedStore=890)

Per the website, hours are until midnight (California allows sale of alcohol until 2 a.m., resuming at 6 a.m.)
As Robert said, there are lots of corner markets, newspaper shops, liquor stores in the area, probably more to the west.  Don't venture too far west though--you'll enter the evil Tenderloin, and you'll never be seen alive again.  ;)

Late nite/early morning dining:
http://www.lorisdiner.com/locations.html#mason (http://www.lorisdiner.com/locations.html#mason)  There is also a Lori's a block from the hotel, but the hours are limited; the Mason branch stays open 24 hours.

http://www.cafemason.com (http://www.cafemason.com)  Next to a youth hostel, so probably gets a younger late-night crowd, but "upscale, diner-type" food. 24 hours.

Not really late night (open until 11pm on weekends), but a step above diner-style food:
http://www.maxsworld.com/maxs/locations.php (http://www.maxsworld.com/maxs/locations.php)  Click on the "Max's on the Square" from the drop-down menu @ 398 Geary.  Pretty good food, upscale casual -- i wouldn't feel comfortable in shorts here, but jeans/polo-shirt would be fine.  Smaller theaters in the area, so it's popular with that pre/post crowd.

http://www.cheesecakefactory.com/locations.htm (http://www.cheesecakefactory.com/locations.htm)  This is located on top of the huge Macy's store facing Union Square.  Open until 12:30 am weekends per the website.  Chain store, huge portions, very popular with amazing wait times, but I've never been "late" so I don't know what the crowds would be like then.  My mom always wants to go here and eat outside on their patio when she's here...who am i to argue?  :D

Shipping packages home:
http://fedex.kinkos.com/locations/locator_results.php?LOC=37.780597167467739%3A-122.419789098078&IC=37.780597167467739%3A-122.419789098078%3A32%3A94102&GAD2=&GCITY=&GSTATE=&GZIP=94102&GAD3=94102&GAD4=&AD4=USA&AdvSearch=&SCH= (http://fedex.kinkos.com/locations/locator_results.php?LOC=37.780597167467739%3A-122.419789098078&IC=37.780597167467739%3A-122.419789098078%3A32%3A94102&GAD2=&GCITY=&GSTATE=&GZIP=94102&GAD3=94102&GAD4=&AD4=USA&AdvSearch=&SCH=)
This looks like the closest FedEx/Kinko's which ships packages.  The AMG hotel is roughly at Market and 5th for reference on the map.   (Edited at add, no. 5 is this particular location....no. 4 @ Market and 3rd may or may not ship packages, it says office and print location).

Cheers,
John

Wow!  That was a lot of info! I wonder if Lori's Diner will become our "Chez Cora" for AMG this year? ;D

Thanks!

As Creighton said:  O RLY?

Might have to test that one.

So there's going to be a Glass Stem & Crack fest in Room 212?  Will poppers be supplied?

I may have to book a last minute flight.

If you are seeking stimulation of another kind come out the front entrance turn right, walk to Powell st, turn left walk 5 or so blocks, turn left and there is Nob Hill Theater.  Or instead of turning left onto Powell Street turn right, at the Bart Station Cross over to 5th walk 4-5 blocks to Harrison turn right and in a non-script bldg on the left is another place of interest.

Oh... I've heard of the Nob Hill Theater -- famous gay strip joint, right?  I adore places like that.

How's a gay baptist deacon from the midwest know about such things?

In the interest of presenting the full scope of delights that San Francisco offers:

Nob Hill Theatre
http://www.nobhilltheatre.com/ (http://www.nobhilltheatre.com/)  "Famous since the day we opened..."  "Upscale" adult video arcade with porn star strippers.  Can be expensive to get into, IIRC...used to be around $30  (but from the website it almost sounds like a sex club now).  I can vouch that September 15th woofy headliner Carlo Masi eats ass like a champ (sadly not from personal experience, he was at Folsom Street Fair, um..."performing")  :P

Blow Buddies
http://www.blowbuddies.com/main.shtml (http://www.blowbuddies.com/main.shtml)  Popular sex club on Harrison Street.  Rougher crowd (and i mean that in a good way), no cologne, fairly strict dress code (shirts off, pants off, or wear that flannel like you mean it!)

Power Exchange
http://www.powerexchange.com (http://www.powerexchange.com)  Used to be strictly women/couples/trannies on the first two floors (big time tranny playspace), and men only on the top two floors.  That distinction seems to be blurred now.  Themed areas, younger crowd.  Neither are my area of interest.

There's also Eros, the Tea Room Theater, Steamworks in Berkeley, the Watergarden in San Jose....you get the point.

BTW, I noticed that there's a 20% discount coupon you can print on your computer for Lori's Diner, good for up to groups of six.

Click on 'Home' from the link I provided.

Been there twice. Boring.

Used to be my favorite place when it was men only. Then they opened the first floor for trannies and started organizing special parties for couples. That was working very well and the men's area got "forgotten" and got boring. I still go there from time to time. I've had interesting gang bangs there. And closet sex (in the janitor closet, with the janitor).
