Negative Newborn babies
« on: September 20, 2010, 05:39:28 pm »
I have been positive for  23 years and i was on the verge of making a baby with someone I considered special at one time in my life, but that right there is an entirely different topic.  Well, anyway, I have been thinking about going half on a baby or two with someone special again.  No, I'm not a glutton fo pain.  It is painful when someone you care deeply about hurts you.  I don't think it is selfish to want to make/have a baby with someone else who is positive as well because the medical technology today is advanced to the point that babies can be born healthy.  I won't state any medical facts here because I don't have the references to back up this.  I'm sure it is out there though.  If two responsible adults who are both positive or even one positive and the other negative, I think it would be a part of living with this.  I am not a selfish person, and I understand why some people would consider becoming pregnant being HIV + is a selfish act.  Nevertheless, people who make rush decisions about something like this would be more than selfish, they would be irresponsible to say the least.  If I learn more about how newborn babies can grow up to be healthy individuals and live a normal life (or close to normal), then I would support the idea of raising children between two people who share being positive or otherwise.  Just sharing my views on this yaw.

There is absolutely no reason why a positive person cannot have children if they want to, regardless if their other half is positive or negative. We have quite a few positive parents who are members of these forums and we have several who are in poz/neg relationships. Some of them the father is poz and the mother is neg, some are the other way around. All the children born of these couples are hiv negative and in the poz/neg relationships, the neg partner remained neg.

People who claim that poz people who want to have children are the ones who are selfish, not the poz people.

Welcome to the forums, btw.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Hi there

Welcome to the forums.

Ann is right of course, and as you get to know these forums you will find she is always right and knows her stuff.. ;)

I couple I know had a beautiful little boy 6 months ago, they had a great ID Doc and did everything by the book with wonderful results....and there is nothing selfish about wanting to bring a child into the world.

Hugs

Here is a copy of a post I made in May this year regarding HIV negative babies born from an HIV positive parent.

You may find the references helpful.

Take care.
