I suspect I may have an eating disorder :-(
« on: December 06, 2016, 05:43:17 pm »
Here I go again...I think I may have an eating disorder and this is how I came to such a troubling conclusion. Granted this may be a side effect of my HIV medication (I take Complera), I have had this problem for even longer. The last few days I could barely eat a nice hearty meal in one sitting. For example, today for lunch I cooked a soup. At the very beginning I already felt like not eating it but I tried to. I forced myself eat a few spoonfuls, and then stop because I felt it was all coming back up. So, I ordered a chicken sandwich which nibbled on but managed to eat half of it. Now I am back home and I only had a glass of apple cider and have absolutely no desire to eat. The logic dictates that I should it, because it is important but I feel like my body says NO. What should I think of it? I mentioned this to my doctor, but she does not seem to care. She always dismisses my concerns whether it is about eating habits or the feeling I have that "something is wrong with my bones/joints/muscles". I guess I will see it for a few more months and then ask to try a new drug.

To be honest there are a number of reasons why someone may have an eating disorder. There are also a number of reasons why someone may eat less for a while or more and it happens to HIV negative people as well.

Self diagnosis, well I don't doubt your concerns however all I can say is if you think you have a problem to than check with your Doctor (Regular General Practitioners), if the doc you mentioned happens to be your GP and you are still unsure about the diagnosis to get a 2nd opinion for reassurance or ask the HIV doc. Nobody online can tell you if you have a problem or not.

It does not sound to me personally like you do, I mean some days even sometimes a few days back to back I eat light like you mentioned and do not feel hungry but its not HIV related or meds related.

Anyhow wish you well.
