HIV risk from two encounters
« on: October 17, 2017, 05:17:19 pm »
Hello to all! On Sept 11th I had sex with a man of unknown HIV status. We were in doggy style position and I notice him taking the condom off entering me halfway. I move quickly so that he couldn't fully penetrate me and I panicked. In order to ease my worry, he offered to get tested. we both went to for testing on the 14th (of the same month) and both tested negative. He told me his last encounter was 4 months before me, and I trusted his word due to the fact that he was so willing to get tested without any issues. October 4th, we had brief unprotected sex without him ejaculating. The second encounter was also with a man of unknown status on Oct 8th. We had protected sex and I was on top. Due to me not being moist enough I raised up and the condom wasn't on his penis. We looked all around the bed before checking to see if it was in my vagina. Turned out, the condom slipped of inside of me and due to me being on top for a few minutes, it was lodged deep near my cervix. I panicked and went to the restroom to check the condom for possible precum, which I don't think he had very much. I also ran water inside the condom to check for holes. I asked him when he was tested last, and he told me that he was tested before coming to the country with a visa. He said that they are required to tested for everything to make sure they are healthy before entering the U.S. He also tried to reassure me that he doesn't sleep with just anyone. Since then, I've been worried and suffering from anxiety. I've been having hiv anxiety since my childs father was diagnosed over 15 years ago. Me and my baby both tested negative. Since then I've always worried and anxious about the "what ifs" and have been going to counselling for being phsycologically traumatized. What would be my risk from these two encounters. I'm trying to not worry so much and lead a comfortable sex life, but it's really hard. It seems like the safer I try to be, somethings happens and the cycle starts over. I don't want to be infected and don't want to infect anyone. I just want to be done with this and move on.

From reading your post, it's difficult to determine that you really had a risk, since it does appear likely that the activities described in your post were protected or did not constitute a potential risk since penetration was not involved (or fully involved).

I would rely on your HIV antibody test, which so far has been negative.

Many experts recommend that testing be done six weeks after potential exposure, then at 13 weeks for confirmation of the six week results.  However, other experts assert that testing sooner can be considered reliable.

It is unlikely that your test will change, but, if you are seeking peace of mind, I would advise that you consult your healthcare provider to determine when you can consider that your test for HIV antibodies is "conclusive" as a result of the activities you describe in your post.

I go back in 3 weeks to have another duo test done. I'm really trying to think positive and rational about these risks. The sex was also a bit rough due to the friction from the condom and not being that moist. I'm worried that it may heighten my risk of infection. I'm still experiencing irritation from the condoms that isn't getting better. I scheduled a well woman's exam to rule out any STIs but HIV is my main worry..
