Twilight Actor Is Pissed
« on: January 09, 2013, 10:55:19 pm »
This was too good to post in the YouTube thread.  I thought about posting it in the penis size thread.  This version is an unblurred version.  YouTube may pull it down, even though you can't see much.  Perhaps someone here can zoom and enhance.

From what was reported in the news, his name is Bronson-something, and played a wolf in the Twillight movies.  He was apparently asked to sit and get sober, and catch a later flight.  There was also something about a public meth use charge.

You're right.  We do laugh at things people do, from the Jet Blue flight attendant to Lindsay Lohan, when they are actually troubled.  It is a topic for debate about what can be made light of vs what shouldn't.

dont get me wrong, i loved watching this video because its so ridiculous. i do feel bad for this guy though. he obviously has some pretty severe substance abuse issues if hes pulling shit like this weeks after a drug arrest. also, ive done a good share of drinking in my time, but i have NEVER done anything like this. i think some serious benzos or something must have also been at play. i cant possibly imagine being that fucked up. its sad because he had a minor role on twilight and probably could have had a good career but even if he pulls his shit together, that video of him pissing at the airport will always be there. even though ive never been that wasted, im SO thankful that my most wasted moments (who knows what those were...) are not on film.

he's a cutie though and lots of guys are into watersports so maybe he'll spin it and make a career move into golden shower porn.  8)

Obviously you don't mind making fun of this guys substance abuse problems, otherwise you would not have posted this video.  Exactly which type of problems do you think should not be held up for others to ridicule?

Joe, get over yourself please!  You have had some problem with me for a few years.  We poke fun at many people, especially celebrities.  There have been numerous threads and posts about people doing odd behavior, when they were actually troubled.  I acknowledged that we often forget what people are going through in my second post.  When more popular folks here do things you would call others out for, you remain silent.  You pick and choose your daily lectures.

I didn't get to sit at the cool table there either.  Wait a minute, I was actually behind the bleachers getting high with the other delinquents.

On topic however, my second boyfriend was an alcoholic.  I was only 20 years old at the time so wasnt very experienced with such things.  He used to get beyond drunk.  I remember on more than one occasion he was so wasted that he would walk into his clothes closet and start peeing.  I remember once, I ran up behind him and grabbed him trying to wake him out of his "trance" as he was peeing in the closet.  It was no use.  He would then wake up the next day and have absolutely no idea about what transipired.

That was the first time I ever experienced someone in a true blackout.

It really is a very sad clip.....  as someone in recovery from alcoholism, I only hope that when he sees this, it helps him say "Enough is enough" and get the help he needs.
Addiction is never a pretty thing to see -- nor do I find it a particularly funny thing to see -- unless in hindsight, with some clean time under ones belt.  Of course, that assume that one actually survives their addiction.

There's a reason that schadenfreude is a guilty pleasure, and not supposed to be an overt one.

If you want to laugh at a fat lady who falls down, then you might consider the audience with which you are laughing, or else you might be reamed out by five people whose heavy mothers have had hips broken and died.

Just, you know...

I read the thread.
So of course I was intrigued so watched the video
I laughed this kind of laugh.
"Ah poor thing, so drunk. Wait, he's whipping it out. Laugh laugh laugh, cover the month, Oh my God this is pretty dire and sad, laugh, oh, no, I shouldn't laugh. Oh, thank god I didn't have to be the security guards. This is tragic."

We could debate if that is a schadenfreude laugh.

http://brainworldmagazine.com/schadenfreude-the-joy-in-others-woes/

Schadenfreude is more when we get a little pleasure charge when someone gets what WE THINK they have coming to them.  I doubt anyone wishes bad fortune upon some relatively new unknown young star/starlet.

Some people maybe resent all celebrities, so if they laugh at any and all celebrity misfortune, just because its a celebrity, then yeah it would be schadenfreude.

Speaking of, the fuck is up with Jennifer Anniston and her leather poof? Dior, huh...

To compare a video show, that offers cash for the funniest video, with someone suffering from substance abuse or addiction is a false equivalence.  There's a vast difference between those who create their own train wrecks intentionally, like Lindsay Lohan, or Jennifer's poor choice in dress, vs. the subject of this thread, who has known drug problems.

I'm with Mike and Greg on this one and that's why I asked the OP, where would he draw the line?

Lindsay is infamous and I don't feel schadenfreude reading about her travails:

Today's in dept on location reporting by the NYT.
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/13/magazine/here-is-what-happens-when-you-cast-lindsay-lohan-in-your-movie.html?_r=0

I think I misunderstood something, Killfolie.  Lohan struggles for years with drugs and alcohol.

At this point a lot of us are looking on Lohan with a sort of grisly mortification, not campy glee like the lightweight haters you read in the comments sections below posts/articles about her.  Even there, its about evenly spilt.

A light laugh at pretty Anniston is the light, frothy beginning of schadenfreude. So it is a bit cruel. (But really the last laugh is hers because shes fine, not a trainwreck, and really, she looks just lovely in her Dior poof.) That's the scary thing about schadenfreude, its runs quite the gamut of degree, and it's very very dark.

I hate those kinds of vids.  Also, I think they help create this tele reality moment in pop culture.

But I did like the recreation of those vids by "professionals" steve-o and johnny knoxville. They were so sexy for a hot minute.

I'm glad this video was taken and posted on Youtube. With all due respect to the recovering addicts among us, I am one, Society needs to see this but moreso  this guy needs to see this. Having drug problems does not negate the fact that there are consequences to what you do. Maybe this video, with the people laughing, being spread worldwide will be the spark that cause this guy to work towards getting clean. Perhaps it will save his life. Perhaps it will cause some random person to think about their issues. Doesnt matter that he is a quasi star either, Ive seen thousands of these vids of just random people. I dont have a problem watching this video, it reminds me that but for certain events "there go I". Whats the saying "But for the grace of God there go I". And yes, it's sad but I still chuckled at it.

I do agree that it could be the kick he needs to get help.

Sometimes things people do can be funny and sad at the same time.
Anyone, well known or not who whips out his penis to take a piss in a crowded airport terminal subjects themselves to being part of "the news of the day".

While I have sympathy for the trouble he is going through because of an addiction problem, it doesn't mean that it wasn't kinda funny AND sad.
(he didn't harm anyone but himself)
(I'm sure the cleaning crew were not happy campers either)

Live and hopefully learn.
(compared to the issues involved in the Newtown mass killings, this was just a "drop in the bucket" (the cleaning crew wished).

When you put yourself "out" like that, you have got to expect a reaction.

While I get your overall point -- the fact is that many people would say a similar thing about openly gay folks.  Not that I am equating being gay with being an addict -- it is about people finding justifications for what we all KNOW is simply not nice behavior.

And, look, I'm not saying that I've never laughed at things that I should not have laughed at -- what has struck me hardest about this, is that it was presented here as "too juicy" to pass up -- and not knowing what thread to put it in -- that it just HAD to be called out for as many folks as possible to see.  Yes, had I been in that airport, I'm sure I would have both horrified for him, and laughing -- the fact that this is now being passed around to millions is just not necessary.  It's on YouTube, people will find it, sharing it here with gleeful delight, well that just strikes me wrong.

This poor bastard surely does not remember doing what he did -- lord knows I've been told many tales that I am glad I don't recall (and even happier that they happened pre-YouTube).
It's the overwhelming glee that is just as sad to me, as this episode.
