Strated meds 4 weeks ago and had some amazing results!
« on: November 29, 2009, 04:51:59 am »
Well I was diagnosed 7 weeks ago now and it was all a bit of a shock and it's been like rollercoaster ride. I got my first bloods back about a week after being diagnosed with some worrying results, they showed I had a CD4 of 8 and VIRAL LOAD of over 430,000. As you can imagine this freaked me out quite a bit, I just had visions of me dying in hospital, it was horrid.

They called me straight back into the clinic to give me a chest x-ray and put me on co-trimoxazole to protect me from PCP. Another week later I went back to the clinic to start my meds, I started on Truvada/Sustiva combo 5 weeks ago now and I've done OK with them, no major side effects.

Well I had me second lot of bloods done last week, exactly 4 weeks since I started the meds with some really pleasing results - my CD4 has risen from 8 up to 121 and my VIRAL LOAD has fallen from over 430,000 to just 840. I was really pleased but shocked because I had been ill the weeks before with suspected swine flu so was not expecting such good results.

My advice to you is keep at it, they do work. :)
05/10/2009 ~ DIAGNOSED, CD4 = 8
22/10/2009 ~ CD4 = 11/VL = 430,000, STARTED ATRIPLA and SEPTRIN
26/11/2009 ~ CD4 = 121/VL = 840
22/12/2009 ~ CD4 = 184 (6%)/VL = 340
11/03/2010 ~ CD4 = 177 (12%)/VL = 72
01/07/2010 ~ CD4 = 247 (12%) VL = 76
20/01/2011 ~ CD4 = 350 / VL = 29

wonderful improvement! just finished up my own "suspected swine flu" as well. Sunday I could hardly breathe or sleep. Friday I went to the gym and ice skating (i can't skate!). we do bounce back. we do get stronger. don't expect every blood draw to show greater and greater improvement.

you seem to be doing very well. the meds work very well and pretty fast for most people.

good health!
