Letters of Protest
« on: May 09, 2008, 02:28:22 pm »
If you have strong feelings about the US Peace Corps accepting HIV positive volunteers, here is one way to show your support for all HIV positive ( past, present and future) Peace Corps Volunteers.  I am an HIV positive former Peace Corps volunteer.  Were I to want to do volunteer work for the Peace Corps today, what would happen?

This link takes you to a site where you are able to send a letter to Senator Dodd, of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee:

"Below is the response from Rebecca Shore, the person in the ACLU handling the Johnson case. She is suggesting that we send letters of support to Senator Dodd. Below is the website with information about how to do so. I would very much encourage those who support ensuring that people living with HIV are not discrimitated against for Peace Corps service send a note to Senator Dodd - and that you encourage others outside our group to do so."

A follow up to the above post was from someone who wanted to know if people outside Connecticut could send letters to Senator Dodd.  The response here says that its not as his capacity as SENATOR from Connecticut that we are concerned rather his position on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee............

"In response to your question, my understanding from Rebecca is that we are writing to Senator Dodd in his capacity of Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee - and that role obviously goes well beyond his role of representing the people of Connecticut"
