Britney Spears just remade Burning Up, but it sucks, too slow.

Too much like the original and pales in comparison. I prefer a cover to go in new direction that brings something different to the song. When Ike and Tina Turner sang CCR's "Proud Mary" they transformed the song into something that was new and personal.

I agree. There's no point to doing a cover unless there will be something new and original. I love Darren Criss's version of Teenage Dream, from Glee, for example.

And speaking of Britney, has anyone heard Richard Thompson's version of Oops I Did It Again?  It's great:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAS4ltt7DzI

And I remember Justin Bond (Kiki & Herb) did a great version of Hit Me Baby One More Time.

I think an exact cover isn't necessarily a bad thing as long as it is done on a tribute album or to reintroduce the song to a new generation.  I hadn't heard of this madonna song until you guys linked it.  It sounds like it's from fairly early in her career and wasn't one of her greatest hits perhaps?  I have a pretty deep knowledge of music but this song is completely new to me.

Uh, one of the nicest ditties on her first album.  If you ever gave that disc a full listen you would have remembered it.  Hi Energy feel, very simple production, guitar riffs.  Dates well.

Iggy Pop covered it to honor Madonna's induction to R&R Hall of Fame.

Indeed they're both very talented.  Do you watch So You Think You Can Dance?  Generally near the end they have a mismatch of male/female partners and end up doing some really great same sex dances.  Although the only ballroom dance I've seen was a Pasa Doble that was awful.

I'm liking Lady Gaga's Scheiße.
No video yet but it was used for a Mugler show. The mix on the album is more stompy and exciting. But here we get the clothes:

A micro kilt might turn me on - if worn by a guy below the age of say 23, or of course on any authentic scotsman.  Otherwise, its pure camp, like a lot of gaultier on men.

When I saw him in the Gaga video I assumed it was makeup. I didn't realize all that was a full body tattoo. He is certainly committing to a look.

I don't get your answer. Are you saying he had a huge one put in the middle of his chest without knowing what it is or what it means? I grant you he could just be trying to be provocative but surely anyone committing to such a thing would know what the implications are.

I would think, at your advanced age which is older than my own, you would have learned that people often do things for no apparent logical reason.

Additionally, one of the earlier hardcore punk/metal bands that had hip hop mixed in was a band from Brooklyn called BIOHAZARD.  ::) Now with the current Mugler imagery in mind that we're discussing, which do you find the most likely?

He was inspired by zombie movies and a biohazard symbol is iconic to that genre. I suspect it has more to do with horror than HIV but who knows.

I have a film treatment that includes an HIV+ vamp.  Will the genre be ok with this?
Its Ash Wednesday meets Boom meets Nosferatu meets Seventh Seal.

Can zombies ... be HIV+ ?
I think so. I just watched "Otto: Up with Dead People" (http://movies.nytimes.com/2008/11/07/movies/07otto.html) last night and know that zombies can be gay. the film was just so, um, wrong, that I didn't watch enough to really know if the gay zombies were poz or not; but I would think after disemboweling your partner, eating his intestines, and then screwing him in the stomach that HIV would surely be transmitted if either one was infected.  ::)
