Title: Viaticated in 1996 - New Policy Owners being Agressive.
Post by: SteveA on February 28, 2019, 04:24:32 am
Is there anyone else here who Viaticated their insurance back in the 90's still alive besides me and now the people who bought the policies have sold them on to new people who are being more aggressive in their demands for information?

I did a viatical settlement in 1998. A few years ago, the policy was transferred to a different company. The new company's requests for information haven't changed much from the old company's. A couple of times a year I get a questionnaire about my current address and contact information. Last year, they tried contacting me by mail when I was out of town, and they actually did phone several friends whom I had listed as contacts, presumably to find out if I was still alive.

In what way has your new company has been getting more aggressive in its information requests?

Well this year they now have my yearly updates from the insurance company being sent to them first which they forward to me. Now these yearly requests from MetLife require my response within 45 days of the date of the mailing. Well now they're being sent to an address that is not mine. Sitting at their offices, who knows how long and then being sent to me and now they want me to send them back to them instead of Metlife. This just seems intrusive. Also as of this year they are asking for 3 persons they can contact other than myself, which, while understandable. Could have been worded more clearly. I gave them my mother, my GP and my Cardiologists contact information, but it sounds like they want to contact these people "Before" they attempt contacting me, and that just doesn't set well with me. In any case, it just feels shady. Maybe I'm over reacting.

My husband viaticated his policy in early 1990’s. We have seen his policy sold a dozen times. At one point, the original buyer/broker was shut down by FL state for fraud. We have had the same company now for about 3 years. Yes, we get the qtrly status reports that we respond to.... As an aside, my husband turns 65 this year. The policy was originally for 3 times his annual salary- when he truns 65- policy drops to 2x annual salary.  I am sure current owner of the policy is not pleased.

Well I'm sure the policy holders are not happy with me as well as the insurance company that is paying the premiums for what was a term life policy through my union at my old job. They've had to pay the premiums on this policy all this time as well. Guess I should be happy I'm not the one stuck with those payments.
