I'm going to hell in a hand basket...
« on: January 14, 2013, 03:59:43 pm »

I had my audiology exam today at 1:45 this afternoon.  Just got home a  while back.

Guess who need two hearing aids.

  ME !!!

I should get them around March 1st. ( which is my next audiology appt.) They will arrive at the clinic by then, and at that time, they will show me how to use them.

I believe she said the loss was at 60%, but I will post more detail later, when I get the full report.

It's a pain in the ASS getting old !!

Hey Ray,

Look at it this way, now you have an excuse for ignoring people who are annoying you. You can say you just didn't hear them! ;)

Ray,

Just think, when you get your hearing amps, you will become a real Bionic Man with super hearing powers.

Ray, wow.  Skin cancer and now hearing aides.

Bette Davis said getting old ain't for sissies.  She sure was right.

I like Mark's suggestion of not having to listen to people who bug you.  I'd go with that.

Hi Ray, I hate it that you're going to need hearing aids, but I'm glad that you will be able to GET them!   I know they can be very pricey.

I hope you can get a pair that work well for you, and you will notice a marked improvement in your hearing, and thus, your quality of life.

HUGS, Alan

I've always wanted to go to hell in a hand basket...where did you get yours? Does it go real fast?

Yes, the getting old thing is tiresome. I was at the gym today and thought to myself "what the hell am I doing here, I'm 54. This is all damned hard to do." But I keep going, I've just learned to ignore the creaks and snaps.

Of course it's important. It's an email...

You are not alone.

My friend's  11 year old son needs cochlear implants-he's going completely deaf, and I struggle with what is called hyperacusis, the hypersensitivity to sound.

Hope these help and aren't too much a pain in the arse.

Well,... I got "AIDS" today !  I had an appointment at 1:45 this afternoon to pick up my new hearing aids.

I think their pretty nice, and really quite comfortable.  It doesn't feel like I have anything in my ears.  :P

This is the "behind the ear" model, with a small tube, that fits in the ear canal. I spent about 35 minutes with the doctor as she programmed these, and showed me how to put them in, and take them out.

I had no idea of the technology ! I placed them in my ears and the doctor did the initial programming, through her computer,( wirelessly), so they both are now set up. Anytime the battery compartment, is opened up it goes back to pre-set default settings, but there is a up and down volume control, should I need to adjust.

She ordered 6 months supply of batteries , which I should get in 7-10 days, and I have a follow up appointment on April 9th, to see how everything is working out with them.  I don't foresee any problems, Ed says they are pretty much non-visible, and the first thing he said, as he walked around me was:

" Can you hear me now, Can you hear me now? "  ;D

Here's some pics:
