Hello  :)

HIV vaccine to be tested on people
After years of research, a promising HIV/AIDS vaccine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is moving into the critical human testing
The school's Institute of Human Virology, headed by Dr. Robert Gallo, who helped discover the human immunodeficiency virus that causes AIDS and who developed the HIV blood test, announced the next big step in the research Thursday.

Am I reading it's a preventative vaccine?

I always thought the word Vaccine meant it would get rid of something after the host was infected.

Vaccines are preventative measures rather than a treatment plan.

Interesting - have you heard any feedback from those clinical trials? Do you know of anyone participating?
