AMG 06 - Side trip to Quebec City ( part 2 )
« on: July 26, 2006, 11:31:30 pm »
Hello everyone,

First of all I wanted to tell everyone who wants to participate in this trip that the scheduled has been a bit modifed. The reason being simple, if we leave 30 minutes earlier we'll be in Quebec City for lunch and departing earlier will mean for us to have lunch in Montreal upon arrival. Indeed if we take two meals in Quebec City we might very tired when arriving in Montreal.

The New proposed scheduled for that day would be :

depart from Montreal at 10:00 am - arrival in Quebec City at 12:30 pm
depart from Quebec City at 5:30 pm - arrival in Montreal at 8:00 pm

Rocky, Alanbama and I were concerned about a few things about this side-trip, and much better to raise the issue right now for making everything clear. There are several attendees who are arriving in Montreal on August 17th and departing on the 21st. We already know there are a lot of activities planned on the 17th ( Pub Crawl ), on the 18th (Chapel Of Hope, Wedding, Meet & Greet ), on the 19th ( conference with Tim Horn ) and certainly a lot of clubbing time as well.

Now for someone making the side-trip to Quebec City on the 20th ( especially to those arriving on the 17th and leaving on the 21st ) means they won't have much time to visit Montreal. Basically all they have left is Saturday afternoon and part of the evening on the 19th.

Somehow this is possible several persons committed to this trip without thinking about such details, and quite frankly it would be much better to make a final decision now when you have all the cards in your hands. We have time ahead of us, so let's settle this matter right now instead of having regrets at the last minute.

I planned this because I thought it was a good idea at the time ( still think it is ) to visit the old Quebec City since it's not too far from Montreal. I'm not doing this for I but for YOU. Therefore if you feel better not to do the trip for the reasons mentioned above ( or any others for that matter ) then this is the time to say so. I won't get upset if people decides not to go as it has never been meant for me...but for you only. It will be easier for us to modify something before the gathering happens instead of last minute changes ( annoying ). Of course this is also valid for people arriving on the 16th or any other dates.

If you want cancel your participation to this side-trip...this is the time to do it and will modifiy the list hereunder accordingly.

See you soon in Montreal  ;)

Quebec City may be the closest thing I ever get to seeing a real "European" city.   If I was leaving on 21st, I'm not sure if I could make it, but since I am not leaving until Tuesday the 22nd, I am definitely going!

Thank you Claude, for all the work you have done in planning for this outing.
I really appreciate it.

Hugs,

Alan

PS - look at the times you wrote above; it takes 2.5 hours to get there but only 2 to get back?  Somebody is going to be FLYING !   tehehe

Alanbama,

You're welcome and really my pleasure to do this. Keep in mind Quebec City isn't a European city but the old part looks like a '' small Paris '', and possibly the closest you can get in North America for getting the European feel.

Hey Alan....

Not to worry.  Tim (Moffie) is driving.  As Rocky noted earlier, he has a lead foot.  We'll make him the lead driver in the caravan and that way we can all be home in time for cocktails.   ;D

How would Rab know I have a lead foot????????????  He has never been in a vehicle that I was piloting.  I don't have a lead foot, however, I do have pretty nasty neuropathy, and hopefully the van will have cruise control in it.  Otherwise, a brick on the accelerator always works in a bind.

Clanuck:

Your list has a total of 24.  Which looks now like it should be 23.  Dingo and Jen are driving in their own car.  That makes 21 needing transport.

You and KCMetro are both driving.  Say 4 passengers in each of those cars.  Leaving 13 for the vans.

Do we still need the 3rd van?  Or should we just leave it as it is and make a decision later?

Hi RAB,

I was making the list in terms of passenger and not vehicles. In the latter terms you are right..and at this moment it would be two vans required.

We can leave it like that until sometimes next week..and cancel one of the vans if we really don't need it.

Is it too late for a latecomer to chime in?

I would like to go, if there is room. If not, I'll understand.

If so, count me in. I'm not leaving till the 22nd.

Hello everybody,

I mentioned earlier there was no more rooms for the side-trip to Quebec City but this is actually not the case. Someone pointed out to me that 7 adults in a van wasn't very comfortable, therefore we'll still to have to spread the persons using them in three. In short there are still rooms if someone else ever decide to go.

Hi Basquo,

It wouldn't be too late. A little while ago the cost was estimated at $20.46 USD / person ( van rentals + gasoline ) if we were 29. At this moment we would be 25 with you and perhaps one would desist...so it means a slight higher cost.

Estimate :

$593.49 / 24 person = $24.73 USD
$593.49/  25 person =  $23.74 usd

Canuck

Thanks for staying on top of this.

As I mentioned to you on the phone, in the event the 3rd van is not needed, then I would want to opt out of the side trip to Quebec City.

Right now you have 25 names on the list, though Cliff's name is still included, so it probably should be 24.

You've got Dingo and Jen driving in their own car.  You've got a total of 8 passengers in the cars you and John will be driving.  That leaves 14 in the vans.  If my name is also removed that leaves 13.  So it looks like if 1 more elects out then that would leave 12, and you would only need to two vans.

The cost of the van rental (inclusive of taxes) is $82.59 w/unlimited mileage.  You had estimated fuel costs of $45.00 per vehicle.

The # of people sharing in that cost should not include Dingo or Jen obviously.  Nor should it include yourself, John or Trish as you guys are already providing vehicles.

2 vans at $82.59   =    $165.18

3 veh fuel @ $45.00 =  $135.00

Total cost =  $300.18

Divide by 19 passengers =  $15.80 per person if only 2 vans are rented.

RAB

Edit to add:  If more people decide to make the trip, that's o.k. too.  We've got the van reserved.  Spreading the cost of that rental and fuel over the # of people going isn't going to raise the cost per person by much more than $5.00.  That isn't a big deal.

Hi RAB,

You're welcome and thanks for the detail costs ( and possibilities ) concerning this side-trip. It'll be a rather cheap trip over all and no one will complain about this.

In 11 days around that time I'll be an hour away from Montreal...time goes fast for sure.  ;)

See y'all soon in Montreal...

I enjoyed the trip very much, especially spending the day shopping and having lunch with Jan and Jen.   I loved the city, especially Notre Dame.
