Condom questions
« on: December 14, 2006, 11:09:29 pm »
Hello Everybody,

I have a couple of questions and concerns that I hope some of you can help me out with. The other day, I had an anonymous encounter with a woman. We had protected vaginal intercourse and protected oral. I don't know her status, but by her attitude I could tell that she had probably been around a few times. I haven't done anything like this in years, and I'm regretting it a lot... anyhow...  I have a couple of questions which might seem crazy.

As far as condoms go... is it easy to tell the difference between a latex condom and a lambskin one?  She put the condom on me, and I didn't see the packaging.  It was a thin, pink colored one...  If it was lambskin, would I have been able to tell the difference?

Also, after I took off the condom, I checked it to make sure it wasn't broken, and it was OK.  However, some of her vaginal secretions rubbed off onto the shaft of my penis.  Do this seem like something that I should be concerned about?

I want to thank whoever answers in advance.  I know I'm probably being paranoid about this, but who knows.

Thanks all!!

I`m no going to tell you about the difference beetween latex and lambskin condom. Talking about the second one I just do not know what it means in my language. Concerning the situation, you didn`t have any risk, you shouldn`t worry. There could be some risk if you have unprotected sex or the condome was broken.

Lambskin fits loosely with a tight band at the base of the penis, unlike the tight latex fitting condom. I doubt that she would have used a lambskin because of expense. Now, I have a question. You said the she had probably been around a few times, what about you? Have you been around a few times? Don't be judging others unless you judge yourself first. You do not need to test and it doesn't matter that you got secretions on your penis.

Yeah, you can`t consider if a woman have HIV judging by her appearance, complexion, make-up and even number of partners. HIV itself doesn`t pay attention to all this stuff, it doesn`t choose the next "victim"  according to social position, salary, age and so on...

As Rod has said, the likelihood is that it was a latex condom because the others are more expensive. Condoms provide very effective protection whether you are with a civilian or a professional or with someone who's "been around."

Use one everytime you have intercourse and if you're concerned about what kind then just carry your own.

I don't see any need for testing in relation to this incident. However, we always recommend that anyone who's sexually active to regularly do a full STD panel -- at least annually. Other STDs are much easier to get than HIV.

Cheers,

Thank you everybody for your comments.  I agree with you Rod... I was too judgemental.  After all, I was there too. I'll just try to put all of this behind me and get on with things.  Thanks again.

Hello Again,

Just to follow up with everybody. I talked at length with a health promotions nurse at my university, and she gave me the same great information that all of you have. I just want to thank everybody once more, and apologize for my judgemental comments in my first post.

Also, she gave me a nice piece of information which I though I could share. Nobody makes colored natural skin condoms, so the one I was wearing couldn't have been one.  Just though I would share in case any more paranoid people like myself pose this same crazy concern.

Thanks again everybody, and Cheers to you too Andy.

Sincerely

Hello Again,

I'm probably worried about nothing, but a couple of days ago, I started to develop a rash on my lower to mid back, and the sides of my stomach, and a very very little on my forearms.  I doesn't itch, and at its worst points it consists of very small red papules. I don't know if this could be due to ARS, or if its something else. Because it happened so soon after, I am very concerned about it. Does this sound typical of an ARS rash?  I searched the archeives, and I couldn't find much information on what a typical ARS rash looks like.

Thanks everybody...

You had protected sex. So this is the end of your question to HIV and ARS or any other symptoms that you think you have. None of this is related to HIV.

Whatever is going on in terms of your symptoms has nothing to do with HIV or ARS. You had protected intercourse. Condoms provide very effective protection against HIV transmission.

If your symptoms persist you should discuss them with your doctor. This is happily not an HIV situation. It's just your mind working your nerves about the issue. Really.

Milo,
Before you let your very active imagination get the best of you keep the fact that you wore a condom centrally fixed in your mind. Looking at every part of your body for some sign of trouble just continuously supports your fears when there is absolutely no reason for concern. Try to let this go and keep those condoms handy and you'll continue to be fine.

You do not need to get tested as a result of this incident.
