a new twist on a kissing question
« on: August 26, 2006, 12:07:52 pm »
I was with another male.  We kissed on and off for 2 hours open and closed mouthed.  I had not brushed my teeth for some 12 hours prior. I used to have bleeding gums when I brushed my teeth.  Recently, this no longer is the case.  I had lunch about 8 - 9 hours earlier and ate tortilla chips that ended up roughing up the roof of my mouth.  He had not brushed/flossed his teeth for 8 - 9 hours prior.  I could not taste or see blood in his mouth though that's hard to do accurately.  After we finished, I noticed the roof of my mouth feeling rough.  I pressed the area multiple times firmly with a papertowel.  After doing so, a faint pink spot transferred to the papertowel.  My concern is not knowing his status even though he said he is consistently safe, I am concerned that the roof of my mouth could have been a portal for hiv entry if he is positive.  So, I wanted to know does this represented a transmission risk, and if so, how risky and is testing suggested?  Thanks so much in advance for your thoughtful guidance.

You don't get HIV from kissing. French, Spanish, Italian, Asian, African or English kissing.

Bleeding gums or not you don't HIV from kissing. Period. End of story.

Please read the lesson on transmission in the first thread in this section. You can enjoy kissing and a lot more as long as you follow some basic safer sex guidelines. Mainly it's about condoms for intercourse. But read the lesson and get it all down. This epidemic is going to be around for a long time to come. You can enjoy your sexuality, protect yourself and skip a lot of unnecessary worrying by following the guidelines consistently.

This time out you have no cause for concern.

Cheers,
Andy Velez
