Any true New South Welshman or woman pays no attention to that ridiculous activity known in the lesser states as Australian Rules Football.

Too true Matty, but I'm prepared to jump on board when us New South Welshmen have the opportunity to remind the rest of Australia who really runs this country. Fair enough, we hadn't won since 1933 (when we were a Melbourne based team) until 2005, but now we will make it 2 in a row.

We can't let a few hick miners from the back of beyond take boasting rights. Go Swans.

Cheer, Cheer the Red and the White
Honour the name by day and by night
Lift that noble banner high
Shake down the thunder from the sky
Whether the odds be great or small
Swans will go in and win over all
While her loyal sons are marching
Onwards to victory

This weekend will put an end to all that..that will be the Swans.."Swan song"... ;)..at the end of the game they will be singing:

We're the Eagles, the West Coast Eagles
And we're here to show you why
We're the big birds, kings of the big game
We're the Eagles, we're flying high

As Sandgropers we stand united....ok, so there is only two of us..but we are strong and will stand our ground :D..and you can see by the photo (I hope) that we are so much more refined.

I know absolutely nothing of the sport other than that it exists.

I don't care who wins.  I just want to be the towel boy after the game.

Australian Rules Football is a ridiculous passtime engaged in by the inhabitants of the less civilised states of Australia. It is played by sissies, women and light beer drinkers.

The Official Code of New South Wales (The Only Bit of Australia That Matters) is Rugby League.

The Wiggles haven't got a hope in hell, Jen and Jan.

For the record, these two teams have become great rivals in the last few years. A total of 11 points separates them over their last 4 games.

In 2006, the results have been one win a piece. The qualifying final played at Subiaco (Wiggles home ground): WC 12-12-84 lost to the Swans 13-7-85. Rd 15 also at Subiaco: WC 9-13-67 defeated the Swans 9-11-65.
In 2005, Grand Final (played in neutral Victoria). Swans 8-10-58 defeated WC 7-12-54, Qualifying final (at Subi): WC 10-9-69  defeated Swans 10-5-65.

It doesn't get any closer than this in AFL footy.

C'arn the Swans.

Well, count me in as one of the sissies who likes Aussie footie!

I  watch it whenever I find it on one of the sports channels. I abhor American football, too slow, makes no sense and the guys are tubby and out of shape.

Now, those delightful footie players in those wonderful shorts, OOOOOH !

So, in deference to the ladies, I will just say

GO EAGLES!

HUGS (and drools)

Well, isn't this just great! You have no idea how pissed I am.
When the mens cup was splashed all over creation, I immediately fell in love with this game. I actually found myself yelling at the TV, and telling off the refs. It was great. Immediately following the cup, my cable provider dangled this new package before me, that promised to show all of the footy games for the upcoming year for an exhorbitant amount of money!!! Of course, I couldn't afford it. I got to see a couple of the womens games, and really enjoyed those too, as the womens frames are lighter, and the game is even more fast paced than the mens. I knew the womens cup was coming up...but do you think it was shown? Noooooooooo.
I am lucky to catch a footy game once a month, and that is an iffy situation at best.

  ~sigh~ :'(

stephen.......yep, it sure is our turn to win. 1 point will do just nicely... ;D

Lisa.......I think you're talking about soccer. They had the world cup recently. You're right it's huge. They have the largest following of any of the football codes. We all went quite soccer mad here when we got into the finals ( australia) My god, even the 2 sides of the country got together on that one.
We're talking Australian rules football here. A very local thing. If you get a chance have a look at a game...it's a lot rougher than soccer and the boys wear gr-r-reat short, shorts. ;)

Mark.....my gorgeous mate. Jan and I love you. I'm glad you like our game. Some people who live over the border north of Victoria like some other game, equally as confusing as American football. They can't even decide on one lot of rules and have two different games that look the same. League? Union? Who knows?  ;D
It's all rugby to me....... :D :D :D

So on Saturday the showdown will happen..........Go the mighty Eagles!.....Eagles!.....Eagles!.....

love to you all,
jen

True ladies, if the game goes the way of the last 4 it is the Eagles turn to win. Whoever does win, I have a feeling that it is going to be a nail biter. I have arranged for my mates to come to mine and watch the game. I have one friend who is a sandgroper and consequently a Weazle fan who I am still deciding on whether or not to invite.

Today, I actually don't care who wins. I've gone undetectable for the first time in 2 years, and am just so happy to be alive  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Steve, that is fantastic news. Now even I don't care who wins....... :o ;D

You have to invite the Sandgroper into your lounge on Saturday......will make for a great afternoon of yelling, cussing, swearing even, booing and that's just at the umpires.....lol

Love the photos by the way........apart from the fact that it looks like somebody sabotaged my Jan's group one and substituted the Bombers.....hmmmmm! Maybe I need to change my specs.
Hopefully, I've attached a couple of soaring Eagles

Celebrate your good news in style, mate.

lotsa love Jen   xxxxxxxx

Thanks Jan and Jen,
Am about to have a drink to celebrate.
I had to do a double take on Jan's pic too, but I think it is the Eagles in that terrible jersey they were a few years back with the orange etc in it. Some stupid marketing man's idea I bet. I'm so glad they went back to the traditional blue and gold.
The guy I sit next to at work is a Swans season ticket holder. He flew down for the game today. The Victorians at Melbourne airport must have been having a laugh as they put the luggage from the incoming Sydney and Perth flights onto the same carousel just to stir things up a bit.
Bring on Saturday arvo, I say.
Stephen

Didn't have a clue what Jen was talking about when this post first went up, (still don't actually!), but I'm so for whatever sport these guys play.

Yep!  Count me in!   ::)

So I'm throwing my support behind. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Wow Jen, Jan and Rocky,

What a great game. That last quarter nearly killed me. It was so exciting.
I'm gutted, but you guys deserved to win Jen. Cogratulations.
As usual, these two teams put on an epic struggle. The West Coast Eagles won by a point this time around, 12-13-85 to the Swans 12-12-84.

I've never given a damn who wins, only that I get to be in the middle of a good scrum on a hot day........   High School memories....  Oh the gift of Rugby.

Thanks for the fun thread Jen, and the rest of you.  The eye candy isn't bad either.

Hi Steve

Unfortunately they don't show the games here in NZ, but that would have been my kind of game, I love to see a close game, keeps them fighting to the bitter end..really does get the adrenaline going,...Well done the Eagles....nice mark by Dean Cox

Jen has gone away for the weekend..but I'm sure she will be back to gloat on Monday..(but only a little bit.. :D)

Glad you enjoyed the game with your mates.
