Starting meds in a month. Doc recommends these... Any advice?
« on: January 16, 2008, 08:30:14 pm »
So my doc has recommend I start meds in the next month. After 5 and half years not on meds it is time to start. My Tcells are 271 and did not go up as we hoped. Overall percentage is 23percent. I have the k103 mutation so I cannot take any of the class NNRTIs. Have never been on hiv drugs. So she has said this to be my first line approach. Anyone else on this regimen or taking these drugs? How has it been for you? Side effects?
Epzicom- 1 tab
Reyataz- 300-mg 1 tab
Norvir-( as booster to Reyataz)- 1 tab

I was also just given the results from my last blood work today with a genotype/hypersensitivity test done to make sure I can take Epzicom which contains Ziagen in it and I was shown to be a good canidate.
I will begin these drugs after my vacation that I have planned to mexico in late Febuary. Any feedback from others on the tolerance and side effects would be helpful even though I know it affects everyone different on meds. Also I might ad that she does know about the new release of TMC 125 Etravirine and that it could be good for me since I have the k103 mutation and I could potentially start on it, but she said that she'd rather wait to use it as a second drug therapy after my first regimen stops working and after it has been out for awhile and more is known about it as well as the possibility being it may only be approved for people who have been on other regimens before. Have a great day.

Hello J,

The combo you mention here was one of the combos that was part of the study I'm in.  (not the one I ended up being on).  But I did lots of reading before starting my meds and I would have been very comfortable with the set you mention. I was lucky in that I had no major mutations so I could start on about anything.  I ended up starting on sustiva and epzicom.  We had to make a change though and now I'm on sustiva, epivir, and videx EC.  It is my understanding that the combo you mention is generally very well tolerated and shows good results.

Best of luck and enjoy your vacation!
