As stated, have been on Kivexa and Sustiva (generics now) for 15+ years.  After asking doc if there is something that can to alleviate belly bloat that is finally taking its toll, he said there is currently a study in his office for Isentriss only.  He said it is generally well tolerated with minimal to no side effects and that it should stop any further abdominal issues.  He also said it MAY reduce some abdominal fat (I have been Dx with fatty liver several years ago).

Have been on meds for 22 years and stable/undetectable.  I dread the thought of adjusting to new meds again and any potential issues (esp. GI).  About 4 years ago he did have me try Tivacay but it only lasted 2 weeks due to severe neurological issues and I demanded to go back on  my old treatment.  That sort of wigged me out for trying out more 'new' drugs.  My only other issue is PN and I have been on Oxy for approx the same amount of time as the 'cocktail'.

However, I have gotten to the point that I am miserable with being bloated all time.

Just looking for anyone with personal experiences.  I'm in Canada, so options available in the US are not necessarily available to me.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there

Sorry you are having trouble with your meds, I have been on both kivexa and Isentress, both at different times, I was taking 3 other drugs with the Isentress but came off that combo because of liver problems, but to be fair we were not sure what one was causing the damage.

If you and your Doc feel happy about taking Isentriss then I see no harm in trying it, but please be aware of the side effects.

Sorry I have no words of wisdom but wish you well in your decisions.

Hugs
Jan

I'd be quite worried about going onto isentress monotherapy.

Recent studies using dolutegravir, another integrase inhibitor, as a monotherapy have been discontinued due to treatments failure.
Dolutegravir has generally been shown to have a higher resistance profile than Isentress and yet it fails on a consistent basisif used as a monotherapy.
I can't understand why your doctor wants to play guinea pig with you on a therapy that is highly likely to fail.
