Welcome to Do I Have HIV?

Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

Hiv test accuracy

Hi
i used to.take some steriod test400 I never shared needles but I shared the vial.
the guy I shared the vial with him said that he injects two needles in his two shoulder every week.
Also he said that he never use the same needle when he withdraw from the vial.
but maybe he is lieing.
so I did an eia hiv test after 6weeks and it was not reactive
also after 10.5 weeks I did another hic eia.1/0/2 test and it was not reactive.

I will do a final test now after 92 days .  But I am scared and anxiety is killing me.
can someone expert help.me!  :-[

You do not have HIV, nor did you have a risk for the virus.

HIV is only shared through needle use when contaminated blood is drawn up into a hollow bore needle, which protects it temporarily from the environment - then is instantly injected into YOUR body. A needle using the same vial does not provide that protection, and does not present any risk at all for HIV.

You had absolutely no risk.

Dispite the risk ... Is the standard hiv test acurate after 10 weeks.

The standard HIV test is accurate as a screening tool within the window periods in which you used it and you can trust JK's advice , you didn't have a risk and you do not have HIV .

what do you mean is it considered accurate after 10 weeks or not
i now i am silly but i just  got some mental problem because of anxiety especially that some says 3 months some says 8 weeks some ........

i know you will tell me you where not at risk,,,  but i just want to know about the accuracy of the test i did,,,,,

Lion,

The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days. A six week negative is highly unlikely to change, but must be confirmed at the three month point - when there has been a risk. You did NOT have a risk.

Unless you shared a needle with this guy immediately after he used it, then you're worrying about hiv for no good reason.

HOWEVER...

Hep C is a whole other ballgame. Hep C is MUCH more robust than hiv and unlike hiv, it can remain viable and able to infect when it is outside the body. Sharing any injecting equipment, including drug vials (or spoons and filters as is often the case with recreational injectable drugs) can transmit hep C. You would be wise to test for hep C.

But hiv? You weren't at risk. You are conclusively hiv negative.
