I am really bored with /tired of these shows. Yes, I know the people they catch are doing "awful things"......but I don't agree with making sting operations into a spectator sport. It's just ludicrous.

I understand what Alan is saying, but I also have to confess that it is funny when they start trying to water down what their intentions were. It's always something like...

Oh God, I remember that one! And the guy who showed up the next day at a McDonalds for some underage poon after being filmed in the house!

They actually did that one in Fairfax county... about 15-20 miles from where my parents live.

Alan, I'm one that is totally for it. Do whatever it takes to catch them. Let others that are doing it see what will happen WHEN they get caught. They wreck children's lives and whatever we do to them can not possibly make up for what they do to children. My neighbor that lived back of me, was sentenced to 15- life for molesting his 8 yr old neice by marriage. He sets in a wing of the prison away from the population to protect his life.

Oh yes, I totally agree with catching them and punishing them. It just doesn't make for a TV show that I enjoy watching.

I watch COPS all the time, but I don't like the ones where they have drug or prostitution stings. I know they are cleaning up the neighborhoods, but again, I just don't like to watch it. Maybe it stems back to me being caught in a sting operation back in the early 80's, when I lived in Oklahoma. Undercover officers were inside a gay bar, soliciting....then, when you walked outside with them, they put the cuffs on you. That cost me $500 and community service, and I was INSIDE a gay bar at the time. I know it's a totally different thing than the pedophiles on this show, but at the same time, I just don't enjoy watching it.

These predators definitely need to be stopped, and I hope the show is accomplishing the goal of doing that.

I agree with you Alan. I don't like sting operations either. Even though these guys deserve to be caught there is something distasteful about turning child endangerment into a spectator sport.

I also confess it hits a little close to home, not in going after underage sex but just being gay and HIV+. Growing up in the South I was always worried about entrapment, even in gay bars. I can envision myself chatting with some guy online, going to his house and finding cops and a camera crew. Then a sanctimonious news reporter reads off a transcript of our chat: "So you said you want to, and I quote, 'F**k your tight ass raw all night long'. So you admit you were coming over here to have unprotected sex knowing that you're HIV+, knowing that you could infect someone with a horrible fatal disease. Some people would say you're a monster. How do you respond to that?"

That is easy, I would never put myself in a compromising position like that. I would never go to anyone's home to meet them for sex, if I've never met them in person and I don't date kids. Even if I didn't have AIDS I wouldn't do it.

First let me say that I think everything possible should be done to protect children from predators. However, I have problems with these type tactics. First I know it isn't entrapment but boy I just feel funny about how the guys are led on. But what is even more disturbing is the fact that the police use an outside watchdog group to do the work. This group isn't subjected to the same rules and such as the police. So the police are able to get evidence that was gathered in what could be questionable ways without paying the group because NBC has done that.

Also don't these idiots ever watch TV and know about stings. Why take the risk of getting caught. (of course I am not one to talk since i ended up here by not worrying about the risk)

I doubt these guys have to be LED ON too much. The "victims" clearly state their ages mutiple times. If I was talking to someone who was turning me on left and right and they told me they were 13, first I'd puke then I would stop talking. These guys have EVERY chance to discontinue a conversation with these "girls/boys". Not to mention some of these douchebags drive HOURS to get there. Hell I wont drive across town for poonany much less across state lines or county lines!!!!

If they believe that the girl was lying to them about her age or whatever or that it was "fantasy" then why show up. I sure wouldnt. I am all for fantasy time and have the wifey dress up ala school girl every once in a while with the pig tails and what not but damn, these guys are not looking for that!

So I say keep it up, put it on tv for 2 reasons. 1-the ratings and money pays the bills and 2-it deters others from doing it hopefully!

And yes it is strange how many profess god to Mr. Hansen when they finally get caught! Can't trust those religious whackos I tell you!

In a recent bust, one of these guys stated that he knew who they (host and camera crew) were since he actually watched the program.
I say use any method that works to catch 'em. Also, when they are doing time, they shouldn't be protected from general prison population either.
I catch it now and again if I'm flipping through channels or if it happens to come on the channel I am already watching. Digusting stuff to go out of my way to watch, as entertainment.

While pedophilia is vile and all should be done to prevent it from happening, we must be careful not to go down a slippery slope where government agencies use outside resources to investigate potential crimes. These agencies don't have to follow the same laws as government agencies. That is where my biggest problem lies in the way the sting is done.

There have been so many of these shows, are we watching them now to stop predators or for the enjoyment of seeing these crackpots get caught.

I have 2 thoughts on this show first one is you know your doomed when little miss 13 year old offers a kool aid- and secondly lets all have a reality check,!
First off I have always been into older guys but what I learned is this has been going on for centuries. Just think where would Elvis or Jerry Lee Lewis be if this was the mentality in the 60's?
Pricilla was 12 when he started dating her, and Jerry Lee married his 13 year old cousin! In fact it wasn't till just a year ago that Kansas (I think) was forced to change their marriage laws.

Now I am not saying it is right but since this country uses the Bible as it's moral compass one need not look any further, it is ripe with child abuse- in fact if I remember correctly god knocked mary up at 13!
Then the christians argue that people didn't live that long back then so it was okay, yet the same christians explain that Moses, and all those other old men lived so long because they were genetically closer to Adam- a sly way to advocate incest.Which is why I gues so many Republiicans get busted for this crime.The other major religions also have positive slants on this new crime de jour.
I am waiting for the news one day someone takes Hanson down.

Btw there is way more human trafficing today the the entire time of the Atlantic slave trade!
