Viagra, Levitra and HIV Meds
« on: December 02, 2007, 05:59:29 pm »

So I have ADDP and also COBRA (from my old job).

ADDP is an open formulary and they will cover levitra or viagra, but they tell me in my case they wont cover viagra because it is contra-indicated with norvir and they wont cover levitra because its contra-indicated with reyataz.

but my cobra insurance will cover all these meds. unfortunately that means i'd have a $25 co-pay.

whats up with that?

Don't you mean ADAP?  They deny it because those meds do contradict with the HIV meds you take. It is for your own good. Your private insurance doesn't care what the DR prescribes as long as you have a valid R and the insurance co. will pay you just pay your co-pay. It is your responsibility to know what drugs you should not take with other drugs. It mystifies me how you would know to take the Levitra or Viagra though when you have said you can not remember to take your HIV meds.

I don't know the official answer, I can only guess the cobra folks might  not be as meticulous in double checking or triple checking contraindications. Shoot, at least the A in ADDP stands for AIDS

OK then ADDP. I was reading back and you said "adap" back in May so that's what I thought you meant. You asked this question then too. Just fill it with the private insurance if you want the drugs.
