drowsing
« on: June 23, 2009, 06:55:18 am »
My tax attorney filed my taxes today, electronically, pending the cash transaction he requested - making me dubious of his motives and mildly curious of his work practices.  As I walked out the door, he asked me if I knew of anyone with an extra room available for rental over the next couple of months.  I told him I would ask at work, and though I did, I felt like I was hiding something dirty, something secret.  So now I lay here in bed listening to celestial sounds on the television cd selection, my dvr empty of any outstanding stories to steal my attention.   I'm thinking of my move in a couple days.

My move isn't that remarkable - it is just across town.  Just far enough to be inconvenient.  I guess any move, though, is inconvenient.  I remember living in California, where moving was as simple as renting a U-Haul and going to the local hardware store to pick up a couple of mexicans for the day.  A six-pack of beer, a hundred dollars each, and a full day of labor (not in that order, of course) was all that was needed, and not even a sweat on my part.  Why is it that (sans beer) under the same conditions, my relatives aren't nearly ever as reliable?  I guess that's just part of the personal hellish-torment that is my life.

Things have been getting better.  The staph infection which refused to heal over the last month (CA-MRSA - confirmed by the Genesis Hospital ER) has scabbed over, and now coughs bloody phlegm through a little hole it has maintained since I first coaxed it out of my body.  I've entertained the idea of naming it, actually...  Flo was the name I finally decided to settle on, should it continue much longer...  I've purchased it many gifts... gauze, antibiotics, ace bandages, water-proof bandaids, peroxide, alcohol...  who needs a child, really?

Work has gotten better.  That is, at least since the anti-depression meds have helped me to find an indifference to the world of issues I've seemingly created for myself.  A trip to Chicago recently to see an old roommate resulted in the totalling of my car - from driving over the median that I didn't see because I was too tired to notice - I was grateful to have had insurance.  And by grateful, I mean that I was pleased to discover that they totalled out my car for only a quarter of it's worth - barely denting the loan I have taken out on it. Now, not only is my car totaled (but don't worry, boys, it's still driveable) but my new insurance company has increased my rate 200%...   Oh yes...  Better living through pharmaceuticals, I always say.

And these are the boots that have trampled me, but I'm still alive... reaching for the sun, through the shit, through the rocks, the dirt, coming all the way up, through the most inconvenient crack in the parking lot of life, baby...  And people say to me, as they see me at work, "how are you?", not expecting me to say, "I'm alive, damn it!", as they stumble at my response.  "Well that's good," they respond, shocked.  I then tell them, "You know, though, I could REALLY use the sleep."

So, I lay here, worried about my move, and my tax attorney... how will he survive?  and where the hell am I gonna find any goddamn mexicans that can be bought for a hundred a day and a six-pack of beer?  I'll worry about it tomorrow... but only if I run out of meds before then.  Now, it is time to sleep.

Howdy Stray. Good to see you in good spirits or just really cynical. Though the story of your life has always seemed a bit colorful to me. And you always seem to be moving, isn't this like the 3rd of 4th move? Or am I getting you confused with someone else? I am about to move soon but there aren't any Mexicans over this way. A few crackheads, here and there. And you can hire them for cheap, you just have to keep an eye on your things..... ;D
