Changing regimine from Truvada/Viramune to Genvoya
« on: January 12, 2017, 11:59:46 am »
Hi everyone, my doctor suggested I change from my current regimen of Truvada/Viramune for 8 years to the one pill per day - Genvoya.  I was wondering if I should expect any side effects.   I was waiting to start tomorrow which is Friday so any symptoms wouldn't be too problematic over my work week.
My questions are -
What are some of the symptoms you have experienced?
Do these symptoms subside after a time period?
Is there anyone that hasn't had any side effects at all?
I know I wont know until I begin the therapy; however, id like to go in more prepared.
Thanks everyone!

Hi

Welcome to the forum, glad to hear you are doing okay.

You should grow and extra head and set of arms in the first 48 hours  ;)

Look other than a few days perhaps of you body adjusting you should not be expecting any problems at all when you do switch to Genvoya.  Now if you look around you will also find someone who does have a problem, same can be said for any household medication even asprin, millions take it daily a few have problems.

Anyhow wish you well and there are plenty of people taking Genvoya who will be sure to comment later. If you do have any unexpected problems make sure to let your doc know.

Take it easy ;)

Jim

Hey,
Since you've been on Truvada, you may not have any side effects.  I had nausea and vomiting for the first week of Stribild.  It was completely gone after two weeks.  I wasn't on anything before.  It may be easier for you.
I also think not thinking about it helps. I believe that too often people worry side effects into existence.

Hello.  In my case, Genvoya elevated my cholesterol considerably. It should be watched closely. Cobicistat as the boosting agent in the formula is known for cholesterol issues.

Truvada/Isentress - no elevated cholesterol, normal range
Stribild - increased cholesterol
Genvoya - further increase in cholesterol
Now on the new version of Truvada (Descovy) and Isentress. Cholesterol normal.

For me, a one a day pill comes with too many other issues.

Well,  Stribild and Genvoya are almost identical.  The only difference is the different formulation of Tenofovir.  So, for you, it may be the other things in the EVG twins and not single tablet regimens
