Title: Worried with Symptoms
Post by: worriediam on May 11, 2009, 05:21:04 pm
Firstly, thank you for setting up such a great forum!! I have read many similar posts but want to get some advice directly on my scenario..I am a man in 40's, 6 weeks ago I had an encounter with a woman I did not know, had just met. Both were pretty drunk. Long story short, she performed oral on me with a condom, just covering the tip only, not sure if at any time it may have slipped off, I think it did not. I used my fingers deeply for a long period of time, had one cut on index finger (got cut about 24 hours before, did not bleed much, couple of drops at the time that it happen, that night it was dry). Could I have been infected through the cut? Or from vaginal fluids to my mouth via touching and kissing breasts? I ejaculated with out a condom with a hand job.
I have been having extreme symptoms for this entire period, especially painful armpits, groin and neck. Which keeps making me worried about HIV.
Had an oral rapid test done at 4 weeks, was negative. Still crazy with worry and sleepless so has blood test at 32 days (HIV 1/2 EIA AB Screen) also negative, all other blood levels of red and White cells were also normal at that time.
Should I be worried and should I get tested again? What is my percentage of risk that I might become HIV positive over the coming weeks?

It doesn't matter if the condom slipped off or not when you were getting a blowjob. No guy has ever been confirmed to have been infected in that manner. It's safe to say you won't make history by becoming the first. As for the fingering and other details, none of that is a risk either. So bottom line? You were not at risk for HIV. Period.

If you are having symptoms that are worrying you that's something to discuss with your doctor. This is definitely NOT an HIV situation.

Cheers.

:) Thank you for your reply, its been a hellish 6 weeks, with little sleep and lots of anxiety!!!

So definitely no further testing required?? I can continue to have sexual relations with my life partner, with no risk to her?

Is the mind so powerful that it can create all the symptoms that are listed for initial stages of HIV? As I read the common symptoms, I seemed to develop all of them except the fever!!

Worrried,

The mind is indeed very powerful. As Andy suggested, if you continue to feel unwell, see a doctor. Whatever is going on has nothing to do with hiv as you didn't have a risk.

You don't have hiv. Your negative test result is not going to change if you go for further testing. You are conclusively hiv negative.

Still keep getting panicked!! Have symptoms and negative thoughts.
I am at NO RISK?
In any case, can my tests be relied upon?
Should I resume sexual relations with no worry at all?
Please answer this, will not ask further questions
Thank you.

Move on. You were already advised by Ann and Andy that you were never at risk.

Feelings are not facts. And those feelings may continue to bother you. But the facts of the situation as you have reported them to us indicate clearly that you have no basis whatsoever to be concerned about risk for HIV. Period. End of story.

Yes, you can have intercourse without being concerned although you should always be using condoms if you are not in a securely monogamous relationship in which both partners have reliably tested negative for HIV together.

Ann/Andy, thank you for your help and support. Despite your reassurances I was killing myself. Last week I went for the expensive RNA test, which picks up the virus at 2-11 days. Got results today and they were, as you had already predicted, negative. Now I can move on...had to go through wasting this money to get back to normal life. Thanks again.

Hopefully you will never have a real risk because of unprotected intercourse. You need to know that the RNA was never designed as a diagnostic test. Because of it's very high sensitivity it can sometimes yield a false positive, but NOT a false negative.

Cheers.
