Election Day
« on: November 05, 2012, 02:59:15 pm »
Post whatever.  Have at it.

I want to say this:  Much as a detest Republican wackos, yahoos, self-righteous, deluded, low information types, Tea Partiers, Christians, racists, American Imperialists, Ayn Randians, Hawks, etc etc....   I wouldn't suppress their votes.

This year has been non-stop incidents of Republicans trying to suppress the Democratic vote.  It's dirty play.  Cowardly, selfish, disrespectful and immoral.  Why don't you run smart candidates with compelling platforms, and elect your leaders fair and square for crissakes!?

Dear Mr. mecch,

are U european?:)

you sound  one to one like the European media. They hate the Republicans to death. Obama would get here 98 percent without any problems.
But it is the choice of the US Americans tomorrow, and we have to accept it.
I will watch the Vote live all night, lets see who will win.

No I grew up in New York in big extended family almost all Democrats.  Now I have two European passports too but really just live here.
Im not sure Europeans all hate Republicans!  There are plenty, PLENTY of strong right parties in Europe and many countries swing right and left over the years.  I know lots of xenophobes here in Switzerland, really old fashioned conservative types.

I don't hate all Republicans, rather just the zealots who can't fight fair.  How about 4 years of anti-American obstructionism in National government because they couldn't accept a socially progressive dem and a half-black one to boot?  They hated Clinton and impeached him!  Obama could have gone after a lot of Republicans for war crimes.  He turned the page.

Republicans need to face the changing mores and changing demographics of the US, or they'll become increasingly nasty, dirty fighters, and bitter as they lose relevancy.

Romney was a disgrace as a candidate.  No intellectual integrity, and supposedly he's not stupid.  This seems like a neanderthal party, these days, bullies, cheaters, liars, con men, hypocrites.

If Romney is REALLY the flip flopping soulless robot he acts like, its scary. If he's not, and rather he is a cynical shrewd successful politician, maybe that's even scarier??

Does it have to be so phony?

he is BOTH and unfortunately having a high IQ does not bring along the ability to have compassion, sense of self, or ablity to relate to others.

I've long thought we should revert back to a 1 party system.  Our election and political campaigns have created a superbowl mentality among the masses.  Too many choose to support their team regardless of the issues.

Our political process can not survive too many more elections like this.  I've seen "more in your face" confrontations than ever before.  Amongst the youngsters (judging by my own young family members' FB posts), it has become chic to espouse your political views loudly.

I've asked most of them simple questions to ascertain their knowledge on our political system; most failed and required no further discussion.  They'll continue to root for their team.
Being honest is not wronging others, continuing the dishonesty is.

I get what you are saying.  But "they say" he was compassionate in his role as some sort of deacon in Mormonism.  But selectively so - follow his and his church's view of things, you got compassion.
I think he has a sense of self, which is noblesse oblige and entitlement. I think he thinks he has a mission to serve and solve problems.  But really nobody asked him to be this leader. He seems to just assume it should be himself.  (The problem for all of us, is that his vision of people and situations is incredibly narrow.)

Looked to me like most people, including most Republicans, felt pretty stuck with him. There was no great affection nor demand for Romney.  He had the most money, and is less kooky and one of the more competent of their front runners.

not a bad idea wolfie.
all for one and one for all!
doubt it will become a reality but...
ideas should matter more than "team against team" mentality.
why is it so difficult for us to at least admit that we can agree on some issues?
sad.

I had a Main Line gal pal in NYC, she and her blueblood friends said "people like us" and "not our kind".

I had a Mayflower stock lover one time, he was hilarious in his insularity. This was the late 80's. He said we didn't need condoms because "people like us" didn't get AIDS.

I could only laugh and remind him that I wasn't "people like him" - just looked that way. That I was "Ritz Thrift Shop". And that anyone got AIDS, I knew a few Yalies with it. He chortled, that Yalies were degenerates and "people like us" applied only to Harvard and Princeton men and maybe Williams.

i'm really nervous about tomorrow night, but i have reason to believe we wont have a decision tomorrow night.   its gonna be 2000 again, i can almost guarantee something is going to happen with Florida.  I love Florida, but for some reason they don't know how to work elections.

Also I feel something is gonna happen in Ohio.  I guess we will see.  I may pass out if Romney wins.  We do not need that flip-flopper for four years,  his snootiness shines thru everytime i see him.

There are several election parties tonight in Geneva Switzerland.

The Democrats Abroad (don't know the group) expect 500+ at their party (location = snore).
The American International Club (their parties = snore) are at the Hotel Crowne Plaza (hotel + location = double snore).

For some reason?  Its because they are crooked.  Thats ok, if Mittins wins there is going to be a protest tonight here in Seattle.  People will take to the streets here.  Now if we could just get the people of Florida to care, must be all that sunshine has numbed the sensibilities, or the oranges.

Since you brought it up . I'm having friends over to watch the election and we are having red meat .
I'm making a pot roast with mashed potatoes and gravy , field peas with snaps with jalapeno cornbread . I'm also stewing baby carrots and green peas so I can make a nest in my mashed potatoes  ... and carrot cake for desert .

So a tad envious if someone can work and cook a gourmet meal in one day.  As obviously you and your quoted millions of home-cooking family people can do....  Or are you trolling me.  Piss off why don't you..... if you are baiting me....  8)

That is excellent.

Michele Bachmann is ahead only by 300 votes right now, there may be a recount.
It would be nice to have her gone.

Edit: never mind, it's over 3000, I should go to sleep.

I guess Miss Marcus made it.

Well it was good Obama took a dramatic pause in his speech to mention "We've got to fix that" about how complicated the voting can be in some places...

What a great day!  I didn't sleep all that much, but I feel nice and warm today.  Surely its relief and optimism.
