Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

Apologies if this has already been covered, I just need some clarification regarding a possible risk of infection.

I recently visited an escort whose HIV status I don't know. We had protected sex but also unprotected oral sex, I gave and received.

Today I visited my local walk in clinic and was offered a blood test (duo) for HIV. Having read these forums subsequent to contact I felt relatively reassured that the contact we had was an extremely low risk. However, today the doctor I saw today heightened my fears. He described the risk as 'relatively low' but clearly felt it necessary to test.

This has left me a little confused. The advice on this forum suggests oral sex is essentially a no risk activity but this clearly wasn't the view of the doctor I saw today. I am now anxiously waiting the results of the test.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

As there have been no reliably documented cases of HIV transmission through giving cunnilingus, I would say that the risk there is essentially zero.

Saliva has over a dozen identified elements that act to inhibit/neutralize HIV and render it impossible to infect. In addition, the fluid one encounters through cunnilingus and fingering are lubricating fluids expressed through the Bartholen Glands, and are no more infectious than tears or sweat (read: not at all).

Obviously, since saliva is not infectious, her performing fellatio on you presents no risk.

Continue to use condoms for penetrative anal and vaginal sex and you will avoid HIV. It really is that simple.
